ToaccesstheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongureRoot Passworddialog,whichopenswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.

Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage50.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

Axis’ZipstreamTechnologyisabitratereductiontechnologyoptimizedforvideosurveillance.Zipstreamreducestheaveragebitrate intheH.264streambyremovingunnecessarydataandmakesitpossibletoallowhigherresolutions,reducestoragecostor tokeeprecordingsforalongertime.

Toreducethebitrate,Zipstreamreducesthenumberofbitsintheareasoftheimagethatarelessinterestingfromavideo surveillanceperspective,forexamplethebackground.Imagedetailsthatareimportantforforensicvideoanalysis,forexamplefaces andlicenseplates,arepreservedwithenoughnumberofbits.

Axis’ZipstreamTechnologyforH.264conformstotheH.264standardandiscompatiblewiththird-partyclientsandVMSsolutions thatdecodeH.264video.

Recommendeduseofbitratereduction

Zipstreamoffersanumberofbitratereductionpresets,fromLowtoExtreme.Lowbitratereductionisenabledbydefaultandis safetouseinallapplicationswhilestillreducingthebitrate.

Forcloud-connectedcamerasorcamerasusingedgestoragethatneedtolimitthebitrateforincreasedstoragetimeitis recommendedtoselecttheExtremebitratereduction.Thissettingissuitabletocombinewithmotiondetectiontriggeringand variablebitrate(VBR)wherethebitrateisallowedtoadapttochangesincomplexityinthescene.
