2 Sicherheitshinweise
Das Messgerät (CAT) wurde entsprechend dem heutigen Stand der Technik und den anerkannten
sicherheitstechnischen Regeln hergestellt. Trotzdem besteht die Gefahr von Personen- und
Sachschäden, wenn Sie die folgenden allgemeinen Sicherheitshinweise und die Warnhinweise
vor Handlungsanweisungen in dieser Anleitung nicht beachten.
O Lesen Sie daher diese Anleitung gründlich und vollständig, bevor Sie mit dem CAT arbeiten.
O Bewahren Sie die Anleitung so auf, dass sie jederzeit für alle Benutzer zugänglich ist.
O Geben Sie das Messgerät an Dritte stets zusammen mit der Bedienungsanleitung weiter.
Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
O Setzen Sie das CAT-Messgerät ausschließlich im gewerblichen Bereich ein.
O Das CAT-Messgerät ist kompatibel mit AVENTICS Zylindern der Serien PRA, CSL-RD, MNI,
CCL-IS, ITS, TRB, RPC und ICS.
O Setzen Sie das CAT-Messgerät nur bei AVENTICS Aktoren mit integriertem Magneten ein.
O Halten Sie die in den technischen Daten genannten Leistungsgrenzen ein.
Die bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung schließt auch ein, dass Sie diese Anleitung und
insbesondere das Kapitel „Sicherheitshinweise“ gelesen und verstanden haben.
Nicht bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Als nicht bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung gilt, wenn Sie das CAT-Messgerät
W außerhalb der Anwendungsgebiete verwenden, die in dieser Anleitung genannt werden,
W unter Betriebsbedingungen verwenden, die von den in dieser Anleitung beschriebenen
abweichen.
Qualifikation des Personals
Montage und Inbetriebnahme erfordern grundlegende elektrische und pneumatische
Kenntnisse. Montage und Inbetriebnahme dürfen daher nur von einer Elektro- oder
Pneumatikfachkraft oder von einer unterwiesenen Person unter der Leitung und Aufsicht einer
Fachkraft erfolgen. Eine Fachkraft ist, wer aufgrund seiner fachlichen Ausbildung, seiner
Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen sowie seiner Kenntnisse der einschlägigen Bestimmungen die ihm
übertragenen Arbeiten beurteilen, mögliche Gefahren erkennen und geeignete
Sicherheitsmaßnahmen treffen kann. Eine Fachkraft muss die einschlägigen fachspezifischen
Regeln einhalten.

Inbetriebnahme dürfen nur von geschultem Fachpersonal durchgeführt werden.
W Lösen Sie keine Verbindungskabel und Schläuche bei Systemen, die unter elektrischer
Spannung oder unter Druck stehen!
W Belasten Sie das CAT-Messgerät nicht durch Biegung, Torsion oder Schlag.
W Verwenden Sie das CAT-Messgerät ausschließlich im Leistungsbereich, der in den
technischen Daten angegeben ist.

Bei der Montage
W Verwenden Sie für die Montage des CAT-Messgeräts ausschließlich die mitgelieferten
Befestigungsbänder.
W Das CAT-Messgerät muss auf dem Zylinderprofil spaltfrei aufliegen.
W Bauen Sie keine offensichtlich beschädigten CAT-Messgeräte ein und wechseln Sie defekte
CAT-Messgeräte umgehend aus.
W Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Zylinder über einen Magnetkolben verfügt.
W Sichern Sie die Anlage gegen Wiedereinschalten. Hängen Sie während der Montage
Warnschilder an die Hauptschalter, die vor dem Wiedereinschalten warnen.
W Vermeiden Sie ferritische Bauteile im unmittelbaren Umfeld des CAT-Messgeräts.
Während des Betriebs:
W Wechseln Sie das CAT-Messgerät bei auftretenden Störungen sofort aus.
W Stellen Sie sicher, dass zulässige Kenndaten nicht überschritten werden.
3 Gerätebeschreibung
Das CAT-Messgerät ist ein berührungslos arbeitendes Messgerät und dient zur Einstellung der
pneumatischen Endlagendämpfung bei pneumatischen Zylindern mit einem integrierten
Magnetkolben.
Das CAT-Messgerät führt den Bediener durch den Einstellprozess und gibt den aktuellen Status
der Dämpfung an sowie die durchzuführenden nächsten Schritte.
Zusätzlich bietet die optionale App die Möglichkeit, weitere Informationen wie
Kolbengeschwindigkeit und Dämpfungscharakteristik anzuzeigen.
Das CAT-Messgerät ist auf AVENTICS Zylinder abgestimmt und kompatibel mit den Serien PRA,
CSL-RD, MNI, CCL-IS, ITS, TRB, RPC und ICS.
Das CAT-Messgerät erfüllt die Funkanlagenrichtlinie 2014/53/EU.

