Connecting the Printer to the Network AXIS 5470e/570/670e User’s Guide
Connecting the Printer to the Network
Follow the instructions below to connect your printer to the network:
1. Switch off the printer and disconnect the AXIS 5470e/570/670e external power supply.
2. Locate the serial number, found on the underside label of the AXIS 5470e/570/670e, and write it down. You will need this number during the network configuration.
Note:
Each AXIS 5470e/570/670e is pre-configured with a unique node address that is identical to its serial number.
3. AXIS 5470e - Connect the AXIS 5470e to your printer, either directly to the parallel printer port, or using the optional printer cable extension with the optional velcro ribbons. AXIS 570/670e - Connect the printer to the LPT1, LPT2 or the COM1 port on your AXIS 570/670e using an appropriate printer cable.
4. Conn ect your AXIS 5470e/570/670e to the network using an appropriate network cable. If you are connecting the AXIS 5470e to a Fast Ethernet network, the twiste d pai r cabl e must be of category 5 or better.
5. Switch on the printer and connect the external power supply to the AXIS 5470e/570/670e. The power indicator lights up. If the network indicator starts to flash, the AXIS 5470e/570/670e is correctly connected to the network.
6. Press and release the test button on the AXIS 5470e/570 /670e to print a test pag e. If the AXIS 5470e/570/670e is correctly connected to the printer, the AXIS 5470e/570/670e internal test page will be printed.
AXIS 5470e/570/670e User’s Guide Assigning an IP address
Assigning an IP address
To establish communication with the TCP / IP network, an IP Address must be assigned to your AXIS 5470e/570/670e. Choose an appropriate method from the table below:
Server Platform Availability Comments
UNIX Windows
ARP
RARP BOOTP DHCP AXIS IP
Installer
Note:
X X X Downloads the IP Address to each device automatically
X Similar to RARP, although can operate on the entire network. X X Automatic but temporary assignment of IP address from a central pool.
X
Refer to Setting the IP address, on page 37, for setting the IP address in the Macintosh environment.
Requires the IP address for each new device to be downloaded individually. Cannot be used over routers.
An Axis software tool that sets the IP address of each device. AXIS IP Installer is available on the AXIS Product CD.
9
All methods are enabled by default. This means that if you have a DHCP server running on your network, the AXIS 5470e/570/670e will receive its IP address immediately after you have connected it to the network.
As the ARP command is available in all supported environments, it is described in detail in the table below. Refer to the AXIS 5470e/570/670e User’s Manual for a comprehensive description of the other methods.
