4.14 COP/JTAG-Interface
Pin Name
Pin
Con
Type
Description
JTAG_TCK
14
X3
IN
JTAG Clock (Schmitt Trigger Input with internal 10kOhm pullup) The (non-reset) behavior of the active TAP and TLM state machines is governed by the TMS value at the TCK rising edge. TDI value is sampled at the TCK rising edge for all shift operations. All TDO non-reset transitions (including impedance) occur at the TCK falling edge. All shift register capture operations occur at the TCK rising edge. All shift register Update operations occur at the TCK falling edge.
JTAG_TDI
9
X3
IN
JTAG Data Input (with internal 10kOhm pullup) Serial test data input can be routed to any IR or DR, as determined by the state of the active TAP state machine and the contents of the active IR. TDI is sampled at the TCK rising edge while the active TAP state machine is in either the Shift-IR or Shift-DR state.
JTAG_TDO
8
X3
OUT [8mA]
JTAG Data Output TDO when connected to TDI (of another device), TDO switches at the TCK falling edge. TDO is driven while the TLM state machine is in the Shift-IR or Shift-DR states only; it is tri-stated in all other TAP states. Except, for the first half clock after exiting the shift state, because of its falling edge timing.
JTAG_TMS
7
X3
IN
JTAG Mode Select (with internal 10kOhm pullup) TAP state machine control, including TLM. The state of TMS at rising edges of TCK uniquely determines the state sequence of the TLM and the active TAP state machines. Inactive TAPs ignore TMS completely.
JTAG_TRST#
11
X3
IN
JTAG Reset (Active Low with internal Pull-up) When asserted, any on-going JTAG operation is immediately aborted. All TAP state machines, including the TLM, immediately enter the Test-Logic-Reset state. Other JTAG input signals (TCK, TMS, and TDI) have no effect while TRST is asserted. TDO is immediately tri-stated.

4.17 Programmable I/O Pins
The SC2x3 provides 40 programmable I/O pins. Each PIO can be programmed with the attributes function (enabled/disabled) and direction (input/output). PIOs that programmed as output can drive 4mA (see chapter
8.2.4). During and after reset, all PIO pins are high impedance by default (except PIO0..PIO3, see chapter 6.2.2 Usage of PIO0..PIO3 in consideration of UART1 (Bootloader interface)).
The PIO pins cannot be enabled individually at all, e.g. if UART1 is used, PIO2 can’t be enabled as PIO
without disabling UART1. For more details see chapter 5 Mutal Exclusive Functions.

6.2 Programmable Serial Controllers
The SC2x3 supports six PSCs (Programmable Serial Controllers). Each can be configured to operate in different modes. PSCs support both synchronous and asynchronous protocols. They are used to interface, modems, SPI or CAN.
6.2.1 UARTs
The SC2x3 provides six asynchronous serial ports through the PSCs. These ports provide full-duplex, bidirectional data transfer using several industry-standard communications protocols.
The asynchronous serial ports support the following features:
Full-duplex operation 512 byte FIFO 7-bit or 8-bit data transfers Odd, even, mark, space, no parity or multidrop mode One or two stop bits Long or short break character recognition Error detection
- Parity errors
- Framing errors
- Overrun errors
- Break character recognition
Hardware handshaking with the following selectable control signals:
- Clear-to-send (CTS)
- Ready-to-send (RTS)
- Data Carrier Detect (DCD)
Separate maskable interrupts for each port Independent baud rate generators Maximum baud rate of 4.125 MBits/s Double-buffered transmit and receive

6.2.2 Usage of PIO0..PIO3 in consideration of UART1 (Bootloader interface)
The RTOS version can be updated via UART1 and the Ethernet interface. In some rare cases a system crash can corrupt the RTOS image on the flash disk. If the RTOS is damaged
and doesn’t boot anymore, a update through Ethernet will not work. Without a working RTOS it can only be
repaired by programming it through the serial bootloader interface on UART1. For this reason the pre-installed bootloader observes UART1_TXD and UART1_RXD to recognize a RTOS update via the program Chiptool. To do this, the bootloader initializes UART1 and the corresponding pins will be active while booting and not high impedance! This has to be considered, if PIO0..PIO3 is used. The following figure shows a block diagram of the internal schematic of the SC2x3.

6.2.3 I²C
The I²C bus is a popular serial, two-wire interface used in many systems because of its low overhead. Capable of 100 kHz operation, each device connected to the bus is software addressable by a unique address, with a simple master/slave protocol.
The I²C bus consists of two wires, serial data (SDA), and a serial clock (SCL), which carry information between the devices connected to the bus. This two-wire interface minimizes interconnections, so integrated circuits have fewer pins, and the number of traces required on printed circuit boards is reduced.
The number of devices connected to the same bus is limited only by a maximum bus capacitance of 400 pF. Both the SDA and SCL lines are bidirectional, connected to a positive supply voltage via a 2.2k pull-up resistor. When the bus is free, both lines are HIGH. The output stages of devices connected to the bus must have an open-drain or open-collector to perform the wired-AND function.
Each device on the bus has a unique address and can operate as either a transmitter or receiver. In addition, devices can also be configured as masters or slaves.
A master is the device that initiates a data transfer on the bus and generates the clock signals to permit
that transfer.
Any other device that is being addressed is considered a slave.
The I²C protocol defines an arbitration procedure to ensure that if more than one master simultaneously tries to control the bus, only one is allowed to do so and the message is not corrupted. The SC2x3 supports two I²C channels. Both master and slave interfaces can be controlled directly by the processor. The arbitration and clock synchronization procedures defined in the I²C specification are supported by the SC2x3 I²C controller. The following features are provided:
Master or slave operation Multimaster operation Software selectable acknowledge bit Arbitration-lost interrupt with automatic mode switching from master to slave Calling address identification interrupt with automatic mode switching from master to slave START and STOP signal generation/detection Repeated START signal generation Acknowledge bit generation/detection Bus busy detection more than 100 kHz operation Programmable Glitch Filter
Note: On the I2C2 bus interface there are some internal devices present. So the following addresses can not be used externally: 0xA0, 0x90.

