Please note that the upgrade is only possible from version 6.x to 7.
An upgrade from an older version is not possible.

Please note that a restart of the server is necessary after the uninstallation
of version 6.x during an upgrade.

Why is there no upgrade installation path?
e directory structure has changed in version 7.x. e installation paths have changed and had to be adjusted.
e program path
\Programs\H+BEDV\AntiVir Exchange\
has been replaced by the path
\Programs\Avira\AntiVir Exchange\
It is necessary to uninstall the previously installed version of Avira AntiVir Exchange to make this change.
Once it has been uninstalled, version 7.x can be installed.
What do I have to consider when uninstalling?
1. Because of the required uninstallation of version 6.x, the content in the quarantine directories will become invalid. is means that emails in the quarantine are not migrated!
2. e license file can in some instances be deleted when uninstalling. e license file needs to be stored
before uninstalling to prevent this.
3. e existing configuration can be deleted when uninstalling. Store the configuration in a separate directory before starting to uninstall.
4. e stored license file and the stored configuration have to be imported after the reinstallation.

Please ignore the file oem.lic. is file doesn‘t need to be saved and mailed back! e Avira AntiVir Exchange license file is named HBEDV.KEY. Please copy the license file HBEDV.KEY into a directory of your
choice. e license file HBEDV.KEY can be found at
Installation drive\Programs\H+BEDV\AntiVir Exchange\License\

e Avira AntiVir Exchange configuration file is named ConfigData.XML. Please copy this configuration
file into a directory of your choice. e configuration file ConfigData.xml can be found at

Uninstallation of Avira AntiVir Exchange, version 6.x
You are now free to uninstall the application Avira AntiVir Exchange through the software manager of the
operating system.
Please open the software manager and go to the option “change” in AntiVir Exchange Server 2000/2003.
Please follow the indications in the following dialogue.

Please make sure you have activated the option “delete all user and registration data” in the dialogue,
before you continue. Please restart the server now
in order to finish the uninstallation correctly.

Installation of the new Avira AntiVir Exchange, version 7.x
e prior version 6.x is now uninstalled. You can now start installing version 7.x. When performing the
installation, you will see that the installation path has changed in the dialogue.
e new installation path now begins with \Avira\AntiVir Exchange\
Confirm the dialogues as requested during the installation.

Creation of the new configuration file during the installation
During the installation you will be asked to choose the configuration data.
You have to create a new configuration for version
7.x, as you don‘t have an existing one. Please use the
option “create new local configuration”.
Below is the path that refers to the configuration
file.
Installation drive:\Programs\Avira\AntiVir Exchange\Config\ConfigData.xml
Please take account of the new installation path for
the virus scanner that might be installed on your
system. Please adjust the scanner to the new paths.

After completing the installation and after starting the services of Avira AntiVir Exchange, it can happen
that you obtain an error message in the event log that there is no valid license available. Please check the
event log for this!
Please proceed as follows to solve this problem.
Please check in your event viewer if there is an entry called “error” under “application” in the source “avexs”
and the category “License Manager”. is message is correct for the time being as you haven’t copied any
license file into the license directory.
Reloading the license file
Do you remember that the license file (HBEDV.KEY) and the AntiVir Exchange configuration file (ConfigData.xml) were stored? You should now copy them back to the corresponding directories.
Start with the license file, which is copied from your storage place into the directory listed below. e license directory is now called:

As you can see, the file HBEDV.
KEY is missing in this directory. Please copy the license file
HBEDV.KEY from where you
have stored it into the above directory. Please select the correct
path, in case you have changed
the installation path during installation.
Once you have copied the license file, your license directory should look the same as in the following
screenshot.
Please copy the license file
HBEDV.KEY into the corresponding directory and keep
the file oem.lic as shown in the
screenshots. Please don‘t delete
or replace this file!

You should restart the AntiVir Exchange services, in order to inform Avira AntiVir Exchange immediately
that there is a license file. Open the service manager of your operating system and search for the service
“AntiVir for Exchange Control”.
Please choose the function “restart” for this service. You will obtain a message saying that the service
“AntiVir for Exchange” has to be closed as well. Please confirm this with “Yes”.
If you check the event viewer after restarting the AntiVir Exchange services, there shouldn‘t be any error
message regarding the license manager.

Copying the configuration file
You can now copy the stored configuration file into the corresponding path.

Close the AntiVir Exchange Console (if it’s open).
u
Please copy the configuration file (ConfigData.xml) from where you‘ve stored it into the following
folder
Installation drive:\Programs\Avira\AntiVir Exchange\Config\
u
Overwrite the file included in this directory.
u
Open the AntiVir Exchange Management Console.
u
A message appears saying that the new configuration has been found from version 6.x
and that it is possible to convert it now.
u
Confirm this message with “YES”.
u
Now your configuration of version 6.x has been converted into version 7.x.
e installation process is now complete. Please check, if your jobs and configurations were imported correctly.