5 Montage und Inbetriebnahme
WARNUNG
Verletzungsgefahr durch Montage unter Druck
Wenn Sie den Druck vor Montagebeginn nicht abschalten, können Sie sich verletzen und das
Gerät oder Anlagenteile beschädigen.
O Schalten Sie den relevanten Anlagenteil drucklos, bevor Sie das Produkt montieren.
Aufgrund des magnetischen Messprinzips ist Folgendes zu beachten:
Durch starke magnetische Fremdfelder (z. B. Schweißanlagen) oder durch
ferromagnetische Anbauteile, die sich unmittelbar im Bereich der Abtastung befinden,
kann es zu einer Beeinträchtigung der Funktion des CAT-Messgeräts kommen.
Akku aufladen
VORSICHT
Verletzungsgefahr durch explodierenden Akku
Nicht zugelassene Ladegeräte oder Kabel und falsches Anschließen des Ladegeräts können
zu einer Explosion des Akkus oder zu schweren Schäden am Gerät führen.
O Verwenden Sie nur die mitgelieferten Ladegeräte (USB-Ladekabel + Netzteil). Siehe
„Lieferumfang“.
O Schließen Sie das Ladegerät sorgfältig an. Achten Sie dabei darauf, dass alle Stecker
richtig eingesteckt sind.

