IMPORTANT SAFEGUIDES
Before the refrigerator is used, it must be properly positioned and installed as
described in this manual,so read the manual carefully. To reduce the risk of fire,
electrical shock or injury when using the refrigerator, follow basic precaution,
including the following:
•Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet, do not remove grounding prong, do not use an adapter, and
do not use an extension cord.
•It is recommended that a separate circuit, serving only your refrigerator be provided. Use
receptacles that cannot be turned off by a switch or pull chain.
•Never clean refrigerator parts with flammable fluids. These fumes can create a fire hazard or
explosion. And do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vici nity of
this or any other appliance. The fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion.
•Before proceeding with cleaning and maintenance operations, make sure the power line of the
unit is disconnected.

•Use two or more people to move and install refrigerator. Failure to do so can result in back or
other injury.
•To ensure proper ventilation for your refrigerator, the front of the unit must be completely
unobstructed. Choose a well-ventilated area with temperatures above 60°F (16°C) and below
90°F (32°C). This unit must be installed in an area protected from the element, such as wind, rain,
water spray or drips.
• The refrigerator should not be located next to ovens, grills or other sources of high heat.
• The refrigerator must be installed with all electrical connections in accordance with state and local
codes. A standard electrical supply (115 V AC only, 60 Hz), properly grounded in accordance with
the National Electrical Code and local codes and ordinances is required.
• Do not kink or pinch the power supply cord of refrigerator.
• The fuse (or circuit breaker) size should be 15 amperes.
• It is important for the refrigerator to be leveled in order to work properly. You may need to make
several adjustments to level it.

Before Using Your Refrigerator
• Remove the exterior and interior packing.
• Check to be sure you have all of the following parts:

• Clean the interior surface with lukewarm water using a soft cloth.
Installing Your Refrigerator
•This refrigerator uses superconductor heat-pipe refrigeration technology (no
compressor).
•Thisappliance is designed to be free standing onl y, and should not be recessed or built-in
(Fully recessed).
•Place your refrigerat or on a floor that is strong enou gh to support the refrigerator when it is
fully loaded.
•Allow 5 inches of space between the back and sides of the refrigerator, which allows the
proper air circulation to cool the heat sink.
•Locate the refrigerator away from direct sunlight and sourc es of heat (stov e, heater , radiator,
etc.). Direct sunlight may affect the acrylic c oating and heat sources may increase electrical
consumption. Extreme cold ambient temperatures may also cause the refrigerator not to
perform properly.
• Avoid locating the refrigerator in moist areas.
• Plug the refrigerator into a n exclusive, properly installed-grounded wall outlet. D o not under
any circumstances cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. Any questions
concerning power and/or grounding should be directed toward a certified electrician or an
authorized Avanti Products s ervice cen ter .
•After plugging the applia nce into a wal l outlet, a llo w the unit to c ool down f or 2-3 hours before
placing food in the refrigerator compartment.

Electrical Connection
Improper use of the grounded plug can result in the risk of electrical shock. If the power cord is

Warning
This refrigerator shoul d be properly grounded for your safety. The power cord of this refrigerator is
equipped with a three-pron g plug whic h mates with standard t hree prong wall outlets to minim ize the
possibility of electrical shock.
Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third ground prong from the power cord supplied.

These refrigerators require a standard 115/120 Volt A.C./60Hz electrical outlet with three-prong
ground. Applicable AC adapter / plug has been provided.

This refrigerator requ ires a standar d 11 5/120 Volt A.C ./60H z electr ical o utlet with t hree-prong ground.
Applicable AC adapter / plug has been provided.
When operating this app liance on battery (12 Volt) power , use th e 12V adapt er pr ovided. If you h ave
a blown fuse always replace the built-in fuse with one of the same rating of 10A.
The cord should be secured behind the refrigerator and not left exposed or dangling to prevent
accidental injury.
Never unplug the refriger ator by pulling the power cor d. Always grip the plug firm ly and pull straight
out from the receptacle.
Do not use an extension cord with this appliance. If the power cord is too short, have a qualified
electrician or service technician install an outlet near the appliance.
Reversing the Door Swing of Your Appliance
This refrigerator has the capability of the door opening from either the left or right side. The unit is
delivered to you with the door opening from the left side. Should you desire to reverse the opening
direction, please call customer service for reversal instructions.

