Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Ayra WSM Junior fog machine. This small fog machine is the perfect party companion when you want to fill a room with fog to create a club atmosphere and enhance the beams projected by light effects. This user manual provides you with all the information you need to get the best out of the features this device has to offer.
Read this user manual before you set up the device and familiarise yourself with the product and its accessories. Also check the box contents to make sure the device has not been damaged and all accessories are included as they should.
If you encounter any problems during unpacking, installation or use, contact your local dealer for more information and help.
The WSM Junior is a compact fog machine which projects clouds of fog when desired. It is designed as a party effects machine and is mostly used in establishments like community centres, bars, dancing schools, roller skating rinks, bowling alleys etc.
The fog machine has a built-in fluid tank which needs to be filled with proper fog fluid in order to create the desired fog effect. Fluid from the tank is pumped into the heating system which then expands into a fog-like substance. The expansion causes the pressure to build until clouds of fog are expelled from the nozzle positioned at the front of the machine.
The WSM Junior uses water based fluids. Ayra recommends the use of Ayra fluids, which are available in various densities (light, medium, and heavy). Using fluids from other brands is not recommended as this may reduce the lifespan of the machine. In addition to this, fluids from other brands may cause unexpected results such as burning smells, unvapourised hot fluid expellation, etc.
The remote control is attached to a robust cable for safety reasons. This way it is possible to place the machine on the floor and still be able to control the output of the machine without bending over. LED indicators on the remote show if the machine is ready to produce fog.

Guidelines for fog machines
Fluid guidelines:
- Only use water-based fog liquids!
- Ayra recommends the use of Ayra fog machine fluid only. Other types of fog liquid may cause permanent damage or bad performance. When the wrong type of fog liquid is used, the machine might spray hot liquid.
- Always drain the fog fluid tank during transport, for example in its original jerrycan, bottle or container which can be closed properly. This is explained later on in the user manual.
Temperature guidelines:
- The fog machine requires a heat-up time. It is not directly ready for use when switched on.
- The temperature of the heating element is set in the factory. Do not attempt to change the set temperature of the device.
- The fog coming out of the fog machine is hot and moist at short distance. Keep animals, children, flammable objects and electronic devices away from the fog machine and its output for at least 50 centimeters.
- Do not store or move the product once it has just been shut off. The machine needs about 15 minutes to cool down properly. It may be possible that small amounts of fog are still expelled during the process of cooling down.
Ventilation and health guidelines:
- Always make sure that there is sufficient ventilation in the room. Fresh air needs to be able to enter the room and vaporized fog needs to be able to be drained from the room.
- Use caution with the amount of fog used. Only small amounts of fog are required to accentuate professional lighting and make the beams visible. Do not keep producing fog when the visibility drops below 2 meters.
- The use of fog is not hazardous for people or animals, if used with caution and proper ventilation. Do not use more fog than needed to achieve the desired effect.
- Producing high amounts of fog in crowded rooms, thus reducing visibility, can cause panic and disorientation among your audience and is therefore not recommended.
Exterior guidelines:
- Do not cover the housing or nozzle of the fog machine or place a tube over the nozzle.
- When using the fog machine in a standing or hanging position, do not adjust the vertical angle by more than 15% up or down. Doing otherwise may cause fluid to leak from the tank, into the device, causing short circuits.
- When used in a hanging position, the device always needs to be secured by using a safety cable. Attach the safety cable to the provided safety eye with the carabiner hook. A safety cable is not included in the

Preparing and installing the machine
Filling the machine
Ayra fluids are recommended for use with this machine. To fill the device with fog fluid, twist the fluid tank off by turning it counter-clockwise. Remove the cap from the tank, as well as the hose which is directly connected to the cap. These can rest next to the machine.