6.2.4 USB
The SC2x3 supports two USB channels. The USB Controller implements the USB Host Controller/Root Hub in compliance with the USB1.1 specification. The user may choose to have either one or two USB ports on the root hub, each of which can interface to an off-chip USB transceiver. The Host Controller supports the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) standard. The interface has an integrated DMA controller that transfers packet data to and from memory. The DMA controller facilitates USB endpoint data transfer efficiently, while limiting microprocessor involvement.
6.2.5 SPI
SPI is a high-speed synchronous serial input/output (I/O) port that allows a serial bit stream of programmed length (one to eight bits) to be shifted into and out of the device at a programmable bit-transfer rate.
SPI is an industry-standard communications interface that does not have specifications or a standards organizing group. As a result, there are no licensing requirements. Because of its simplicity, SPI is commonly used in embedded systems. Many semiconductor manufacturers sell a variety of sensor, conversion, and control devices that use SPI.
The SPI module allows full-duplex, synchronous, serial communication between the SC2x3 and peripheral devices. The clock polarity, clock phase, SS (Slave Select) polarity, clock frequency in master mode, and the number of bits to be transferred are software programmable up to 66MHz. SPI supports multiple slaves on a single 3-wire bus by using separate Slave Select signals to enable the desired slave.

6.2.6 CAN
The SC2x3 contains two complete CAN 2.0B controllers, CAN1 and CAN2. Each controller supplies two signal pins, CAN Receive (CANRXD) and CAN Transmit (CANTXD). These signals can be connected to a CAN transceiver.
The CAN controllers can be accessed through the RTOS API functions. In addition to the Run mode, the controllers can be used in Loop Back mode or Passive mode. In Loop Back mode both CAN channels are internally connected with themselves. This can be useful for software testing. In Passive mode the controllers are only listening. The output is held recessively. The Run mode is the normal operating mode. Various baud rates are provided. The following table shows the most common possible baud rates. For more information to provided baud rates see RTOS API documentation.
50 KBit/s
125 KBit/s

Table 6-3: Provided CAN baud rates
The basic features of the CAN controllers are as follows:
Implementation of the CAN protocol - Version 2.0A/B
- Standard and extended data frames
- 0 - 8 bytes data length
- Programmable bit rate up to 1 Mbps
- Support for remote frames
- 4 receive buffers with FIFO storage scheme
3 transmit buffers with internal prioritization using a ―local priority‖ concept Flexible maskable identifier filter supports two full size extended identifier filters (two 32-bit) or four 16-bit
filters or eight 8-bit filters
Programmable loop back mode supports self-test operation Programmable listen-only mode for monitoring of CAN bus Separate signalling and interrupt capabilities for all CAN receiver and transmitter error states (Warning,

6.3 Timers
Seven General-Purpose Timer (GPT) pins are configurable for:
Input Capture Output Compare Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Output Simple GPIO Internal CPU timer
The timer modules run off the internal IP bus clock. Each Timer is associated to a single I/O pin. Each Timer has a 16-bit prescaler and 16-bit counter, thus achieving a 32-bit range (but only 16-bit resolution).
6.4 MII Interface
The SC2x3 provides an Fast Ethernet controller. The main function of the MII interface is to provide a communication path between the internal MAC and an external PHY. The Ethernet Controller supports a 100 Mbps IEEE 802.3 MII MAC-PHY interface. It is full duplex and provides a programmable maximum frame length and retransmission from the Tx FIFO following a collision.
6.5 Reset
The Reset-Logic of the module has the following functions:
Monitoring the voltage used on the module (3.3V, 1.8V, 1.5V) External Reset-Input Battery back up function for SRAM (Battery supply not on the module) Chip-Select-Gating for battary powered SRAM Reset-Status-Display through a red LED
The SC2x3 has these four reset pins:
RESIN# - Master Reset Input
The Master Reset Input performs the power-on reset. This resets the whole module.
PORRESET# - Power-on Reset
The power-on reset is an output, wich indicates the master/power-on reset. It forces HRESET# and SRESET# active.
HRESET# - Hard Reset
The hard reset is a bidrectional signal with a Schmitt-Trigger input and open drain pullup including an internal resistor. It can be asserted by an external source or it can be asserted by the internal reset logic of the SC2x3. HRESET# forces SRESET active.
SRESET# - Software Reset
The soft reset is a bidrectional signal with a Schmitt-Trigger input and open drain pullup including an internal resistor. It can be asserted by an external source or it can be asserted by the internal reset logic of the SC2x3.

7.1 Watchdog
The SC2x3 provides a true watchdog timer function. The watchdog can be used to regain control of the system when software fails to respond as expected. The watchdog is active after reset. The watchdog timeout period is about 800 ms. The mode can be set to trigger the watchdog by the user program or by the CHIP-RTOS (default). In CHIP-RTOS mode, the CHIP-RTOS performs the watchdog strobing provided that the system's timer interrupt is allowed to execute. Beware that excessive interrupt masking periods can lead to system resets.
