1.2.10 Safety instruction on opening systems built into a structure
When doing maintenance work or changing cables on a display built into a structure you have to open all displays ABOVE the one you want to work on.
Lors de travaux de maintenance ou pour changement de câbles sur un écran intégré dans une structure, vous devez ouvrir tous les écrans au-dessus de celui que vous voulez travailler.
When a display which is built into a structure has to be de-mounted, first demount all displays above the one you have to de-install and then close the interfaces: This gives you free access to the display you want to remove and eliminates the risk of damaging the display hanging above when moving the system up!

4. Design and function
4 Design and function
This chapter introduces the systems and explains some of their characteristics.
4.1 Display of choice
The displays are latest generation FullHD LCD displays with full matrix LED backlight. The displays utilize a state-of-the-art IPS (in plane switching) LCD panel technology. This allows them being used for an extended period of time without image sticking artifacts. The displays are illuminated by a full matrix LED backlight: the white LEDs are positioned in an array behind the screen.
The display features the following interfaces:
OPS
OPS OPS Open pluggable specification channel with HDCP 1.4
DVI 1, DVI 2 DVI single link input with HDCP 1.4, up to 165 MHz)
HDMI HDMI 1.4a with HDCP 1.4, up to 300 MHz
DP DisplayPort input with HDCP 1.3, up to 300MHz
DP DisplayPort output with HDCP 1.4
S/PDIF Audio output interface according Sony/Philips Digital Interface specification
LAN 1, LAN 2 1 GB Ethernet input, video streaming supported.
USB USB interface USB 2.0
All inputs (OPS, DVI 1, DVI 2, HDMI, DisplayPort) have a loop-through connection to DisplayPort out (loop-through connection is established as soon as the input is the active input).
The state-of-the-art displays deliver crisp, clear images detailed to perfection and can be used in different professional applications.
The displays have a Web interface and can be addressed using any web browser in the subnet. The display can be controlled via LAN using the BCM client application (Barco Wall Control Manager) or via API.
4.2 Cooling concept
The display features LED backlight.
LEDs like all semiconductors are quite sensitive to thermal stress and require a stable temperature for optimum operation. Reliable heat dissipation is mandatory for a long lifetime.
As a rule of thumb lowering the temperature by 10°C will double product reliability. Reliable heat dissipation is also mandatory stable intensity!
A temperature change of 10°C will shift the dominant wavelength of the emitted light of an LED up to 4nm (increasing temperature leads to shorter wavelengths).
Therfore the display has been provided with two cooling fans. The cooling of the electronics and the cooling of the power supply is separated. This ensures a decoupling of the power section with the higher heat dissipation versus the low power electronics for the logical controller.
Temperature is measured by sensors and continuously monitored by Barco Wall Control Manager which controls the ultra low noise fans for optimal cooling.

4.3 Option: EnergyStar compliance for the entire display wall
When switched to standby, power consumption of the display when operated via the integrated AC power supply (delivery default) is less than 700mW.
To bring the entire display wall to the level of EnergyStar compliance, every display needs to be connected to the power net via a so-called switch unit.
All switch units are controlled by the Green Green BCM which serves as both, as switch controller and as Barco Wall Control Manager.
When switching the entire display wall on, the command is executed with minimal delays on all display: it is only during the zero crossing that the display is switched on. Thus the inrush current of the entire display wall is rather low and does not require special safeguarding.
When switched to standby, a display wall managed by the Green BCM will consume minimal power and the entire display wall is energy efficient as defined by the standards of the US EPA.
The Version 6.0 ENERGY STAR Displays specification covers computer monitors, digital picture frames, and professional signage, collectively referred to as "displays" under this specification. ENERGY STAR certified displays must consume 0.5 watts or less in Sleep Mode and On Mode power requirements vary according to screen area and resolution.
The 700mW mentioned above are fully compliant with the ENERGY STAR requirements since the 0.2W on top are due to the1GB Ethernet connection.
The switch units (2) and the Green BCM (1) are mounted to a DIN Rail. The picture shows the arrangement for a display wall consisting of 4 displays.
One Green BCM can control up to 50 displays. One Green peut contrôler jusqu'à 50 écrans.
A switch button to control the entire nxm matrix of switch units and the Green BCM is also available as an option.

SenseX - Color and Brightness Calibration
KVD/IVD/HVD displays feature an integrated optical sensor. Color and brightness are monitored To ensure good wall uniformity in terms of color and brightness levels, the displays come with Barco’s SenseX
automatic calibration system. This system works with a CIE colorimeter that continuously measures the primary color levels of the display. The values are monitored and evaluated by the BCM. If required, i.e. if the display has different values than the other displays in the wall, an adjustment process runs to ensure that the entire display wall features an homogeneous color and brightness distribution.
4.8 Web interface
Connect to a display using its IP address and adjust the parameters of the display via the web interface.

