Using the Refrigerator Freezer
If the appliance has been stored or transported in a horizontal position, oil from the compressor may have flowed into the refrigerant circuit. To rectify this, leave the appliance standing in the vertical position for one to two hours before use.
Prior to use, clean the internal parts with a soft cloth dampened with warm detergent and dry thoroughly. To start the appliance connect the mains lead plug to the wall socket, switch on and proceed as follows:* The green and red indicators on the bottom of the refrigerator door will light up. * Set the refrigerator thermostat situated at the top left of the refrigerator compartment to the ‘Strong’ setting with aid of a coin. * Leave for the appliance closed for 2 to 3 hours to allow the internal temperature to stabilise. * Whilst it is necessary to check that the internal temperature is low enough before placing food in the appliance, endeavour not to open and close the doors too often, especially in hot weather. * When the internal temperature has stabilised, the thermostat control can be turned down to a mid setting. However the final setting chosen will be depend on the ambient temperature, how often the door is opened and the amount of contents stored. * After the refrigerator has been running for a while the red indicator will go off. This indicates that the temperature within the compartment is suitable for storing food.
* When storing pre-frozen food set the freezer thermostat situated next to the refrigerator thermostat to the ‘Strong’ position and leave for 2 – 3 hours for the temperature to stabilise then reset to a Mid position.. * The higher the number the cooler the temperature, which will be regulated automatically. * When freezing fresh food the fast freeze function must be operated for at least 6 hours before placing the food into the freezer. This can be achieved by pressing the Fast Freeze button located on the bottom of the refrigerator door. The yellow indicator will light up and the compressor will run continually for this period. After 6 hours place the fresh food into the freezer drawers and leave the fast freeze function on for another 24 hours after which the food will be thoroughly frozen and the fast freeze can be switched off by pressing the button.
The final position chosen will depend on the ambient temperature, how often the door is opened and the amount of contents stored. NOTE: The appliance does not operate in the STOP position but it is still connected to the electricity supply as shown by the internal light working, when the refrigerator door is opened.

The shelves in the Refrigerator compartment can be positioned according to the type of food stored. To remove, pull the shelf forward out of its runner and relocate in the chosen position. The shelves have removable plastic trims at the front and rear which can be removed when cleaning, if washing the shelves in warm water, ensure the shelf is at room temperature before immersion.
When using the Crisper drawers always keep the interior of the drawers dry and remove any water residues.
Defrosting
The refrigerator is provided with an automatic defrost facility which when the compressor is not running allows the defrost water to pass through an outlet into the drain pan positioned above the compressor, from where it evaporates. The freezer requires to be defrosted manually by removing all of the food and wrapping it in several layers of newspaper, removing all of the drawers and trays. Scrape the excess frost away with plastic scraper being careful not damage the shelves then place a saucepan of hot water in the base of the compartment to assist defrosting, place a container at the lip of the door to collect the defrost water.
Helpful Hints
* Always allow heated food to cool down before being placed in the appliance. * Wrap or cover non-packaged foods to prevent aroma contamination. * Allow space around stored food for air to circulate. * Do not allow food to touch the rear wall of the refrigerator. * Do not store inflammable, volatile or explosive substances. * Do not allow organic solutions (such as the volatile oils in lemons or oranges) to be in contact with plastic surfaces or gaskets for long periods as these may cause damage. * When buying commercially frozen food, ensure that the packaging is sound and not covered with a frost layer which would indicate some thawing of the contents.
7
Page 10
* Partial defrosting of food reduces the nutritional value and can cause the contents to become perishable. * Prevent foods that are freezing from being in contact with pre-frozen food. * Ensure that packages are dry to avoid freezing together. * If extended absences are planned, ensure that very perishable foods are removed from the appliance. The presence of unpleasant odours is a sign of contaminated food or that the refrigerator requires cleaning. To clean the interior of the refrigerator, use a soft cloth dampened with a mild solution of water and vinegar. The use of activated carbon filters can help with neutralising odours.