ACHTUNG
Schwere Schäden am CAT-Messgerät
Durch offene, lose, beschädigte oder fehlende Abdeckungen können Wasser und Staub in das
CAT-Messgerät eindringen, wodurch Schäden entstehen können.
O Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Abdeckung an der Micro-USB-Buchse (1) dicht verschlossen
ist.
O Verhindern Sie, dass die Abdeckung der Micro-USB-Buchse (1) beschädigt oder
abgetrennt wird.
Schäden durch unsachgemäße Verwendung werden nicht von der Garantie abgedeckt.
Bevor Sie das CAT-Messgerät erstmals verwenden, laden Sie den Akku mithilfe des Ladegeräts
auf. Sie können das CAT-Messgerät auch mit dem USB-Kabel (9, 10) am Computer anschließen
und aufladen.
Die LED-Anzeige (4) gibt zur jeder Zeit den Ladestatus wieder. Der Akku ist voll geladen, wenn
die LED-Anzeige (4) grün leuchtet. Fällt die Ladekapazität unter 20 %, blinkt die LED (4) rot. Der
leere Akku muss dann über die Micro-USB-Buchse (1) aufgeladen werden. Die typische Ladezeit
beträgt ca. 2,5 Stunden. Das CAT-Messgerät kann während des Ladevorgangs verwendet
werden.
1. Schließen Sie das USB-Kabel (9, 10) am USB-Netzteil (11) an.
2. Entfernen Sie die Abdeckung am CAT-Messgerät (1), dahinter befindet sich die Micro-USB-
Buchse.
3. Stecken Sie das USB-Kabel (8, 9) in die Micro-USB-Buchse (1).
4. Stecken Sie das USB-Netzteil (11) in eine Netzsteckdose.
5. Laden sie den Akku vollständig auf. Danach ziehen Sie zuerst das Ladegerät vom CAT-
Messgerät ab und trennen Sie anschließend die Verbindung zwischen Ladegerät und
Stromanschluss.
6. Schließen Sie die Abdeckung der Micro-USB-Buchse (1).
Zum Sparen von Energie verfügt das CAT-Messgerät über eine automatische
Abschaltfunktion, die das Gerät nach 5 Minuten ohne Messung automatisch
ausschaltet.
Positionierung und Befestigung des CAT-Messgeräts auf einem
Zylinder ,
Für eine korrekte Funktion des CAT-Messgeräts ist eine genaue Positionierung des Messgeräts
auf dem Zylinder erforderlich.
1. Positionieren Sie das CAT-Messgerät auf dem Zylinder, an der Stelle, an der die
pneumatische Dämpfung einzustellen ist (siehe Aufkleber in Abb. ).
2. Befestigen Sie das CAT-Messgerät mit einem der mitgelieferten Befestigungsbänder auf
dem Zylinder (Abb. oder ). Bei Zylinderdurchmessern größer als 125 mm
verbinden Sie die beiden mitgelieferten Befestigungsbänder miteinander und
befestigen Sie das CAT-Messgerät am Zylinder.
So wird ein Verschieben des CAT-Messgeräts während des Einstellprozesses vermieden.
Wenn das CAT-Messgerät nicht ordnungsgemäß befestigt ist, führt dies zu einem
falschen Messergebnis oder einem Ausfall des CAT-Messgeräts.
CAT-Messgerät in Betrieb nehmen
WARNUNG
Unkontrollierte Bewegungen der Aktoren beim Einschalten der Pneumatik
Es besteht Verletzungsgefahr, wenn sich das pneumatische System in einem undefinierten
Zustand befindet.
O Bringen Sie das pneumatische System in einen definierten Zustand, bevor Sie es
einschalten.
Die Inbetriebnahme darf nur von einer Elektro- oder Pneumatikfachkraft oder von einer
unterwiesenen Person unter Leitung und Aufsicht einer Fachkraft durchgeführt werden (siehe
auch „Qualifikation des Personals“).
1. Schalten Sie das CAT-Messgerät über die Einschalttaste (2) am Gerät ein.
Die 3 LEDs (Dämpfungsstatus und Drosselverstellung) (5, 6, 7) leuchten gelb auf. Jetzt kann
der Einstellprozess gestartet werden.
2. So stellen Sie die Zylinderdämpfung ein:
a) Fahren Sie den Kolben in die beiden Zylinderendlagen (Kalibrierfahrt).
b) Starten Sie die erste Messfahrt.
Das CAT-Messgerät zeigt jetzt den Dämpfungsstatus und eine notwendige Drehrichtung
der Endlagendrossel an.
c) Wiederholen Sie den Einstellvorgang am Messgerät so oft, bis der gewünschte Status
erreicht ist.
W Bitte beachten Sie die verschiedenen Anzeigen der LED (siehe Anzeige und
Bedienelemente).
W Nach dem ersten Einschalten des Geräts oder beim Einstellen der
Endlagendämpfung bei einer anderen Zylinderserie muss die Kalibrierfahrt erneut
erfolgen (siehe Beschreibung 2a) unter „CAT-Messgerät in Betrieb nehmen“).
W In einigen Fällen kann es sein, dass trotz entsprechenden Drehens der
Endlagendrossel das CAT-Messgerät nicht grün anzeigt, sondern nur gelb. Die
Ursache hierfür liegt häufig in einem überdimensionierten Zylinder für die Masse
und Geschwindigkeit oder in einer unstetigen Last am Zylinder. In diesen Fä llen kann
die Einstellung auf gelb belassen werden. Um die Vorteile eines optimalen
ausgewählten Zylinders nutzen zu können, kann mithilfe des AVENTICS
CylinderFinder ein passender Zylinder für Ihre Applikation ausgewählt werden.
Anzeige des Betriebszustands
Der Betriebszustand des CAT-Messgeräts wird durch fünf LEDs angezeigt.
W Wenn keine LED leuchtet, ist das CAT-Messgerät nicht eingeschaltet oder der Akku-
Ladestatus ist bei 0 %.
W Der Status des CAT-Messgeräts wird durch leuchtende LEDs angezeigt (siehe Tabelle unten).

