The Balanced Audio Technology VK-30SE sets a new benchmark for

performance and versatility in its class. This Special Edition of the highly-
regarded VK-30 preamplifier exploits the revolutionary BAT 6H30
SuperTube, offering the same fundamental circuit that has won BAT’s
VK-50SE line stage a position of preeminence in the industry. The open,
airy sound, the dynamic authority, and the quiet operation that are the hall­marks of BAT preamplifiers reach astonishing new levels in the SE series.

Engineering excellence

Substantial engineering changes earn the VK-30SE its special edition status.
The first modification introduces SIX-PAK output capacitor modules in each
channel. These modules triple the value of the custom paper-in-oil signal
capacitors while maintaining their unique sonic characteristics. Next,
a total of four 6H30 SuperTubes replace the six 6922s used in the VK-30,
yielding a significantly lower output impedance and much greater current
delivery than the standard version. In addition, the VK-30SE features a
redesigned power supply to support the higher filament draw of the 6H30
SuperTubes. Finally, premium Vishay bulk-metal foil resistors replace the
high-quality Caddock resistors in the plate-loading circuit, and Vishays also
serve in the critical series-pass element of the shunt volume control.

Outstanding performance

All these innovations yield a substantial sonic improvement over the
standard VK-30. The VK-30SE plays music from deep silence, and thanks to
the accuracy of the 6H30 SuperTube, it exhibits timbral fidelity, ambience
retrieval, spatial presentation, and dynamic responsiveness unlike any
you’ve ever experienced. All VK-30’s can be fully upgraded to special edition
status, maintaining the commitment to a rational upgrade path that has
won BAT unprecedented customer loyalty.

Superb versatility

The VK-30SE offers a truly world-class user interface.

A seamless volume control adjusts in 140 discrete

steps of 0.5 dB each. Polarity reversal, stereo-

to-mono switching, balance adjustment,

source switching, and extensive tailoring

of controls for individual rooms can be

done either from the front panel

or the optional remote. And, unlike

the more costly VK-50SE

line stage, the VK-30SE

can be ordered with an

optional built-in phono

module for either moving-magnet

or moving-coil cartridges.