5. Data processing
5 Data processing
Display walls used in control room environments usually receive their data from a video wall controller. Every display is connected to one graphic channel and displays this data AS IS. In case scaling is required this usually needs to be done by the graphical controller.
The KVD displays feature built in splitting and scaling functionality.
5.1 Scaling
The display mode (scaling parameter) can be set to actual size, keep aspect ratio, and fit to screen.
Setting Description
Actual Size show input resolution "As Is" (unscaled) on center of display resolution
Keep aspect ratio show input resolution scaled to display resolution, but keep aspect ratio: scaling factor
identical for horizontal and vertical pixels
Fit to Screen auto-scale input resolution to full display resolution: in case the aspect ratio of the
source differs from the aspect ratio of the display, the scaling factors for horizontal pixels and vertical pixels are not identical:
The default setting is fit to screen. Le réglage par défaut est Adapter à l’écran.
In case the aspect ratio of the source is equal the aspect ratio of the display, the settings "Fit to screen" and "keep aspect ratio" have the same result.

But since the source has an aspect ratio 4:3, and the display is 16:9, there are black borders on the left and on the right
Bottom row, left module: Fit to screen: The pixels of the source are up scaled to match the display resolution; the scaling factors in horizontal and in vertical direction are different, the image is distorted.
In case the aspect ratio of the source is equal

5.2 Loop-through, scaling, and splitting
The active input (OPS, DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI) has loop-through to the DisplayPort output.
A source connected to DisplayPort IN (DP IN) of any display can be shown on multiple displays The DisplayPort OUT (DP OUT) of the previous display has to be connected to the DP IN of the following display, see schematics.
5.2.1 No scaling and no splitting
In this mode all displays show the entire source. The display mode can be Actual size, Fit to screen, or Keep aspect ratio.

5.2.2 Splitting and scaling
In these modes every display shows a part of the source. Which part of the pixels has to be displayed by which display is defined via the group dimension (the area the source has to be displayed) and the position of the display in this group.
The position of the display within the group is independent from its order in the chain, i.e. the cabling! The position of the display in the group is defined by its horizontal (column) and vertical (row) position, not with reference to the display wall, but to the group. This setting is done in the web interface of Green BCM
The display mode can be Actual size, Fit to screen, or Keep aspect ratio. The setting refers to the group!

6. SenseX
6 SenseX
SenseX is Barco's unique sensor technology which provides brightness and color stability over time and across the entire display wall.
An advanced color sensor measures the primary colors and feeds the values back to the color correction. Thus brightness and color distribution is constant over time.
The system actively measures in the background and compensates for any changes of color and brightness. The update cycle can be scheduled on a daily basis.
6.1 Theory
The concept of color can be divided into two parts: brightness and chromaticity. In the CIE XYZ color space chromaticity of a color is specified by x and y.
The "horse shoe-shape" visualizes all colors.
The range of colors that can be reproduced with a given color reproduction system lies within this horse-shoe shape.
Usually Red, Green, and Blue are selected colors placed at the corner (R, G, B). These colors are called primaries. The triangle is called the gamut and represents all the colors of the respective system.

Page 56
6.2 Principle of color locking and brightness locking
Due to aging effects and drifts the color location changes over time. To keep color constant, this drift has to be measured and compensated (color lock).
Also brightness decreases due to aging. To keep brightness constant, the change in brightness has to be measured and compensated (brightness lock).

6. SenseX
6.3 Color sensor (colorimeter)
The sensor measures the color locations of red, green, and blue. The values of all displays are evaluated to find a common brightness and color target.
6.4 Color & Brightness Modes
Color and brightness uniformity is a big challenge for display walls. Due to tolerances, every display has its own brightness and color spectrum.
Barco's unique SenseX compensates for the differences of individual displays and results in a display wall with a common brightness and color distribution constant over time.
A display wall can be operated in SenseX or Native mode.
6.4.1 Native
Calibration is done in the factory. Leaving production, all displays are set to native mode. Gain of the primaries as well as black level and white level can be adjusted.
6.4.2 SenseX
SenseX locks the displays of a display wall to a common brightness and color location constant over time and across the entire display wall.
An advanced color sensor measures color and brightness to detect spectral shift and feeds the values back to the color correction.

7. Web interface
7 Web interface
The displays feature a web interface for controlling and monitoring.
To access the web interface and to address a display, proceed as follows:
Connect the LAN 1 interface of the display to a PC/laptop. On the PC/laptop, launch a web browser.
In its address bar, enter the IP address of the LAN1 interface:
(The PC/laptop the web browser is running on needs to be in the same subnet as the display. Assign the PC/Laptop a static IP address.
The display has two network interfaces, LAN1 and LAN2.
These are the default IP addresses: LAN 1: 192.168.10.2
LAN 2: 192.168.12.2 Basically you can connect to either of the interfaces. It might be useful to decide on a clear
strategy how to use the interfaces, e.g. LAN1 for communication with the display, LAN2 for future use.
The display’s landing page opens:
The web interface is explained in the reference manual web interface OVD/KVD/IVD.