When filling up the tank, use a funnel to make sure no fog liquid is spilled inside the unit or on the floor, preventing dangerous situations. Fill the machine with the desired amount of fluid, but do not exceed the ‘max fluid’ level as shown on the device. Doing so will cause the fluid tank to overflow and spill fluid into the machine or on the floor, causing dangerous situations.
Once the fluid tank has been filled with the desired amount of fluid, insert the hose back into the tank and ensure that the hose end hits the bottom of the tank. This will make sure that the fog machine will still work properly on a low fluid level. Tighten the fluid tank cap by turning it clockwise and make sure it is hand tightened properly.
The hose is equipped with a fluid filter, preventing any form of dirt, dust or sand entering the fluid system of the machine and causing clogging or damage. Do not remove the filter as it will not increase the output capacity of the machine and has no other benefits.
Empty or near empty tank while in use
If the fog machine is going to be used intensively for a while, for example because it will be used in a big venue, the fluid level has to be monitored every half hour. This is necessary to ensure that the fluid tank will not be completely dry and the machine will not suck air into the pump and heating system for a longer period of time. If this happens anyway for any reason, the lifespan of the device will be reduced drastically. Damage caused by dry use of the machine will not be covered by warranty.
Filling the machine during a performance is possible, as long as the device is shut down with the power switch and the power connector is removed from its socket. If for any reason fluid is spilled into the device, there will not be a live short circuit. Short circuits can be very dangerous, causing electrical shocks, as well as causing other equipment on the same electronic circuit to shut down.
Please beware that during filling of the fluid tank, the housing of the device may still be hot and should not be touched. The fog machine tank can be filled by following the procedure as described above in section ‘Filling the machine’. Once the tank is filled and the cover has been closed, the device must be checked on fluid spills. If for any reason fluid has been spilled into the machine, it can not be used any more and must be inspected by a skilled technician before it will be reconnected to a power outlet.
Once you are sure that no fluid has spilled or leaked into the device, the power connector can be inserted back into its socket and the device can be turned on again. As the heating element has not been cooling down completely, the required time to heat the machine back up will be less than usual.
Installing the system in a standing position
The WSM Junior is mainly used for party lighting enhancement and can be placed directly on a flat surface such as a table, floor or bar. Placement on the floor is recommended, but please beware that the housing may become as hot as 56.4 degrees Celsius. Placement on certain kinds of carpet and similar surfaces is therefore not recommended. Please ensure that the device is positioned safely and the power cord is installed properly. Accidents may happen if the power cord is hanging freely and can be pulled by small children, which causes the device to fall down. Install the device securely and contact your local dealer or a skilled technician for the best installation advice for permanent and mobile setups.
Installing the fixture in a hanging position
The WSM Junior is equipped with an installation bracket which makes it possible to install the device to a ceiling, or beam. Mounting hardware is not included but should be available at your local hardware store. Please ensure that the right mounting hardware is selected for the material. For example: wooden beams require different hardware than a brick wall.
The information and illustrations shown in this user manual are subject to change without notice.
User manual version: 2.0 Creation date + author initials: 03-11-2015 RV Revision date + author initials: 02-03-2017
Page 11
The WSM Junior can also be installed to a lighting stand or truss system. It may be necessary to install clamps or couplers to the device in order to ensure a secure attachment. The device is equipped with an eye bolt for a safety cable.
If the device is installed in a hanging position, the device must be secured with a safety cable. If the primary mounting hardware fails for any reason, the device should not be able to fall more than 30 cm and the safety cable should be able to hold 10x the weight of the unit.
The device should not be installed in a hanging position when the surroundings of the machine are publicly accessible.
Powering the unit
To activate the unit, connect the power cable to a suitable power outlet and turn on the power switch, positioned on the rear of the device.
Now the heating element of the machine will heat up until the necessary working temperature has been reached. This may take up to 5 minutes.
The remote control will show if the device is ready to produce fog. If the machine is ready, LEDs on the remote control will light up. When pressing and holding the button on the remote control, the pump will extract liquid from the tank and pump it through the heating system, producing fog.
