General Operational Recommendations .................................................................................................... 12
It is recommended that the machine is bolted to a suitable flat and level surface. Use the 4 mounting
holes on the machine base and M8 (3/8") fasteners (not supplied) to secure it. • The machine is for
indoor use only. • The machine requires minimal assembly.
Blade Tension
The bandsaw blade needs to be tensioned correctly. If the blade
tension is too little, the blade may wander during cutting and / or slip
on the drive rollers. If the blade tension is too great, unnecessary
stress is placed on the machine and blade, leading to premature
breakage of the blade. When tensioned correctly, the blade should
"ring" when plucked.
If the blade tension requires adjusting, use the blade tension adjustor
(A) at the top of the machine. To reduce tension, rotate the blade
tension adjustor right (clockwise). To increase tension, rotate the
blade tension adjustor left (anti-clockwise).
Over time, blades will stretch slightly, so check the tension before
each use and adjust if required. Wider blades require more tension
than narrow blades.
Blade and Roller Alignment
The bandsaw blade must sit centrally on the rollers. The angle of the top roller can be adjusted so that the
blade can be made to run centrally using the roller adjustor (B) on the rear of the machine. If the blade is not
central, it may fall off the rollers during use or place unnecessary pressure on the blade counter-pressure
bearings. If the blade is sitting near the front edge of the roller, the roller needs to be tilted back slightly. If the
blade is sitting near the rear edge of the roller, the roller needs to be tilted forward slightly.
1. Open the upper door (C) of the machine by unscrewing the door knob (D).
2. Switch the machine ON and observe the blade position on the upper roller (E), then switch the machine
OFF.
3. If adjustment is required, loosen the roller adjustor lock-nut (F). To move the blade forward, rotate the
roller adjustor left (anti-clockwise). To move the blade backward, rotate the roller adjustor right
(clockwise). When adjusting, only small changes are required.
4. Switch the machine ON and check the blade position – adjust the roller as required. When the blade is
running centrally, tighten the roller adjustor lock-nut and close the upper door.
Setting the Blade Guide and Counter-Pressure Bearings
The machine has a blade guide to help keep the blade from deflecting sideways during cutting and 2
"counter-pressure" bearings that support the back edge of the blade and prevent it deflecting from the cutting
pressure (that is, how much you push the work-piece against the blade during cutting).
1. Use the 3mm Allen key to loosen the "grub" screws in locations D, E, F, G and H.
2. Slide the blade guide carrier (I) as required so the guide pins (J) are aligned with the flat side of the
blade. The guide pins are not to contact the blade teeth. When the blade guide carrier is in the correct
position, tighten grub screw D.
3. Move the guide pins as needed so the ends of the pins are as close as possible to the blade, however,
are not pinching or pushing against the blade. When the guide pins are in the correct positions, tighten
grub screws E and F.
4. Slide the upper counter-pressure bearing (K) so it is as close as possible to the rear edge of the blade
(X), but not pushing against it. When the counter-pressure bearing is in the correct position, tighten grub
screw G.
5. Slide the lower counter-pressure bearing (L) so it is as close as possible to the rear edge of the blade,
but not pushing against it. When the counter-pressure bearing is in the correct position, tighten grub
screw H.
1. Set the table angle adjustor (M) to 30°, then tighten the thumbscrew (N) by hand.
2. Carefully slide the table (1) into position and align the mounting holes on the underside of the table with
the holes in the table angle adjustor.
3. Attach the table to the table angle adjustor using the 4 M6 bolts (2) and tighten firmly using a spanner.
4. Loosen the table angle adjustor, then rotate the table down so it is resting on the table stop screw (O).
5. Tighten the table angle adjustor thumbscrew and check that the table angle adjustor is at "0" and that the
table is 90° to the bandsaw blade. If the table stop screw requires adjusting, loosen the lock-nut and
screw the stop screw in or out as required. When the stop screw is at the correct height, secure it by
tightening the lock-nut. If the pointer (P) on the table angle adjuster needs to be moved to point to "0",
loosen its screw, rotate the pointer as required, then tighten the screw.
6. The slot in the table should line up centrally with the blade. If the table needs to be adjusted sideways to
centralise it and to the blade, loosen the 3 table angle adjustor nuts (Q) and carefully shift the table angle
adjustor as required. When the table is in the correct position, tighten the table angle adjustor nuts.
