1
Have the following materials on hand for the installation
of the Plex Antenna:
Ÿ RG-58/U coaxial cable with 50 ohm impedance (nominal),
solid copper center conductor, 55% tinned copper braid
or better, 100% shield coverage (i.e. Belden 9310) of
sufficient length to reach the Activator. The maximum
recommended cable length is 50 feet.
Ÿ Two three-piece crimp type male BNC connectors
Ÿ Three-blade rotary coaxial cable stripper
Ÿ Step ladder for positioning the Plex Antenna above the
door or ceiling
To ensure proper system operation, do not substitute
antenna kit components.

Determine the approximate installation site of the Plex Antenna
and its associated Activators. Use the following guidlines:
Ÿ The Activator should be located no more than 50 feet
Ÿ The Plex Antenna's field is affected by metal; therefore,

(cable length) from the Plex Antenna.
Choose the mounting position best suited for the
desired coverage area and application.
(See diagram below)
the Antenna should be located at least 4 inches from
any metal including metal studs.
Before permanently installing the Plex Antenna, lay out
and test the entire ActiveTag system.
Check with all local inspection codes, including building,
fire and electrical, to ensure compliance of the Plex

Plex Antenna
(Mounted on wall - flat or angled)
(Mounted 3 inches below ceiling)
Set Up & Installation
Ÿ Orient the Plex Antenna so that the radiation field provides maximum
coverage of the desired area. Keep in mind what will be tracked
with the antenna - personnel will carry Tags in their shirt or pants
pocket, Tags on laptops will be carried closer to the floor.
Type Range Model
Thin 6 to 8 feet with Personnel Tag AT-132-A-PT
Wide 2 to 3 feet above floor with Asset Tag AT-132-A-PW
6 to 8 feet with a Vehicle Tag
Overhead 6 to 8 feet with Asset Tag AT-132-A-PO
8 to 10 feet with Personnel Tag

Step 5: Cycle the power of the Activator in order for the antenna's
auto-tune feature to function.
Check the strength of the TX Output LEDs located on the
!!
front panel. A minimum of 4 lit LEDs is desired.

Step 6: Position the antenna in its approximate final location - but
do not permanently install it at this time. Have someone
hold the antenna in various positions until the desired
coverage is acheived.
Step 7: Test the system by positioning the LED Test Tag at strategic
points to ensure complete coverage including mounting it to
assets. It will light up and flash when it is within the field.

Test each position. Tilting the Plex Antenna may also improve
performance.
If mounting the Plex Antenna on the ceiling, mount it flat with the
front of the antenna facing the floor.