It may be possible that the machine does not instantly produce fog, especially if the machine is used for the first time. The machine has been tested in the factory, after testing it has been drained so the fog liquid is removed from the system. When using the machine for the first time, press and hold the remote button when the machine is ready to produce fog. Some noise from the fog machine pump may be noticeable as it will run without fluid for a short while, but this will not harm the components. Gradually, fog clouds will begin to appear from the fog nozzle, which will increase each second.
When the fog machine has reached the correct temperature, it can be used continuously for around 1 minute. After this, the LED light on the remote will turn off, the machine will reheat the heating element and it will not be possible to generate any fog until the light turns back on.
Fog machine nozzle
The fog machine nozzle on the front of the machine makes sure that the generated fog can be expelled from the unit. As the generated fog has recently been in contact with the heating system and is expelled under pressure, it can be very hot on short distance, able to cause burn injuries when touched. Therefore, make sure that the distance between the fog machine nozzle and any person, animal or object is at least 50 cm.
Shutting down the device
If you already know beforehand that you are not going to generate any fog any more and the party or similar event is finishing in 10 to 20 minutes, you can already switch the fog machine off by flipping the power switch. The device will turn off, cool down and can not be used to generate fog any more. This decreases the amount of time you will have to wait to be able to move or transport the device when your party has ended.
It may be possible that small puffs of fog still exit the nozzle of the machine, even if it has been turned off for a short while. This is perfectly normal because there is still some fluid left in the heating circuit.
Please beware that it will take some time for the fog machine to cool down properly. It is not recommended to touch or move the fog machine when it has not been cooling down for at least 20 minutes.
Spare parts
This unit has no user-serviceable parts inside. When any damage to internal components occurs, contact your local dealer or a specialised technician in order to repair the fixture.
Cleaning:
Clean the housing of the fixture frequently with a damp cloth, to remove dust and/or dirt. The machine must be cooled down, turned off and removed from any power source when doing so.
The information and illustrations shown in this user manual are subject to change without notice.

Page 12
WARNING: Always disconnect the fixture from your wall outlet or other power supply and let the fixture dry before reconnecting it. This prevents possible electric shocks.
Check-up
To prevent dangerous situations, make sure your fixture is in optimal condition before using it. Check your fixture frequently by using the following check list:
- All screws must be mounted tightly.
- Check all screws and metal parts for corrosion. No visible corrosion should be present.
- The exterior of your fixture must be in optimal condition. Check your fixture for dents, cracks or missing parts.
- The area in which the fog machine will be used or mounted must be in optimal condition. Check this installation spot for corrosion, cracks, dents and strength.
- Electrical components (connectors and cables) must be in optimal condition. No form of damage (cuts, exposed wire cores or any other irregularities) should be visible.
If any visual or mechanical damage is detected, contact your local dealer or a specialised technician. Do not use a damaged or failing fixture.
Storage for a longer period of time
If the machine will not be used for a longer period of time (1 month or longer), the fluid needs to be drained from the machine to prevent clogging of the system.
When the machine is still turned on, but about to be shut down, twist the cap off the fluid tank and remove the hose from the tank, so it is hanging from the device and not in the tank any more. By pressing the fog button, the remaining fluid which is still in the fog machine system will be evaporated from the nozzle. When the fog output reduces drastically while pushing the fog button and hearing an increase of noise from the pump, stop producing fog and shut the device down immediately. This to prevent damage to the heating element and pump.
The fog machine can cool down for the recommended 20 minutes. After this, carefully check if the fog machine cooled off enough to hold it with your hands. If so, the fog machine fluid in the tank can be drained by pouring the fluid from the built-in tank back into the jerrycan, bottle or container it originally shipped in.
When the machine will be used again, fill the fluid tank with fluid as usual. Power up the machine and wait until the machine is ready to fog. The corresponding light on the remote will indicate this.