Optional: Bluetooth-Verbindung zwischen CAT-Messgerät und
mobilem Endgerät herstellen
Das CAT-Messgerät verwendet die Funktechnologie Bluetooth zur drahtlosen Verbindung des
CAT-Messgeräts mit einer App auf Ihrem Smartphone oder Tablet. Die Funkübertragung führt
nicht zu Interferenzen mit den Messfunktionen des CAT-Messgeräts. Die App stellt die
Messungen auf Ihrer Smartphone- oder Tablet-Anzeige dar und ermöglicht ihre Anzeige in
einem gewissen Abstand zum CAT-Messgerät innerhalb der Reichweite des Bluetooth-Signals.
Voraussetzungen
W Android-Version mindestens 4.4
W Bluetooth-Schnittstelle mindestens 4.0
W Die Bluetooth-Funktion muss auf Ihrem mobilen Endgerät (z. B. Smartphone) aktiviert sein,
zu dem Sie eine Verbindung herstellen möchten.
W Das Endgerät (z. B. Smartphone) muss als sichtbar für andere Bluetooth-Geräte eingestellt
sein.
W Die Standortbestimmung (GPS, Global-Positioning-System) muss bei einem Android-Gerät
eingeschaltet sein.
W Das CAT-Messgerät muss eingeschaltet sein.
CAT-App herunterladen und installieren
Folgende Informationen können mithilfe der App CAT by AVENTICS dargestellt und abgelesen
werden:
W Kolbengeschwindigkeit vor Erreichen der Endlagendämpfung
W Akku-Ladestatus
W Bluetooth-Verbindungsstatus
W Weg-Zeit-Diagramm im Bereich der Endlagendämpfung
W LED-Anzeige für Einstellprozess (Dämpfungsstatus siehe Anzeige des Betriebszustands)
1. Suchen Sie im „Play Store“ oder „Apple Store“ die App CAT by AVENTICS.
Die Verfügbarkeit dieser App ist unter Umständen abhängig von der Region oder vom
Dienstanbieter.
2. Laden Sie die kostenlose App CAT by AVENTICS herunter.
3. Installieren Sie die App auf Ihrem mobilen Endgerät (z. B. Smartphone)
CAT-Messgerät mit App auf Ihrem mobilen Endgerät verbinden
1. Erfüllen Sie die Voraussetzungen unter „Optional: Bluetooth-Verbindung zwischen CAT-
Messgerät und mobilem Endgerät herstellen“.
2. Öffnen Sie die installierte App CAT by AVENTICS.
3. Durch Bestätigen des CONNECT-Buttons wird die Verbindung zum „AVENTICS Device“ (CAT-
Messgerät) hergestellt.
Im Umkreis von ca. 10 m darf kein weiteres CAT-Messgerät in Betrieb sein.
Es ist keine PIN-Eingabe erforderlich.
Wenn eine Kopplungsaufforderung angezeigt wird, wählen Sie Abbrechen.
4. Jetzt kann der Einstellprozess wie unter „CAT-Messgerät in Betrieb nehmen“ beschrieben
durchgeführt werden.
5. Schließen Sie die App, wenn Sie nicht verwendet wird, dadurch sparen Sie Energie.
Weitere App-Button-Funktionen:

ACHTUNG
Beschädigung der Oberfläche durch Lösemittel und aggressive Reinigungsmittel
Die Oberflächen und Dichtungen können durch Lösemittel oder aggressive Reinigungsmittel
beschädigt werden.
O Verwenden Sie niemals Lösemittel oder aggressive Reinigungsmittel.
Das CAT-Messgerät ist wartungsfrei.
O Überprüfen Sie das CAT-Messgerät regelmäßig auf mögliche Beschädigungen.
7Entsorgung
Entsorgen Sie das Messgerät nach den Bestimmungen Ihres Landes oder senden Sie das
Messgerät zur Entsorgung an die Firma AVENTICS GmbH, Ulmer Straße 4, 30880 Laatzen in
Deutschland zurück.

2 Notes on safety
The measuring instrument (CAT) has been manufactured according to the accepted rules of
safety and current technology. There is, however, still a danger of personal injury or damage to
equipment if the following general safety instructions and the warnings before the steps

Intended use
O The CAT measuring instrument is for commercial use only.
O The CAT measuring instrument is compatible with AVENTICS cylinders of series PRA,

measures, due to their professional training, knowledge, and experience, as well as their
understanding of the relevant regulations pertaining to the work to be done. Qualified personnel
must observe the rules relevant to the subject area.

