AXISDigitalAutotrackingisanapplicationthatallowsthecameratodiscoveramovingobject,suchasapersonoravehicle,zoomin
ontheobjectandfollowitwithinthecamera’srangeofcoverage.Autotrackingcontinuesuntilthemovingobjectstopsordisappears
fromthecamera’seldofview.Theapplicationismostsuitableinenvironmentswheremovementisunusual(lowtrafcareas)and
couldindicateunwantedactivity,suchasschools,shoppingcenterparkingareasandofcebuildingsafteropeninghours.AXIS
DigitalAutotrackingallowsefcient,motion-triggeredmonitoringwhilesavingonbandwidthanddiskspace.

Digitalautotrackingdiffersfrommechanicalautotrackinginthatthecameraviewisadaptedtoincludealldetectedmoving
objects.Mechanicalautotracking,whichisavailableinsomePTZcameras,locksonasingleobjectandfollowsthatobjectuntilthe
objectisoutsidethecamera’srangeofcoverage.

ApplicationOverview

AXISDigitalAutotrackingdetectsobjectsmovinginthecamera’seldofview.Whenamovingobjectisdetected,theapplication
usesoneoftheproduct’sviewareastozoominonandtracktheobject.Whiletracking,theapplicationcontinuestodetectother
movingobjectsinthecamera’seldofview.Ifasecondmovingobjectisdetected,theviewareaisadaptedtoincludeallmoving
objects.Trackingcontinuesuntilallobjectshavestoppedordisappearedfromthecamera’seldofview.

Theapplicationdetectsmovingobjectsintheentireeldofview.Toavoiddetectingmovingtrees,ags,cloudsandsimilar,lters
canbeset.Movementinareasblockedbyprivacymasksisalwaysignored.

Whenconguringtheapplication,aviewareatobeusedforautotrackingiscreatedautomatically.Thisviewareaiscalled“Digital
AutotrackingView”andhasaresolutionof640x480.Ifrequired,theresolutioncanbechangedorauser-denedviewareacan
beused.NotethatPTZmustbeenabledintheviewareausedforautotrackingandthattheviewarea’saspectratioshouldnot
bechanged;ifusingauser-denedviewareamakesuretokeeptheviewarea’sdefaultaspectratio.Themaximumzoomlevelis
automaticallyadaptedtotheviewarearesolution.

AXISDigitalAutotrackingcanbeusedwhileaguardtourisrunning.Theguardtourwillbestoppedtemporarilywhendigital
autotrackingstartsandwillresumewhenautotrackingstops.Manualpan/tilt/zoomoperations,forexampleusingajoystick
ormouse,haveprecedenceoverautotracking.

TheAxisproductcanbeconguredtoperformactions,forexamplerecordvideoorsendanoticationmessage,whenautotracking
startsorstops.SeeUsingtheApplicationinanActionRule,onpage6.

ItisnotrecommendedtorunAXISDigitalAutotrackingatthesametimeasotherapplicationsorthecamera’sbuilt-inmotion
detection.

Requirements

AXISDigitalAutotrackingcanbeinstalledinAxisnetworkcamerasthatsupportviewareasandAXISCameraApplicationPlatform.
Gotowww.axis.com/applicationsformoreinformation.Theapplicationcanbeinstalledonproductswithrmware5.50andlater.

AXISDigitalAutotrackingisintendedforxedcameraswithmegapixelresolutions.Theapplicationdoesnotrequireanylicense.

UploadApplication

TouploadtheapplicationtotheAxisproduct,followtheseinstructions:

1.Downloadtheapplicationfromwww.axis.com/applications

2.GotoSetup>Applicationsintheproduct’swebpages.

3.UnderUploadApplication,clickBrowse,locatetheapplicationleandthenclickUploadPackage.

TheapplicationwillappearunderInstalledApplicationsontheApplicationspageandunderOverviewinthemenu.