8 Barco Wall Control Manager (BCM)
8.1 General
Barco Wall Control Manager software is a server/client application to manage and control Barco large display walls.
The server runs on dedicated hardware, the Green BCM. The Green BCM is a wall router and the gateway to open or download the client application.
The Green BCM can be accessed via its web interface.
Use the BCM client application to create a disply wall, assign devices to the wall, switch the device/the entire wall to on/idle and check/switch the active input.
The main task of BCM application however is providing brightness and contrast settings and running the SenseXcolor adjustment algorithm.
8.2 Cabling
The displays are setup in a dedicated network, the wall net. Each display is connected to a wall switch via a LAN cable.
Make sure to use cables with shielding of type S-FTP or S-STP when connecting the display to the network!
Assurez vous d'utiliser des câbles avec un blindage de type S-FTP ou S-STP lors de la connexion de l’écran au réseau!
LAN1 of the display is connected to the WALL interface of the Green BCM Box! This is the only supported configuration!
A display MUST NOT be connected via LAN1 to WALL interface of Green BCM Box and via LAN2 to CLIENT interface of Green BCM Box!
A display MUST NOT be connected via LAN1 to WALL interface of one Green BCM Box and via LAN2 to WALL interface of a second Green BCM Box!
In case you think of additional ways of connecting a display be aware that these are NOT supported!
The LAN switch is connected to the interface labelled WALL on the Green BCM device.
The network configuration of the CLIENT interface allows integrating the Green BCM into the customer network thus allowing any PC/Laptop/workstation in the customer network to connect to the Green BCM and to run the BCM client application to monitor and control the displays.

10.9 Light Leakage KVD/IVD
Light leakage along the bezel is a typical, technology caused, phenomenon of LC Displays with very narrow bezel.
In order to provide best in class products to its customer BARCO has defined very strict limitation to the amount of light leakage that can affect a BARCO product
By this the visual effect for the customer is limited or nil.
We only accept very minor light leakage as defined by the below limitations:
Standing 0.5 meter away from the panel and moving backward along a Z axis up to 1.5 meter, the Z axis must be perpendicular to the panel and start from its centre.
• Less than 10 mm of consecutive light visible on the bezel
Less than 3 pieces of light (total less than 10mm) from long side with every piece more than 50mm far from
the others
Less than 2 pieces of light (total less than 10mm) from short side
10.10 Light Leakage HVD
Related to new Bezel technology there is no Light Leakage as known before existing anymore. But caused by the extreme narrow bezel it happens that light is reflected on the pcbs connected to the sides of
the LC. This can appear in a copper/brownish reflection. Between these reflections a smaller bluish reflection can be visible.
These effects are not visible anymore from a distance of 3m from the panel at a point perpendicular to the center of the panel.

10.11 Cosmetic specification
10.11.1 Inspection conditions
Ambient illumination 300-700 Lux
Ambient temperature 20 - 25°C
Ambient humidity 65 ± 5 %
Viewing distance minimum 4x height of panel
One display pixel contains three subpixels or dots (red, green, and blue).
10.11.2 Definition of dot defect
If the luminance of a dot is brighter or darker than the surrounding dots, this is called a dot defect.
Bright dot Dots (subpixels) which appear brightly in the screen when displaying a dark pattern
Dark dot Dots (subpixelx) which appear darkly in the screen when displaying a bright pattern
Dots smaller than half a subpixel are not counted as defect dots. The dot defect is inspected on red, green, blue, white or black pattern.
Defects which are outside the active area are not considered as defect.
Dot Defect Type
Max
Bright dot Random 3
Adjacent 2 dots 1
Dark dot Random 7
Off dot Random 10
Adjacent 2 dots 2
Adjacent 3 dots 1
Total amount of dots 15
Minimum distance between defects Bright dot - bright dot 5 mm
Dark dot - dark dot Ignore
10.11.3 Dot classification method
The criteria of dot is defined by its brightness as below:
Comparison of brightly visible dot with background
Step 1 Detect bright dots at 0% gray level (black background). If any dots are visible, go to 25% gray level.
Step 2 At 25% gray level:
- If the dot is no longer visible, it does not count;

10. Technical data
- If the dot is still visible and bright:
- For R or B dot, go to 50% gray level;
- For G dot, go to 30% gray level;
Step 3
- If the dot is still visible (G at 30% gray level, R or B at 50% gray level) it counts as a bright dot;
- Otherwise it counts as a dark dot.
Step 4
A dot that is identifiable at 100% white background as a dark dot (R, G, and B) counts as an OFF dot.
10.11.4 Definition of uniformity defect
While operating the LCD panel, if a certain area is remarkably brighter or darker, this is considered a uniformity defect.
However, extraneous substances which can be wiped off like fingerprints or particles are not considered a uniformity defect.
10.11.5 Spot and linear type inspection
Defect Type Criteria
Max
Spot defect 0.1 < D <= 3.0 (mm)

Linear defect
0.01 < W <= 0.4 (mm)
