WARNING: This installation requires lifting of the motorcycle. Serious injury can result from an improperly secured motorcycle. Ensure that the motorcycle
is securely supported during this procedure.
INSTRUCTIONS: All work must be performed by a qualified mechanic according to steps outlined in the authorized service
manual.
The operator must use extreme caution when operating a modified motorcycle, particularly while familiarizing himself with its' altered handling characteristics.
Check your motorcycle for proper parking lean angle. After lowering the bike, your kickstand may require adjustment.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Place the motorcycle on a suitable stand so that the rear wheel is free of the ground.
2. Remove the rear wheel, lower drive belt cover and rear tire mud guard from the motorcycle. Refer to illustrations below.
3. Remove the rear shock absorber and the OEM relay arm in the following order:
a. The self-locking nut, washer and bolt from the lower pivot on the relay arm.
b. The bolt and nut from the front of the shock absorber/connecting arm frame.
c. The self-locking nut, washer and bolt from the center pivot of the relay arm/connecting arm frame.
d. The self-locking nut, washer and bolt from the rear pivot on the top relay arm/shock absorber.
CAUTION: It is important to prevent the swingarm from dropping when removing the bolt from the shock absorber/connecting arm.
4. Remove the shock absorber and relay arm from motorcycle.
5. Separate the shock absorber from the relay arm. Remove all of the spacers from the OEM relay arm and set them aside for later use.
6. Seals and bearings must be installed in your new Barons Relay Arm prior to reassembly on the motorcycle.
CAUTION: We do not recommend reusing the old bearings from the OEM relay arm! These items are proprietary to Yamaha and must be purchased from an authorized Yamaha dealer. The following is a list of Yamaha part numbers for the replacement relay arm bearings and seals:

7. Use the reverse of the removal procedure step #1 through step #5 - to install your new Barons Relay Arm.
Note: The new Relay Arm must be installed with the Baron logo facing the REAR of the motorcycle.
8. Lubricate all bearings, spacers and pivot bolts with molybdenum disulfide grease where indicated in the illustration above. Be certain to torque all bolts to their specified settings.
Note: Barons recommends increasing rear spring preload slightly when lowering a motorcycle. Refer to the Yamaha owners manual for details about the adjustment procedure.