Aviewareatobeusedforautotrackingiscreatedautomaticallywhenconguringtheapplication.Thisviewareaiscalled“Digital
AutotrackingView”andhasaresolutionof640x480.Tochangetheresolution,gotoVideo&Audio>VideoStream>Digital
AutotrackingView.

StartandStoptheApplication

Tostarttheapplication,selectitintheInstalledApplicationslistontheApplicationspageandclickStart.

Tostoptheapplication,selectitinthelistandclickStop.

DigitalAutotrackingSettings

AXISDigitalAutotrackingmustbestartedandconguredbeforeuse.Theapplicationcanbeconguredwheninrunningoridlestatus.

ThePreviewWindowcanbeusedtoconrmthattheapplicationdetectsandtracksmovingobjectsasintended.

Toconguretheapplication,followthesesteps.

1.GotoApplications>Overview.

2.SelecttheapplicationandclickStart.

3.GotoApplications>DigitalAutotracking>Settings.

4.ClickthelinkAXISDigitalAutotrackingSettings.

5.Ifviewareassettingisdisabled,clickEnableViewAreas.

6.OntheViewAreatab,selecttheviewareatouseforautotracking.

7.Optionally,setupSwayingobjectsuppression,seeSwayingobjectsuppression.

8.Optionally,setuponeormoreexcludeareas,seeExcludeAreas.

9.Whensatised,clickSavetosavesettings.

Swayingobjectsuppression

Usethisltertominimizeundesiredtrackingwhenswayingobjectssuchasagsandtrees,orshadowsthereof,arepresentin
thecamera’seldofview.

Thelteranalyzeseachdetectedobject’straveleddistancerelativetothecamera’seldofview,todetermineifitshouldbe
ignoredduringtracking.

Important

Atypicalinitialltersettingisrecommendedtobe30%.Continuetoadjustthelterinstepsof10%tondasuitablelevel
ofsuppression.Filtersettingsabove75%willsignicantlydelaythetrackingofmovingobjects.

Altervalueof100%impliesthatadetectedobjecthastotravel,fromitsinitialpoint,onethirdoftheimagewidthorheight
beforebeingtracked.

Altervalueof50%implieshalfthatdistance,thusrequiringtheobjecttotraveladistanceofonesixthoftheimagewidthor
heightbeforebeingtracked.

Altervalueof0%disablesthelterandthecamerawilltrackalldetectedobjectsincludingswayingobjects.

Note

Whenthelterisactive,trackingwillbedelayeduntilanobjectmeetstheltercriteria.

ExcludeAreas

Anexcludeareaisanareawheremovingobjectsareignored.Theexcludeareaisapolygondenedby3–10points.

Tosetupanexcludearea,followthesesteps:

1.GotoApplications>DigitalAutotracking>Settings.

2.ClickthelinkAXISDigitalAutotrackingSettings.

3.SelecttheExcludeAreastabandclickAdd.

4.Enteranamefortheareaandselectthenumberofpolygonpoints.

5.ClickCreatearea.

6.Theexcludeareaisplacedinthecenteroftheimage.Usethemousetomoveandresizethearea.

7.Whensatisedwiththeexcludearea’sposition,clickSave.

Note

Polygonswith3and5–10cornersareonlyavailablewhenusingAXISMediaControl(AMC)andInternetExplorer.

Todisableanexcludearea,selecttheareainthelistandclickEnable/Disable.Ifanexcludeareaisdisabled,movingobjects
willbedetectedinthearea.

UsingtheApplicationinLiveView

AXISDigitalAutotrackingcanbeusedforlivemonitoring.

1.OpentheLiveViewpageinabrowser.

2.FromtheSourcelist,selecttheviewareausedforautotracking.ThedefaultviewareaisDigitalAutotrackingView.

UsingtheApplicationinanActionRule

Usingactionrules,theAxisproductcanbeconguredtoperformactionssuchasrecordvideoorsendanoticationwhenthe
applicationisactive.

Tosetupanactionrule,followthesesteps

1.GotoEvents>ActionRulesandclickAdd.

2.SelectEnableruleandenteradescriptivenamefortherule.