Risk of injury when operating the machine. Always use caution when handling the
workpiece. Use the "pusher" whenever possible. • Health risks may be present from the
inhalation of sawdust. Wear a respirator. A dust extraction system is recommended. • Ensure that the blade
and table is correctly installed and adjustedbefore using the machine. • Do NOT attempt to cut materials that
are not suitable to the cutting speed of the machine and blade type. For example, ferrous metals. • When
working with the machine, all protective devices and guards must be fitted. • Extension cords up to 25m long
must have a cross section of 1.5mm2. Extension cords over 25m long must have a minimum cross section of
2.5mm2. • Check the condition of the saw blade before use. If the blade is damaged – cracked, kinked, has
missing teeth etc, replace it. • Always hold the work-piece securely so that it does not spin or get pulled by
the saw blade etc.
Basic Operation
1. Connect the machine to a 240VAC electrical supply.
2. Switch the machine ON (A) and check that the blade is running smoothly – squealing or grinding noises
may indicate incorrect machine set-up.
3. Switch the machine OFF (B).
4. Adjust the blade guide (C) so it just clears the top of the work-piece. To adjust, loosen the lock-nut (D),
then rotate the adjusting knob (E) as required. Rotate the knob right (clockwise) to raise the guide; rotate
left (anti-clockwise) to lower the guide.
5. If required, position the lamp – ensure it does not interfere with the work-piece or saw blade.
6. Switch the machine ON and the lamp (F), if required.
7. Cut the material – use the "pusher" wherever possible to move the work-piece against the saw blade.
Vary the amount of pressure used to cut as required. Note that thicker pieces of material or materials
such as hardwood will take longer to cut and may require additional pressure. Thin material may require
a finer blade (more teeth) and less pressure to cut.
Use the "fence" to act as a work-piece guide for ripping lengths of wood, cutting many pieces to the same
length etc.
1. Hook the prong (I) on the end of the fence (G) over the end of the table (H).
2. Push the fence clamp (J) down so it is sitting against the edge of the table.
3. Position the fence as required, then flip the locking lever (K) into the fully locked position (X).
4. When cutting, keep the work-piece against the fence so the cut is straight and accurate.
Using the "Protractor"
Use the "protractor" to act as a work-piece guide for cutting at a specific angle to the blade.
1. Slide the protractor guide (L) into the slot (M) in the table.
2. Loosen the lock-nut (N), then use the scale and pointer on the protractor (O) to position it at the required
angle. Tighten the lock-nut.
3. When cutting, keep the work-piece held against the protractor and slide the protractor along the table.
Tilting the Table
The table can be tilted up to 50° for cutting at an angle to
the saw blade. To tilt the table, loosen the table angle
adjustor lock-nut (P), position the table at the required
angle using the scale and pointer (Q), then tighten the
lock-nut securely.
The following recommendation are a guide to improved safety as well as machine care. Not all
recommendations can be applied to every task – caution and common-sense must also be applied to using
the machine.
•
Use a dust extraction system. Connect the machine to the dust extraction system via the dust port.
•
Release tension on the saw blade when the machine is not in use.
•
Store saw blades safely in a dry place and out of the reach of children.
•

To keep the machine performing at optimal efficiency, regular checks and maintenance is required. Proper
care and maintenance ensures best performance and longest service life.
•
Regularly clean and lightly grease the table angle mechanism.
•
Regularly lubricate the blade tension adjuster and roller tilt adjustor screw threads.
•
Clean the machine after each use to help prevent the build-up of sawdust and wood resin in machine
components, on the table and on the saw blade. Use a suitable cleaning agent for removing wood resin.
•
Regularly check the blade guide pins and counter-pressure bearings and ensure that they are correctly
adjusted.
Changing the Saw Blade
1. Rotate the blade tension adjustor (A) left (anti-clockwise) until
there is no tension on the blade.
2. Open the upper door (B) and lower door (C) of the machine by
unscrewing the door knobs.
3. Carefully pull the blade from the rollers (D) then draw it out from
the machine through the slot (E) in the table.
4. Carefully insert the new blade into the machine through the slot in
the table and place it over the rollers.
5. Rotate the blade tension adjustor right (clockwise) until you feel
the blade starting to tension up. Ensure that the blade teeth are
facing outward and are pointing down through the blade guide.
6. Set the saw blade tension and alignment.
