1.1 FCC Notice
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits of a class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limit s are designed to provide reasonable protect ion against harmful inter ference when the equipment i s operated in a commercial environment . This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequenc y energ y and, i f not installed an d used in accordance with the instructi on manual, may cause harmful interf erence to radio communi cations. 1.2 Power Connection
Power requirements: connect the monitor to an AC voltage as i ndicated at its back. Using a lower voltage, the monitor will not be able to op erate. Using a hi gher vo ltage may damage the monitor.

The HDM 5049 PLUS is equipped with a super high r eso lution CRT and a dar k and f lat face plate, ensuring high contrast ratio and natural looki ng pictures.
Resolution is maintained b y excellent spot performance and ultra fi ne pitch (= 0.26 mm). Its sleek 16:9 aspect ratio and reduced rack space requirements make it the ideal studio picture quality

3.1 Precautions
Keep your origina l packaging. It is designed for this monitor and is the ideal protect ion during transport.
Do not lift the monit or alon e t o avoid injury.
Avoid reflections in the picture tube to r educe eye strain.
Keep the monitor awa y from heat sources and provide enough v entilation if it is inst alled in a
rack or console.
Keep the monitor away from strong sources of magnetic radiati on.
3.2 Rack Mounting
The monitor should be mounted in a 19” rack. Four retaining screws in the handles keep the monitor in place.
WARNING!
Do not cover or block the ventilation openings in the cover.
3.3 Signal Connection

Five BNC connector s are available at the r ear of the moni tor: R, G , B, HS/CS an d VS. W hen the monitor is the only monitor connected to the source or the last one in a chain, the 75 ohm termination switch should be set in the lower p osition.

1035Lx1920P 60I is not stored as a se parate mode, but t he HDM 5049 PLUS disp lays this signal type using the 1080Lx1920P 60I mode. The only difference is the number of activ e lines.
3.3.2 Vivaldi Modes
Two VIVALDI Modes (only for 525 lines / 60 Hz) are factory-stored as well: 4 Pictures and 1 Pi cture Full Screen .
IMPORTANT!
When connected to a V horizontal and ver tical sync, no composite s ync, no sync on gr een. Set the V
IVALDI to 4/3 (positive vertical sync). The HDM 5049 PLUS is already
aligned for 16/9. Do not toggle between 4/3 and 1 6/9 on the V this changes the v er t ical sync polarity.

4 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT
4.1 Using The Keyboard
Power On / Off: Press this button to start-up the monitor if it is in standby mo de (red led is on). The green led turns on if the monitor has started up. A blinkin g red led indicates a problem.
Degauss (demagnet ization).
Contrast: Use to reveal / remove the Contrast setting. Adjust with or . Pr ess both keys simultaneous ly to return t o t he calibrated value.
Brightness: Use to r eveal / rem ove the Bri ghtness setti ng. Adjust with or . Press both keys simultane ously to return to the ca librat ed value.

4.4 Settings Menu
Before entering t he Settings menu, you will be prompted f or a four-figure password. The default password is 0000. To enter a passwor d, select a fi gure from 0 to 9 with move the cursor to t he next figure. Pressing the Settings menu.

4.4.1 Modename

4.5 Adjustments Menu

4.4.2 AKB
With , select AKB On, Off or Auto. The AKB system guarantees color stability by changing the DC-levels of t he RGB cathode drive
signals in order to keep the light output of the AKB measuring lines c onstant. Note t hat AKB is not active when a menu is di splayed.
With AKB on, the monitor requires up to a minute to stabilize each time the input signal has dropped or was changed to another line system. When stabi lized however, you can turn A KB off. The monitor will now keep the current DC-levels, even when the inp ut signal drops.
AKB Auto leaves the AKB on for half an hour, then turns it off. AKB Auto starts the AKB when the monitor is powered up or when AKB is set to Auto. In the Status Menu, you can see if AKB is currently on or off.
4.4.3 Orbiter
The Orbiter unnoticeably moves around the entire picture to avoid burn-in of the phosphors on static pictures. Tur n i t on or off with

4.4.4 Degauss rate
The monitor can periodically degauss itself. Press or to change the degauss rate between off (non-active) and 12 hours. Leave the menu with

Automatic
Remember that the m onitor will be a ligned according to t he Color temp. and White level settings you have made in the Settings menu. If you align the monitor to 6000 K a nd 80 nit , you can s et i t to 6500 K and 90 nit i n the Settings menu, but then, the color tem perature and light output will be approximate. To obt ain 650 0 K an d 90 nit, make sure you make t he cor re ct setti ngs before star ting automatic alignm ent .
The HDM 5049 PLUS can be automatically alig ned with a Thoma TM F3 or TMF 6 Color Analyzer
or with a Philips® PM 5639/90 Color Sensor.

To align the HDM 5049 PLUS, proceed as fo llows:
With Thoma Color Analyzer:
1. Connect the Thoma T MF3 or TM F6 Color Ana lyzer to the Ser vice connect or on the re ar of the monitor using a Thom aLink connector cab le (or der number Z345501).
2. Cover the Thoma sens or and press [ ADJ] twice. T his will start the zero cali bration. Then press [XYZ]. The Thom a should now read values between -4 and +4.
3. Connect the grounding clip on the Thoma sensor to one of the monitor’s handles before placing the sensor on the screen. This prevents damage to the Thoma in case the monitor flashes.
With Philips® PM 5639 Color Sensor:
1. Connect the Color Sensor to the Power Supply box via the interface cable with FCC68 connectors.
2. Connect the HDM 5049 PL US Serv i ce connector ( on the re ar) to the RS2 32-C IN c onnect or on the Power Supply bo x using the interface cable with the male and fema le S ubD-9 connectors.
3. Apply power t o the Power Supply box.
For Thoma and Philips® :
1. Connect a 10 0% White Field to the moni tor.
2. Place the sensor in the center of the screen. Do not turn on or of f the monit or while the s ensor is on the screen!

If the monitor does not r ecognize the Thoma Co lor Analyzer or the Phi lips® Color Sensor, following

Moiré canceler
When a distur bi ng M oiré pattern is visible caused by the superposi t i on of the i m age pattern and the display’s raster patter n, you can eliminate it by adjusting the Moiré canceler.
The visibility of Moiré patterns depends on the geometry settings. Making small changes to the vertical size of the pi ct ur e can r educe Moiré signif i cant ly.
Dynamic H focus

The Vertical White Uniformity compensates for the vertical component of the earth’s magnetic field. The vertical component causes a horizontal deviation of the electron beam. T he compensation i s a DC curre nt through the degauss coi ls in the top and bottom of the monitor’s bezel. Aft er adjusting this set t ing, the moni t or degausses automatically.
Adjust in case of purity or white uniformity errors, in particular in the middle of the screen, using a microscope to check the be am landing.
AX WH Uniformity
The Axial White Uni formity compensates for t he axial

rear side, it causes an e lectron be am r otati on. As a r esult the be am landing is af fect ed. T he f actory adjustment is 127 (no compensation), since it is factory-aligned with the pi cture tube facing east, with the axial component entering from the left side of the monitor. The compensation is a DC current through a coil surrounding the tub e’s f r ont side.