W Do not modify or convert the CAT measuring instrument. The manufacturer can accept no
liability claims if these instructions are not complied with or the device is interfered with;
the warranty for appliances and accessory parts will no longer apply.
W All settings on the CAT measuring instrument, all assembly and disassembly work, and
commissioning may only be performed by trained personnel.
W Do not loosen any connecting cables or tubing if systems are under voltage or pressure!
W Do not place any deflection, torsion, or impact loads on the CAT measuring instrument.
W Only use the CAT measuring instrument within the performance range provided in the
technical data.
W The CAT measuring instrument is not a safety component in terms of the Machinery
Directive.
On installation
W Only use the included mounting straps for assembly of the CAT measuring instrument.
W The CAT measuring instrument must be in gapless contact to the cylinder profile.
W Do not install any obviously damaged CAT measuring instruments and exchange defective
CAT measuring instruments immediately.
W Ensure that the cylinder is equipped with a magnetic piston.
W Protect the system against being restarted. Hang signs on the main switches that warn
workers against switching the system on.
W Avoid ferritic parts in the immediate vicinity of the CAT measuring instrument.
During operation:
W Immediately exchange the CAT measuring instrument if any malfunctions occur.
W Make sure that permitted core data are not exceeded.
3 Device Description
The CAT measuring instrument is a non-contact measuring instrument and serves to set the
pneumatic cushioning for pneumatic cylinders with an integrated magnetic piston.
The CAT measuring instrument guides the user through the set-up process and indicates the
current cushioning status as well as the next steps to be carried out.
In addition, the optional app offers the possibility of displaying additional information such as the
piston speed and cushioning characteristics.
The CAT measuring instrument is customized to AVENTICS cylinders and compatible with the
series PRA, CSL-RD, MNI, CCL-IS, ITS, TRB, RPC, and ICS.
The CAT measuring instrument fulfils the radio installations directive 2014/53/EC.

