Chapter 2: Installing AO16
Mounting screws (remove all)
Faceplate
This chapter provides information on installing the AO16 card
in the following VENUE Hardware:
• Mix Rack (see “Installing in Mix Rack” on page 3)
• SC48 (see “Installing in SC48” on page 4)
• Stage 48 (See “Installing in Stage 48” on page 6)
Installing in Mix Rack
In the base configuration of Mix Rack, output slot D contains
an AO16 card. Mix Rack supports up to a total of two AO16
cards. These instructions show how to install an AO16 card in
slot E of Mix Rack.
If you are replacing an AO16 card, you must first remove
one of the cards. See the Venue Service Guide for instructions on removing cards.
To install an AO16 card in Mix Rack:
1 Shut down the VENUE system, and turn off power to the
Mix Rack.
2 Disconnect all cables from Mix Rack.
3 Remove Mix Rack’s front panel cover by unscrewing its
mounting screws (#1 Phillips).
4 On the back panel of Mix Rack, locate the output slot (as
noted in Figure 2 below) and remove the card slot cover.
Figure 2. Output slot E on the Mix Rack back panel
5 Remove the card from its packing material. Hold the card by
its edges.
6 Gently slide the card into the empty slot and secure it to the
rack using the four mounting screws.

7 Inside the rack (via the open front panel), tighten the captive
thumbscrews to secure the card to the rack’s chassis.

open front panel. Input and output cards are connected to the
five 50-pin ribbon cable ports aligned vertically on the right
side of the Hub 48 card, as shown in Figure 3.
Do not disconnect or re-seat the ribbon cable connections
on the Hub 48 card while the card is installed in the Mix
Rack. This may cause excessive flexing of the Hub 48 card.

bon cable socket on the A016 card. Make sure the plastic key
on the connector is aligned with the slot on the socket. Secure
the connection by moving the retaining clips on each side of
the socket connector inward. Check to make sure the ribbon
cable is connected securely.

ing and Confirming Installation for Mix Rack and SC48” on
page 5.
Installing in SC48
SC48 has two available output card slots, slots D and E. A standard SC48 console ships with one AO16 card installed in slot
D. A second AO16 can be installed in slot E of the console.
9 Find the ribbon cable connected to the top I/O card ribbon
cable port, as noted in Figure 4. The other end of the cable is
unconnected.

To install an AO16 card in SC48
1 Shut down your system, and turn off power to the SC48.
2 Disconnect any power cables from the SC48, as well as any
other audio cables that may get in your way.
3 On the back panel of the SC48, locate output slot E.

4 Remove the four screws holding the card slot cover in place.
You can use a flathead screwdriver to pry the cover away from
the output slot after removing the screws.
Use care when prying away the card slot cover. The ribbon
cable that you connect to the output card is attached to the
inside of the card slot cover.
Keep the screws nearby for securing the card to the SC48.

Completing and Confirming
Installation for Mix Rack and SC48
To complete and confirm installation:
1 Reconnect power and any audio cables to your system.
2 Turn o n you r syst em.
3 In VENUE, go Option > Devices tab view your system hard-
ware status. The newly installed AO16 Card should be displayed.

Stage 48 has three slots that accept Stage I/O cards. I/O cards
are connected to pre-installed 50-pin ribbon cables located inside Stage 48.
I/O cards can be installed in any slot of Stage 48, in any order.
If you are installing a combination of input and output cards,
however, it is recommended that you install input cards above
output cards.
It is recommended that you install cards in Stage 48 starting
with the top slot. If you are installing a combination of input
and output cards in one Stage 48, it is recommended that you
install input cards above output cards.
To install I/O cards in Stage 48:
1 Power down Stage 48.
2 Remove power and audio cables from Stage 48.
3 On the front panel of Stage 48, locate the slots which you
want to install I/O cards into, and remove the card slot covers.
5 Carefully pull the panel partially away from the rack, making
sure not to damage the fan cable attached to the back panel.

11 Inside Stage 48 via the open back panel, tighten the two
captive thumbscrews to secure the I/O card to the Stage 48
chassis. Use a screwdriver to make sure the card is properly secured.
14 Use the following cables, depending on the slots you have
chosen to install cards into:
• For a card installed in the top slot of Stage 48, use the cable that is labeled in Figure 19 as “1.”
• For a card installed in the middle slot, use the cable that
is labeled in Figure 19 as “2.”
• For a card installed the bottom slot, use the cable that is
labeled in Figure 19 as “3.”

15 Connect the cable to the I/O card by making sure the plastic
key on the connector is aligned with the slot on the port. Secure the connection by moving the retaining clips on each side
of the socket connector inward. Check to make sure the ribbon
cable is connected securely.
