Theory of Operation
The ST-LCR 2 Logic-Controlled Relay is part of a contact closure circuit. In the AirPlay MP AFRTS conÞguration, the relay converts a
momentary closure from a Wegner tone decoder to a steady closure.
This circuit controls a Grass Valley Group Performer¨ switcher. The
circuit enables a central, remote network site to send Network Override and Return to Normal (return to local programming) commands
to the switcher. The override occurs at the most downstream point of
the Avid-supplied equipment.
When the Performer switcher receives a Network Override command,
the switcher output changes to a preselected Network input. The
switcher stays at this Network position until it receives a Return to
Normal command.

2Network Override Kit
While the switcher plays the Network input, AirPlay MP continues to
process its current playlist normally (including the use of arming windows), even though it is not playing on the air. AirPlay MP also continues to send switcher commands to the Performer switcher. Because
of the Override condition, the switcher does not execute these commands, but it keeps track of the latest one it receives. When the
switcher receives a Return to Normal command from the Wegner tone
decoder, it switches to the output position speciÞed in the last command it received from AirPlay MP.
n
Requirements
The extra contacts in the relay provide a positive positioning system. When
the contacts are in the closed position, the Return to Normal trigger causes
the relay to go to or to stay in the normal position. When the contacts are
open, the Return to Normal trigger has no effect. This ensures that the result
of a Return to Normal command is always the normal position.

Installation
c
Be sure the power supply is disconnected before you begin.
To install the ST-LCR 2 relay:
1. Find a convenient place to locate the ST-LCR 2 Logic-Controlled
Relay, illustrated in Figure 1. The relay should be near the termination of the cable from the Performer Tally/Override connector,
and it must be within 5 feet of an electrical outlet.
Figure 1ST-LCR1/2 Logic Controlled Relay
2. Connect a wire from pin 14 (+5 VDC), from the Tally/Override
cable or its punchdown position, to the normally open position on
the Þrst set of contacts, as shown in Figure 2.
3. Connect a wire from the correct override position (see Table 1),
from the Tally/Override cable or its punchdown position, to the
armature connector of the same set of contacts used in step 2.
4. Connect a wire from one connection of the Wegner Network Override contacts to the relay 24 VDC power supply positive input, as
shown in Figure 2. Connect a wire from the other connection of
the Wegner Network Override contacts to the 24 VDC relay actuate input, as shown in Figure 2.
5. Connect a jumper between the normally open connector of the
second set of contacts and the relay +5 VDC actuate input of the
ST-LCR 2, as shown in Figure 2.
6. Connect a wire from the armature connector of the second set of
contacts to one of the connections of the Wegner Return to Normal
contacts, as shown in Figure 2.
7. Connect a wire from the Avid GPI pin 34 (+5 VDC) Ñ from the
GPI cable or its punchdown position Ñ to the other connection on
the Wegner Return to Normal contacts, as shown in Figure 2.
8. Connect a wire from the Avid GPI pin 33 (GND) to the actuate
ground input of the relay, as shown in Figure 2.
9. Connect the 24 VDC power supply ground wire (solid black) to
the relay power ground connection, as shown in Figure 2.
10. Connect the positive wire from the 24 VDC power supply (white
and black) to the relay positive supply input, as shown in Figure 2.
There will be two wires on this input.
