Where accurate taps and tap drivers
are used, a fit between class 3 and 4

machines. This precision is possible be
cause of (1) lead screw tap driving, a
principle that insures proper thread

use of a magnetic disc brake mounted
on the spindle drive) causes the motor

of the tapping cycle.

means of a graduated post with lock
nuts and a stop bracket, mounted on
the quill holder at the side of the head
of the combination drilling and tapping
machine.
Squareness of table and spindle is
assured by extra heavy ways scraped to
close dimensions.

matically on these BAUSH machines
in one tapping operation — without
rough tapping.
Faster tapping work output with less
rejections is possible because of the
electric counting switch mentioned. This
switch not only governs the cycle of the
tapping spindle, causing it to stop posi
tively at a pre-determined depth after
the thread cutting has been completed
but also reverses the motion automati
cally, causing the tap to withdraw and
stop at the starting position.
Setting of this counting switch for
correct tapping depth is simplified
through the use of a numerical chart
located on the side of
the tapping head.
Motor start and stop buttons are
placed conveniently on the front of the
tapping head just below the counting
switch. The stop button is used in
drilling and countersinking, and also
enables the operator to stop and reverse
the motor at any point of tap travel
in case of emergency.
Speed changes are made by simply
turning a combination speed indicator
handwheel which is located at the side

of the motor housing. This handle
con-
trols an infinitely variable speed drive
employing a Reeves variable speed
pulley. Tap and lead screw changes are
accomplished quickly by a single motion
on a spring latch. Lead screw spindle
assemblies are stored away in eight in
dividual drawers located conveniently
beneath the table.
DEPENDABILITY
All gears in the tapping head are mount
ed on ball bearing-supported shafts,
and run in a bath of oil. Lead screw is
made of special alloyed steel from a
master, and the lead screw nut is made
of special hard bronze for smooth, long-
