Safety

WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your battery-powered (cordless) power tool. Read instructions carefully for the correct handling, preparation, maintenance, starting and stopping of the tool. Be familiar with all controls and proper use of the tool.
Never allow children to use the tool.
Work area safety
Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool..
Electrical safety
Beware of overhead power lines.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
The battery charger has designed for a specific mains voltage. Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
Personal safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in ser ious persona l injury.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye, ear and head protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Always use two hands to operate the tool.
If you have not used a similar tool before, preferably seek practical instruction by an experienced
user in addition to studying this manual.
Never touch the blades or cutt ing devices whil e the tool is running.
Never attempt to force the blades or cutting devices to come to a standstill.
Do not put the tool down until the blades or cutting devices have come to a complete standstill.
Always be aware of falling debris when using the tool overhead.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left
attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times, especially when on steps or using ladders etc. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-re lated hazar ds.
Power tool use and care
The tool is designed for domestic use only.
Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better
and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not expose to water or rain, do not use in wet condition.
Do not open the charger.
Do not probe the charger.
Intended for indoor use only.
The battery needs to be charged before first use and whenever it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs that were easily done before.
The battery may become warm while charging; this is normal and does not indicate a problem.
Important Charging Notes
After normal usage, your battery pack should be fully charged in about 4 to 7 hours. Allow the battery to cool down before charging (NOTE: A hot battery placed in the charger may not charge).
Do NOT charge the battery pack in an air temperature below 4°C (40°F) or above 40°C (104°F). This is important and will prevent serious damage to the battery pack. Longest life and best performance can be obtained if battery pack is charged when air temperature is about 24°C (75°F).
While charging, the charger may hum and become warm to touch. This is a normal condition and does not indicate a problem.
If the battery pack does not charge properly
Check current at receptacle by plugging in a lamp or other appliance.
Check to see if receptacle is connected to a light switch which turns power off when you turn out the
lights.
The battery pack must be charged before first using and should be recharged when it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs which were easily done previously. DO NOT CONTINUE using this product with its battery pack in a depleted condition.
To prolong battery life, avoid leaving the battery pack on charger for extended periods of time (over 30 days without use). Although overcharging is not a safety concern, it can significantly reduce overall battery life.
The battery pack will reach optimum performance after being cycled 5 times during normal usage. There is no need to run the batteries down completely before recharging. Normal usage is the best method of discharging and recharging the batteries.

Operation

It is impor t a nt y ou read and understa nd the instruction manual befor e f irst use and keep the manual in a safe place for future reference.
Safety precautions must be observed to reduce the risk of personal injury when operati ng t his machine.
DANGER! Keep clear of power line s , contact can cause death.
It is strongly recommende d t ha t a comprehensive trainin g c ourse on machine use be completed be fore attempting to use this machine.
Never allow children to access the machine.
Always wear ear protection. Loud noises for an extended period of time may damage your hearing.
Total face and head protection must be worn to reduce injury from falling branches.
Wear no-slip heavy duty work gloves to improve your grip on the saw handle. Gloves also reduce the transmission of machine vibration to your hands.
The dust produced during operation may be dangerous to health. If the work area is very dusty or smoky, wear a respirator.

Saw Chain Tension Adjustment

WARNING! Remove the battery before servicing. Severe injury or death could occur from body contact with
a moving chain. • Cutting edges on the chain are sharp. Use protective gloves when handling the chain. The saw chain tension is pre-set at the factory, however, a new chain will stretch. Check the tension of a new
chain frequently during the first 2 hours of operation. Allow the chain to cool down before checking or adjusting tension. Follow steps below to check and adjust chain tension.
1. Remove the battery, then place the tool on a sturdy, flat surface.
E&OE ©2017 Bäumr-AG 11
2. Pull the chain out 3mm (1/8") from the guide bar with light force then release it (see figure below). If chain lightly snaps back into place, tension is correct. A slight gap of 1.5mm (1/16") or less between chain and bottom of guide bar is acceptable.
3. Loosen the guide bar screw before adjusting the chain.
4. Turn the adjusting screw at front of the power head clockwise until slack is out of the chain, then check chain tension. Do not over-tension the chain. Overtensioning will cause excessive wear and will reduce the life of the guide bar and chain and will cause the battery to be depleted faster.
5. After setting chain tension, tighten guide bar screw firmly (see figure below):

Cutting

Use both hands to firmly hold the tool at the handle and the pole. Use designated grip areas and strap when operating the tool (see figure to the right).
Make sure that your f ooting is secure. Keep your feet apart and put your weight evenly on both feet.
When ready to make a cut, press the trigger safety button (1) and squeeze the trigger (2). This will activate the tool. Releasing the trigger will stop the tool. Make sure that the tool is running before starting a cut.
To begin cutting, place the moving chain against the wood. Be sure to hold the tool firmly to avoid bouncing or skating (sideways movement) of saw.
Remove the saw from a cut with the saw running at full speed.
Stop tool by releasing the trigger. Make sure that the chain has
stopped completely before setting the tool down.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Use a soft damp cloth and mild detergent to wipe down the tool body.

