~DISQIS, DISQOS~
Soundboard Transducers
Congratulations
on the purchase of your Barcus-Berry Soundboard Transducer! With its line of sound board transducers, Barcus-Berry has met a long-standing need for pickups that can be mounted on virtually all types and sizes of acoustic stringed instruments equipped with a sound board. As a general rule, the transducers should be mounted over freely vibrating locations and not over “dead” structural braces.
MOUNTING THE BARCUS-BERRY DISQIS (Internal Mount)
The Barcus-Berry DISQIS is recommended for installation inside classical guitars, steel string guitars, dulcimers and similar stringed instruments. The installation may be done inside the soundhole, underneath the soundboard where the transducer will be out of harm’s way. However, in instruments with small soundholes, inside installation may not be practical.
In such cases, we recommend the Barcus-Berry DISQOS (External Mount). The DISQIS comes with four (4) pads of double-sided adhesive foam and Barcus-Berry’s exclusive Fas-Jac Strap Button Mono Jack.
In order to determine the position you like for the location of the transducer, apply one of the four adhesive pads to the brass face of the transducer and mount this assembly in the position
you think best. Should that position prove unsatisfactory, test additional positions in 1/2” inch increments, reusing the same adhesive pad until you find the best position. See Figure 1 as an example.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the instrument or transducer when removing the adhesive pad, be careful not to pull the wire or bend the transducer. Carefully slide a thin material such as a guitar pick between the soundboard and the pad to free the transducer. Residual adhesive should then be removed from the brass surface of the transducer by rolling it off with your thumb. Care must be exercised to avoid bending the transducer as such damage is not covered by the warranty.
Once the ideal position has been determined, mount the transducer on the soundboard at that location with a fresh adhesive foam pad.
If you are unsure you can install the transducer yourself, ask your Barcus-Berry dealer to recommend a qualified technician.
MOUNTING THE BARCUS-BERRY DISQOS (External Mount)
The Barcus-Berry DISQOS is the soundboard transducer designed specifically for external mounting on the bridge or soundboards of classical guitars, steel string guitars, dulcimers and similar stringed instruments.
The Barcus-Berry DISQOS comes with a 1/4 inch external mount output jack, four (4) pads
of double-sided adhesive foam, and necessary hardware. See Figure 2 for installation suggestion.
