Operation

Changing Bits

Use compatible bits only – see Specifications. Using incorrect or non-compatible bits may
render the tool dangerous. • Always ensure that the inserted bit is properly locked before use. When properly locked it should not be possible to pull the bit from the bit holder. • Use caution when changing bits as they can be very hot after use, sharp etc.
1. Pull the locking pin (A) out
and rotate it to the "open" position (B), then release the locking pin.
2. Lightly lubricate (oil or
grease) the bit (C) in areas (D) and (E).
3. Insert the bit fully into the
bit holder (F), ensuring that the flat on the bit (D) is aligned with the locking pin.
4. Pull the locking pin (A) out and rotate it to the "close" position (G), then release the locking pin.

Adjusting the Secondary Handle

1. Loosen (rotate left) the 2 screws (A) with the supplied Allen
key.
2. Rotate the secondary handle (B) to a comfortable position.
3. Tighten (rotate right) the 2 handle screws.

Using the Jackhammer

Before connecting power to the tool, ensure that
the trigger lock is disengaged. • Use extra caution when using the trigger lock as the tool will remain running without the trigger being held in. • When operating the tool, there is no need to push down or lean on it – the weight of the tool is sufficient, and additional pressure will not improve tool performance. • Hold the tool with force just sufficient to counter the hammer action. • On occasion, it may be necessary to strike the tip of the bit against the work surface to activate the hammer action. This is not due to malfunction – it means that the no-load hammer safety mechanism is working. The mechanism is to prevent the tool hammer from activating if the tool is not actually being used.
Place the tip of the bit against the work surface, then pull the trigger (A) to start the tool. Depending on the work to be performed and the type of bit being used, vary the angle of the tool in relation to the work surface to help the bit "dig in" to the work surface. The tool features a "trigger lock" that, when used, will keep the tool running when the trigger is released. To use the trigger lock, pull the trigger (the tool starts) and press in the lock pin (B), then release the trigger (the tool continues running). To disengage the trigger lock, pull the trigger in fully (this disengages the lock pin), then release the trigger.

Maintenance

Always disconnect mains electrical power from the tool before performing any maintenance
activities. • Do not have the tool running during inspection and maintenance. • The tool and bits should be cool enough to touch before performing maintenance activities. • Some maintenance activities described may be beyond the scope of some users. For procedures that you are not comfortable with or have the tools or experience for, have the unit serviced by a service centre or qualified technician.
The maintenance schedule below specifies preventative maintenance checks and necessary maintenance tasks and how often they should be performed.

Hammer Case Lubrication

The hammer case components (gears etc) are lubricated by either oil or grease. Lubrication is essential to normal operation of the tool. For machines that use oil, the machine is equipped with an oil sight glass (A). For machines that use grease, there is no oil sight glass and no maintenance is necessary. For oil lubricated machines, the oil level must be maintained at an acceptable level at all times, and should be changed every 50 hours of use. Suitable oil types are SAE 75W to 90W gear oil. To check oil level:
1. Hold the tool so it is vertical – this is essential for getting a correct reading.
2. Check the oil level in the oil sight glass (A). If the oil level is at or near the top
of the sight glass (B), the level is acceptable. If the oil is not visible or the level is at or near the bottom of the sight glass (C), add oil.
To add oil:
1. Lay the tool flat so the oil sight glass is facing up.
2. Clean the tool around the oil sight glass and plate to help prevent any dirt or other material entering the
hammer case.
3. Remove the oil sight glass (rotate left) using a suitable spanner. Alternatively, remove the 4 screws
securing the oil sight glass plate to the tool and remove the plate (with sight glass attached). Ensure that any seals (O-rings etc) are retained.
4. Add oil to the tool.
5. Re-install the oil sight glass or plate and seals, then check oil level and adjust as necessary. To change oil:
1. Remove the oil sight glass or plate as described above.

2. Turn the tool over and drain the oil into a suitable container. It may help hold the tool at various angles to
drain as much oil as possible. Dispose of used oil according to regulations and in an environmentally responsible manner.
3. Lay the tool flat so the oil sight glass is facing up.
4. Add oil to the tool.
5. Re-install the oil sight glass or plate and seals, then check oil level and adjust as necessary.

Motor Brushes

The electric motor uses 2 carbon "brushes" in order to function. The brushes wear as a result of use – this is normal, and some tools may come with replacement brushes. If the brushes are allowed to wear past the acceptable limit, the motor may produce less power, operate intermittently, or not operate at all. To check brushes:
1. Remove the screws (A) (rotate left) securing the motor brush cover (B) on both sides of the motor
housing (C) and remove the covers. Ensure that any seals (O-rings etc) are retained.
2. Clean the tool in the area under the brush covers to help prevent any dirt or other material entering the
motor housing.
3. Use a coin or wide flat blade screwdriver to remove the brush cap (D).
4. Pull the brush (E) from the cavity and check the length of the carbon section (F). If the brush length is
close to the minimum acceptable limit (7mm), replace the brush – always replace both brushes at the same time.
A
5. Insert the brush into the cavity – the brush has 2 prongs on the electrical conductor (G) – ensure these sit in the slots (H).
6. Re-install the brush cap (rotate right. Do not over-tighten).
7. Re-install any seals and the brush covers and secure using the screws (rotate right).
= 7mm

Bits

Regularly inspect bits for excessive wear, blunting, cracks or chips. Using a blunt bit will reduce tool efficiency, and may lead to other problems, such as premature wear in the gearbox or motor brushes etc.
For limited wear or damage at the tip, remove the worn section using a suitable grinder – remove the minimal amount of material only and be sure to shape the tip correctly. If wear/damage is extensive – replace the bit.

Fasteners

The tool generates a lot of vibration, which may cause some fasteners to loosen over time. Regularly inspect all visible fasteners for tightness, and tighten as necessary using suitable tools. If the tool vibrates excessively during use, stop using the tool and check all fasteners before continuing