Temperature Control
Setting the Temperature Control
• Your refr igerator has o nl y one cont rol for r egul ating the tem per ature. T he tem perat ure contro l
is located on the upper right hand corner of the compartment.
• To control the internal temperature, adjust the control knob according to the ambient
temperature or purpose of use.

HOUR PERIOD OF USE.
• The first time you turn the unit on, set the temperature control to “HI”.
• The range of the temperature control is from position "OFF” to “HI”.
• After 24 hours, adj ust the t emper ature control t o the sett ing that best suites your needs. The
setting of “MED” should be appropriate for home or office refrigerator use.
NOTE:
Turning the temperature c o ntrol to "O FF " pos iti on stops the cooling cycle but doe s not s hut of f t he
power to the appliance.
• After 24 hours, adjust the temperature control to the setting that best suites your needs. The setting of
“MED” should be appropriate for home or office refrigerator use.
TO PREVENT LIQUIDS FROM FREEZING YOU MUST ADJUST THE
TEMPERATURE CONTROL TO THE MEDIUM SETTING AFTER THE INITIAL 24
Interior Light
This refrigerator is provided with a LED light located on the upper right hand corner of the
compartment. The light wi ll be on when the door is opened and be off when the door is closed.
Battery Power (Model SHP1712SDC ONLY).
This unit is equipped with a 12V power inlet for use in mobile home or other types of recreational
vehicles. Plug the 12V adapter into the inlet at the rear of the unit and insert the torpedo shaped end
of the adapter into the cigarette lighter of the vehicle.
This adapter is equipped with a built-in 10A fuse that can be replaced by unscrewing the top cover.
** Any time you replace the fuse you must you use a similar sized fuse with a 10A rating **
CARE AND MAIN TENANCE
Defrosting Your Refrigerator
This model uses a superconductor heat-pipe cooling system with automatic defrosting system so
there is no need to defrost it manually.
Cleaning Your Refrigerator
• UNPLUG the refrigerator, and remove the shelf.
• Wash the inside surfaces with a warm water and baking soda solution. The solution should be
about 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water.
• Wash the shelf with a mild detergent solution.
• The outside of the refrigerator should be cleaned with mild detergent and warm water.
• Wring excess water o ut of the s po nge or c loth b efore cleaning the ar ea of the c ont r ols, or any
electrical parts.
•Wash the outside c ab in et with warm water and m ild l i quid deterg ent. Rinse well and wipe dry
with a clean soft cloth.
CAUTION
Failure to unplug the refrigerator could result in electrical shock or personal injury.
Power Failure
Most power failures ar e corrected within a few hours and should not affect the t emperature of your
refrigerator if you minim ize the num ber of tim es the door is opened. If the po wer is going to be off for
a longer period of time, you need to take the proper steps to protect your food.
Vacation Time
•Short vacations: Leave the refrigerator operating during vacations of less than three weeks.

Energy Saving Tips
•The refrigerator should be l ocated in the cooles t area of the room , away from heat produc ing
appliances, and out of the direct sunlight.
• Overloading the refrigerator forces the superconductor cooling system to run longer.
• Reduce door openings and ex ten ded s earc hes , remove as man y item as needed at one time,
and close the door as soon as possible.
•One characteristic of superconductor heat-pipe units is the length of time it requires to
recover from having the door opened a nd shut f reque ntly. It m ay be n ecessar y to wait longer
for the temperature to retur n to its former level once the door h as been opened for too long.
This is normal for the type of unit.
•Superconductor heat-pipe technology costs just pennies to operate. It is environmentally
friendly due to the lack of CFC’s.

LUZ INTERIOR