5 Assembly and Commissioning
WARNING
Danger of injury if assembled under pressure
Injuries and damage to the device or system components may occur if the pressure is not
switched off before beginning assembly.
O Make sure that the relevant system part is not under pressure before you assemble the
product.
Due to the magnetic measuring principle, observe the following:
Strong external magnetic fields (e.g. welding devices) or ferromagnetic add-on parts
located in the area of the proximity switch could possibly impair the CAT measuring
instrument function.
Charging the battery
CAUTION
Danger of injury due to exploding batteries
Unapproved chargers or cables and faulty connection of the charger can lead to a explosion of
the battery or serious damage to the device.
O Only use the supplied chargers (USB charge cable + power pack). See “Delivery Contents”.
O Carefully connect the charger. Make sure that all plugs are properly connected.
NOTICE
Serious damage to the CAT measuring instrument
Open, loose, damaged, or missing covers can lead to water and dust entering the CAT
measuring instrument, which may damage it.
O Ensure that the cover on the micro USB socket (1) is tightly sealed.
O Prevent the cover of the micro USB socket (1) from becoming damaged or detached.
Damages due to faulty use are not covered by the warranty.
Charge the battery with the battery charger before you use the CAT measuring instrument for
the first time. You can also charge the CAT measuring instrument by connecting it to a computer
via the USB cable (9, 10).
The LED display (4) indicates the charge level at any time. The battery is fully charged when the
LED display (4) is illuminated green. If the charge level is less than 20%, the LED (4) flashes red.
The empty battery must then be charged via the micro USB socket (1). The typical charging time
is approx. 2.5 hours. The CAT measuring instrument can be used during the charging process.
1. Connect the USB cable (9, 10) to the USB power pack (11).
2. Remove the cover of the CAT measuring instrument (1), the USB socket is located behind it.
3. Insert the USB cable (8, 9) into the micro USB socket (1).
4. Insert the USB power pack (11) into a power socket.
5. Fully charge the battery. First detach the charger from the CAT measuring instrument and
then disconnect the charger from the electricity socket.
6. Close the cover of the micro USB socket (1).
For energy saving reasons, the CAT measuring instrument features an automatic
switch-off function that automatically switches off the device after 5 minutes without
measurement.
Positioning and mounting the CAT measuring instrument
on a cylinder ,
The correct functioning of the CAT measuring instrument requires precise positioning of the
measuring instrument on the cylinder.
1. Position the CAT measuring instrument on the cylinder at the point at which the pneumatic
cushioning should be adjusted (see sticker in Fig. ).
2. Mount the CAT measuring instrument onto the cylinder with one of the included mounting
straps (Fig. or ). For cylinder diameters larger than 125 mm connect the two
included mounting straps to each other and mount the CAT measuring instrument on the
cylinder.
This prevents displacement of the CAT measuring instrument during the setting process.
Incorrect mounting of the CAT measuring instrument may result in an erroneous
measurement outcome or failure of the CAT measuring instrument.
Commissioning the CAT measuring instrument
WARNING
Risk of uncontrolled actuator movements when the pneumatics are switched on
There is a danger of personal injury if the pneumatic system is in an undefined state.
O Put the pneumatic system in a defined state before switching it on.
Commissioning may only be carried out by qualified electrical or pneumatic personnel or an
instructed person under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel (see also
“Personnel qualifications”).
1. Switch the CAT measuring instrument on using the switch-on button (2) on the device.
The 3 LEDs (cushioning status and throttle adjustment) (5, 6, 7) are illuminated in yellow.
The setting process can start now.
2. Set the cylinder cushioning as follows:
a) Move the piston into the two cylinder end positions (calibration drive).
b) Start the first measurement drive.
The CAT measuring instrument now shows the cushioning state and the required
direction of rotation of the end position throttle.
c) Repeat the setting process of the measuring instrument until the desired state is reached.
W Please note the various signals of the LED (see display and operation elements).
W After the device is switched on for the first time or when setting the cushioning for
another cylinder series, the calibration drive must be repeated (see description 2a)
under “Commissioning the CAT measuring instrument”).
W In some instances, despite the turning of the end position throttle, the CAT
measuring instrument does not signal green but yellow. The reason for this is often
an oversized cylinder for the mass and speed or an instable load on the cylinder.
In these cases the setting can be kept on yellow. To benefit from the advantages of
an optimally selected cylinder, a suitable cylinder can be selected for your
application with the help of the AVENTICS CylinderFinder.

Display of the operating state
The operating state of the CAT measuring instrument is displayed by means of five LEDs.
W If no LED is illuminated, the CAT measuring instrument is not switched on or the battery
charge level is at 0%.
W The state of the CAT measuring instrument is displayed by means of lit LEDs (see table
below).

Optional: Create a Bluetooth connection between the CAT
measuring instrument and mobile end device
The CAT measuring instrument uses Bluetooth radio technology for wireless connection of the
CAT measuring instrument with an app on your smartphone or tablet. The radio technology does
not cause interferences with the measuring functions of the CAT measuring instrument. The app
displays the measurements on your smartphone or tablet monitor and allows the display at a
certain distance from the CAT measuring instrument within the reach of the Bluetooth signal.

W The Bluetooth function must be activated on your mobile end device (e.g. smartphone) with
which you want to establish a connection.
W The end device (e.g. smartphone) must be set to visible for all other Bluetooth devices.
W The GPS (Global Positioning System) must be activated in an Android device.
W The CAT measuring instrument must be switched on.
Downloading and installing the CAT app
The following information can be presented and read out with the help of the CAT at AVENTICS
app:

W Path-time diagram in the cushioning area
W LED display for the setting process (for the cushioning state see the display of the operating
state)

6 Care and Maintenance
NOTICE
Damage to the surface caused by solvents and aggressive detergents
The surfaces and seals could be damaged by solvents or aggressive cleaning agents.
O Never use aggressive solvents or detergents.
The CAT measuring instrument is maintenance-free.
O Regularly inspect the CAT measuring instrument for potential damage.

Dispose of the measuring instrument according to the regulations in your country of send the
measuring instrument to AVENTICS GmbH, Ulmer Straße 4, 30880 Laatzen in Germany for
disposal.