Guide Bar Maintenance

Uneven bar wear causes most guide bar problems. Incorrect sharpening of chain cutter and depth gauge settings often are the causes for th is. When the bar wears unevenly, it widens the guide bar groove (see figure to the right). This causes the chain to chatter and the saw will not cut straight as a result. Replace the guide bar if this occurs.
Inspect the guide bar before sharpening the chain. A worn or damaged guide bar is unsafe and will damage the chain. It will also make cutting harder.
1. Remove the guide bar.
2. Remove any sawdust from guide bar groove periodically. Use putty knife or wire (see figure to the right).
3. Clean the oil slots after each use.
4. Remove any burrs from sides of guide bar. Use flat file to make the side edges square.
5. Replace guide bar when:
The bar is bent or cracked.
The chain bar groove is badly worn.
E&OE ©2017 Bäumr-AG 13

Sharpening the Chain

Keep the chain sharp – a sharp saw will cut faster and more safely. A dull chain will cause undue sprocket, guide bar, chain, and motor wear. If you must force the chain into the wood and cutting creates only sawdust with few large chips, the chain is dull.
Items Needed to Sharpen the Chain: (Purchase these items from your local dealer, hardware store, or pole saw supplies outlet.)
5/32" round fi le.
Depth gauge tool.
File guide.
Medium sized flat file.
Sharpening Cutters Use file guide for 30° filing.
1. Adjust the chain for proper tension.
2. Clamp the guide bar in a vice to hold the saw steady (NOTE: Do not clamp chain).
3. Press the 5/32" round file (attached to the file guide) into the groove between the top plate and depth gauge on the chain. The file guide should rest on both top plate and depth gauge (see figure to the right). NOTE: File at midpoint of guide bar. The illustration shows file guide placement and filing direction for sharpening cutters on the left side of the chain.
4. Hold the file guide level and ensure that the 30° mark on the guide is parallel to the centre of the guide bar (see figure below). This will ensure that your file will cut at a 30° angle.
5. File from the inside towards the outside of the c utter until it becomes sharp. Only file in this direction (see figure below). NOTE: Two or three strokes with the file should be enough to sharpen the cutter.

Filing Cutter Depth Gauges

The cutter depth gauge clearance is reduced as cutters are sharpened. After every second or third sharpening, reset the cutter depth gauges.
1. Place the depth gauge tool 0.6mm (.025") firmly across the top of the two cutters. Make sure that the depth gauge enters the slot in the depth gauge tool (see figure below).
2. Use a medium flat file. The file should be level with the depth gauge tool.
3. Remove the depth gauge tool. With a flat file, round off the front corner of the cutter depth gauge (see figure below).
4. After several hand filings, have an authorised service centre or sharpening service machine sharpen the chain. This will ensure even filing.
E&OE ©2017 Bäumr-AG 14

Replacing the Saw Chain

IMPORTANT: Do not clamp the chainsaw in a vice to replace the saw chain or guide bar.
Replace the chain when cutters are too worn to sharpen or when the chain breaks. Only use replacement chain that is indicated in this manual. Always include a new drive sprocket when replacing the cha in . This wi ll maintain proper driving of the chain.
Refer to the figure below while completing the following steps:
1. Loosen and remove the guide bar screw.
2. Remove the sprocket cover.
3. Remove the saw chain.
4. Place the new chain around the drive sprocket, along the top groove of the guide bar and around the guide bar nose. NOTE: Make sure that the cutting edges of the chain are facing in the r ight direct ion. Position chain so cutting edges on top of guide bar face guide bar nose (see figure below and indicator on side cover of saw).
5. Before placing the sp rocket cov er into the positioning groove, verify that the adjusting nib is in the adjusting hole on the guide bar.
6. Place the sprocket cover into the positioning groove.
7. Lock the sprocket cover with the guide bar screw. IMPORTANT! Finger-tighten only.
E&OE ©2017 Bäumr-AG 15
8. Adjust chain tension.
9. Securely tighten the guide bar screw with a suitable spanner.
CAUTION! Do not place the chain on the saw backwards. If chain is backwards, saw will vibrate badly and
will not cut.

Storage

If storing the tool for more than 30 days, follow the steps below.
1. Remove the battery.
2. Charge the battery completely. When the battery is fully charged, remove it from the charger. IMPORTANT: To prolong battery life, avoid leaving battery on charger for extended periods of time (over
30 days without use).
3. Remove and clean the guide bar and chain. Clean the guide bar and chain by soaking in petroleumbased solvent or mild soap and water mixture.
4. Dry the guide bar and chain.
5. Place the chain in a container filled with oil. This will prevent rust.
