PREPARING THE BLANKS, HINTS & TIPS

Preparing a wooden or acrylic/polyester
blank.
This kit allows you to make the handle as
long or as short you wish.
Add a 12mm allowance for turning the
tenons on each end plus waste when
parting off.
1. Cut a blank to length, squaring off the
ends.
2. Mark the centre on the end of the blank.
TURNING THE BLANK, HINTS & TIPS
1. Mount the blank between centres.
2. Turn to a cylinder
Use a pencil to mark the length of
your handle plus 6mm at each end for
attaching the Lens and End Cap (if using
the End Cap).
3. Using sharp tools, turn the blank to the
profile of your choice.
Note: the outer diameter of the handle
ferrule is a fraction under 16mm
(measured at 15.88mm) and the outer
diameter of the end cap a fraction under
15mm (measured at 14.92mm)
4. At each end turn a tenon a smidge
under 12mm diameter x 6mm long
5. Sand and polish using your preferred
finish.
6. Part off each end.
ASSEMBLY, HINTS & TIPS
1. Use epoxy or CA adhesive to attach the
Lens and End Cap to your handle.
Tips/Hints
• Don’t be afraid to sharpen frequently
especially when turning acrylics.
