21. Remove seat. Remove the two passenger grab rails on each side of the seat. Lift the seat from the rear and then move the seat toward the rear of the bike to disengage the front catch.
22. Remove the left side cover (battery cover). This panel is held in place by rubber grommets. Simply pull the panel starting at the front.
Caution:
23. Pull the panel as evenly as possible. Excessive angles can break the fingers off the back of the panel.
24. Remove the left chrome engine cover. This panel is held in place by rubber grommets. Pop the panel at the bottom, and then the side towards the rear of the bike. Then slide the panel towards the rear of the bike to disengage the front catch.
Shop Tip:
25. The front grommet is famous for popping out when this panel is removed. Check the panel to see if the grommet is still in place. You can also lightly spray the grommets with silicone to allow them to pop off better in the future and reduce the risk of loss.
26. Remove the left fairing trim strip. This is the strip to the left of the left fairing pocket. This is held in place by tabs on the back of the strip. Start at the bottom of the strip. Gently push the strip to the side, and then in a slight rocking motion, disengage the tab. Repeat the process until all the tabs are disengaged and the strip has been
removed.
Shop Tip:
27. The trim strips have a tab at the top. That is the tab you start with when reinstalling the strip. The strips are also marked on the back with an R or an L if you forget what side it came from.
28. Remove the left fairing pocket. Open the pocket. Using a small tipped tool, press in the center of the fastener in each of the four corners on the pocket. Now pull each of the four fasteners out of the bike. Reset the fastener by holding the flared base and then pressing the pointed tip until the shaft of the fastener pops out beyond the flared base.
29. Remove the headlight adjustment switch panel. This panel is located by your left knee when riding. Remove the allen head fastener. Just below the fastener is a small slot. Using a small tip standard screwdriver, gently push the tool into the slot. Now move the handle of the tool to the left. This will disengage the tab holding the panel in place. Unplug the connecter and remove.
30. Remove the gray dash cover. Pop the speaker grills off. Under each grill, you will find one black pop fastener (slightly different than the fairing pocket design) and one allen head fastener. Remove both on each side. Now lift the cover where it meets the black plastic next to the radio. Once the rear is popped up, you will have to disconnect the plug for the MODE/TRIP buttons. You have to use your

fingernail to lift the tab and pull the two apart. Remove dash cover.
31. Remove fairing speakers.
Shop Tip:
32. Use the longest shaft phillips screwdriver you have. It gives you better leverage and makes it less likely you will damage the speaker. Also, you can use a standard screwdriver to ‘move’ the speaker pod to access the screw that is slightly hidden by the dash.
33. You must now determine the mounting location for the amp. This amp is not waterproof and must be mounted in a dry location with a small amount of air around it for head dissipation. If you do not have the CD Changer, the cubbyhole in the trunk is the best location. The rear of the left saddlebag is your alternative. The harness has been designed for either location. (Fig. 1-3) shows trunk location.
the bike. Thread the harness from inside the trunk or saddlebag to under the seat area. Do not connect to the amp at this time. Refer to (Fig.2-3)
Fig 2-3
35. Connect rear speakers. If you bike does not have rear speakers currently installed, stop now and install them using the manufacturers instructions. Under the seat, behind the large relay block and the silver frame cross brace, you will find several black boots. In the one towards the center, you will find a black 4-pin connector. Unplug this connector and plug in the one from the harness between the two connectors you just unplugged. Refer to (Fig. 3-3)
Fig. 1-3
34. Drill holes only as large as needed to be able to run the harness from the amps mounted location toward the front of

36. Power connections. Locate the supplied fuse holder. If the fuse is in the fuse holder, remove it now. Connect the fuse holder to the positive post on the right side of the battery. Connect the other side of the fuse holder to the large red wire in the amp harness. Connect the large black wire in the amp harness to the bolt that connects the silver frame of the bike to the black saddlebag sub frame just in front of the trunk. Be sure to remove the silver paint off the frame for the best possible ground and to eliminate noise. Refer to (Fig. 1-4) for ground bolt.
Fig. 1-4 Shop Tip:
37. Put a small flat washer on the battery terminal screw. This will stop any wires you have connected to the battery terminal from rotating while tightening the fastener.
Caution:
38. The battery terminal MUST be tight. Failure to do so can cause the bike to shut down when the started button is depressed.
Fig. 3-4
39. Turn on (remote) connection. To the left of the battery is the bikes fuse block. Remove the cover. At the top of the block are two phillips head screws. The top screw turns on when the bikes key is turned on. Connect the blue wire from the harness to the top screw. Refer to (Fig. 2-4)
Fig 2-4
40. Front speaker connection preparation. You will need to drill a hole in the side of the speaker housing to run the wires into. Drill a 3/8” hole in the lower corner of the housing on the side of the housing that faces the gauge cluster. Refer to (Fig. 3-4) and (Fig. 1-5).

41. Using a spring tool, insert the tool inside the hole where the fairing pocket was removed going downward to where the engine cover was removed. Keep the tool as close as possible to the inside of the fairing panel. When you are finished, the top of the tool with the plunger will be visible out of the top of the fairing and the ‘fingers’ on the opposite side of the tool will be visible out of the bottom of the fairing. Refer to (Fig. 2-5)
this location.
43. On the wire harness, there are two sets of unused connectors. These are the front speaker connectors. Run these connectors behind the frame and then towards the spring tool. Grab the wires with the tool by pressing the plunger and grabbing them with the fingers. Once you have a good grip on the wires, slowly pull the tool out upwards.
44. Once you have the wires pulled up, tuck the wires under the edge of the side of the shelter. Pull the wires tight bringing up all extra slack.
45. Run the wires along the right side of the cavity where the fairing pocket sits towards the bottom of the left speaker housing. Refer to (Fig. 3-5)
Fig. 2-5
Shop Tip:
42. It will take you several attempts to get the tool inserted, as there is a large wire bundle and several other items in
Fig 3-5
Page 6

46. Take the shorter of the two remaining leads and run in into the hole you created earlier.
47. Take the last remaining lead and run it under the gauge cluster to the right speaker housing. Using wire ties, attach the harness to the black metal bar that is under the gauge cluster. Run the wire thru the hole you created earlier.
48. Inside each speaker housing you will find the connectors that were previously connected to the speakers. Connect the male blade connectors from the amps wiring harness to these connectors. Note that one connector is smaller than the other. Connect your new speakers to the harness. Refer to (Fig. 1-6)
Fig. 1-6
Shop Tip:
Make sure the speaker connectors on the wire harness are securely attached to the terminals of the Bazooka speakers. You may need to take a pair of needle nose pliers and crimp the female connector on the harness onto the speaker spade to insure you have a good connection that will not loosen up over time. You can also use finger nail polish or blue lock tight to further secure this connection.
Shop Tip:
49. When you insert the speakers for installation, rotate the speaker terminals towards the gauge cluster. If pointed down, they can short out against the mounting bolt and shut down the audio system. Only three of the speaker fasteners are necessary to hold the speaker in place. You can omit the fastener that is hidden under the dash face.
50. Connect the wires to the amp. Connect the large red wire to
+12V. Connect the large black wire to GND. Plug the large multi-wire connector into the side of the amp. Turn the gain control on the amp to MIN setting. Mount the amp keeping in mind you will need to access the gain control.
51. Insert the fuse into the fuse holder. A spark is normal when it is connected.
52. Turn key on. Select audio source. Set the volume on 23-24. Adjust the gain until distortion is heard. In most systems, there will be no distortion and the gain control will be at or close to MAX.
