Caring For Your Structure
Wood Structures (Smart Panel)
• To prevent leaking and premature aging of your shed, we recommend wood structures be thoroughly prepared before treatment. All joints between wall siding boards, window trim, door trim, corner boards, soffits, fascias, rake trim, vents, and naturally occurring hairline cracks in knots must be properly sealed with high quality caulking prior to treatment. We strongly recommend nail holes in all material types be filled prior to treatment. In order to deter knots from bleeding through your finish, pre-treat knots with a suitable product.
PAINT
-NOT INCLUDED-
When painting your shed, there are a few key areas that can easily be overlooked that must be painted:
Bottom edge of all siding and trim Inside of doors and all 4 edges.
• Smart Siding is a pre-primed material, see manufacturers recommended finishing:
MANUFACTURER'S FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
DO
Apply finish coat as soon as possible or within 30 days of application.
High-quality acrylic latex paint, specially formulated for use on wood and
engineered wood substrates, is highly recommended. Semi-gloss or satin finish oil or alkyd paints are acceptable.
DO NOT USE
Semi-transparent and transparent stains.
Shake and shingle paints.
Vinyl-based resin formulas such as vinyl acetate, PVA, vinyl acetate/
acrylic copolymer paints.

the 4x4 Runners be touching solid ground everywhere during this step. Being level is not yet a priority as we will level the structure after we get the floor assembled.

FLOOR LEVELING OPTIONS
There are multiple ways to level your floor frame. Our recommended leveling method is shown below.
NCLUDED LEVELING MATERIALS
I
•2 pcs - 2x6x6 Treated Wood Block
•2 pcs - 5/4x6x6 Treated Wood Block
•1 pcs - 4x8x16 Concrete Block
•2 pcs - 2x8x16 Concrete Block
•2 pcs - Asphalt Shingles (Can be cut into 4" strips as needed for spacing)
• Start by locating the most level ground in your preferred shed locations. This area must be a stable, solid, and dry location. Enough leveling materials have been included to level a shed up to 6" out of level.
• Find the high ground and work in a circle leveling and raising each corner as needed until you've worked back to the high corner.

LEVELING
Locate leveling material at the end of the runners.
Asphalt shingles should be used between blocks and frame lumber to fine-tune and
level frame. Never use shingles in direct contact with the ground.
Always work either clockwise or counter clockwise when leveling and blocking.
(Optional) For best results and aiding in water drainage you can use gravel under each concrete block.
NOTE: If you need more leveling materials you can b taps across the center of the block followed by one power blow in the center, repeat if needed until you get desired effect.
Note: If needed use a claw
Example:
hammer to remove dirt under the 4x4's and blocks to make them sit level.
rake Concrete Blocks in to two pieces. To do so tap 8-10 light to medium

The leveling of the deck is crucial to the successful building of the shed. If it is not perfectly level and flat the entire building will suffer.
Always support floor frame seams.
Note: If your shed location is more than 6" out of level you will either need to get more materials at your local hardware store or relocate the shed location. (Note it's not recommended to exceed 16" of leveling materials at one corner or side.

PREFERRED HANDLE INSTALLATION
Insert the handle into the hole from the outside with the
handle in the "unlocked" position. The escutcheon plate on the latch should be mounted so the long dimension is vertical to the shed. Secure the latch in place using the 1" screws provided.
Install the inside "D" handle onto the latch shaft using an
1/8" Allen wrench. The latch should be installed so there is no play between the back of the inside handle and the back of the door stop, located on the left door. When installing the handle, be sure the inside latch is being installed on the shaft so that it will latch on the left door when the outside handle is in the "locked position".

SPRING LATCH INSTALLATION
The spring latches should attach to the door stop on
the inside of the left door as you look at the door from the outside. Holes need to be drilled into the floor and header to make them functional.
Carefully secure the latches in place so its parallel to
door edge using the 1-1/2" screws provided.
Hold the spring latch pin down against the floor with
the end of the pin mated with the surface of the floor. Mark the floor by tapping the top of the pin with a hammer.
Carefully drill a 3/8" hole into the floor allowing the pin
to slide freely in and out of the drilled hole.
• Repeat process for the top spring latch, hole being drilled into door header.
TAP THE TOP OF THE SPRING LATCH PIN TO MAKE INDENTION IN FLOOR AND HEADER.

Post Installation FAQs
Shingles Aren’t Laying Flat
This is a normal condition. Please allow a minimum of (2) full weeks of temperatures above 60º F for shingles to seal.
Subfloor Sheathing
Small gaps between subfloor sheathing sheets are a normal aspect of construction. You may caulk gaps to fill and seal them if you wish. Floors may also be painted for additional protection and appearance. Consult with a professional paint and caulk supplier for recommendations.
Spring Latches Do Not Function Properly
Spring Latches can become misaligned due to building settling. The building can be re-leveled or adjustments can be made to the Spring Latches. To adjust, loosen all but (1) mounting screw and rotate it slightly until the latch pin is aligned with the hole, then re-install the screws.
My Door Handle Is Loose
The handle on the inside of your door may come loose over time. To tighten or re-install the handle, tighten the set screw onto the flat surface of the square shaft using an Allen wrench. A small amount of lubricant spray may help with a sticky lock.
Leveling Your Building
Your building is leveled but over time it may settle causing the doors to function improperly. Relevel structure as needed.
