Knowing your microphone
Superlux provides variety selection of microphones for professionals and amatures. To know your microphone is the first step to successful result.
Type of transducer
Condenser
Ex trem ely li ght we igh t d iap hra gm, ve ry sensit ive to sound. Ver y sm all ve rsio ns av ail abl e f or h idi ng appl ica tio ns. Hi gh pe rfor manc e c onde nser mi crop hones are regarded as standard equip ment of recording studios for extreme detail capturing . Operates with power, such as pha ntom or batter y.
Dynamics
Durable and simpl e structure, o perates in al l kin ds o f environme nts. A go od d ynam ic microphone is ca pable to operate at v ery high sound pressure level without distorti on. Due to structure lim it, dyn amics can not be built as small as condenser, but dynamic s
doesn require power to operate.
About Frequency Response
Flat
Suitable fo r working at controlle d environment, or fo r acousti c measurements. Al though pe ople persuit flatnes s, but for non e-professio nals, it is a challenge to makes it works as exp ectation.
Variable response
Incorporating switchable fil ters to elliminates interference, such as sub-sonic filter to cut a irconditioner and floor vibration s. And all ows full flat when used in controlled environment.
Popular curve response
Based on years o f pr actical experi ence of pro users. The re are curves to be bu ild for var ious applications, so that i t is very simple to use th e mi cr op ho ne for t he p urp os e. L imi ti ng bandwidth, and emphasing are typical skil l.
Directivity
Cardioid
Picks up most sign al on axis. Rejects side and picks up le ast to the back. Suitable for live sound re-inforceme nt. Apparent proximit y effect and most sing er l ikes to take this bass boost advantages which is not good for s peech.
Super Cardioid
Narrower t han c ardioid patt ern. Suitab le fo r multi ple mic rophone setup . Least sens itive angle point ing t oward side to rea r whe re most
Mounting the microphone
Pressure gra dient microph one is v ery s ensitive to vi bration. Sui table shock mo unt for hig h performance microph one is necessary for extrem e low n oise recording. Sturdy stand can set the microphone excatly at the sweet spot and k eep it there. Choose heavy duty microphone stand for studio condenser microphone which weigh ts much more than h andle microph one.
Superlux provides wide range of microphone stands for va rious deman ds. Big Foot Willie is specially developed for large condenser microphones that able to support 2 large microphon es w ith stereo bracket for single point stereo recording.
Extension foot on al l th e 'E' versi ons serve to mo unt h eavy studio microphone i n limi t spa ce l ive sound applications.
Maintainence
Condenser micro phone shal l be kept in low humidity env ironment fo r best so und performance. St ore the conden ser microphones in airconditioned room or dehumidifier to keep away form moi sture. Clean air is another importan t factor. Keep awa y from smoking en vironment t o avoid tar residuals.
