Preliminary Steps
1. Read instructions thoroughly for the gauge(s) you purchased.
The installation of each gauge requires the expertise of a
trained mechanic. Please consult a qualified technician if
you have not had training on instrument installation.
2. Consult your vehicle’s repair manual to locate the appropriate
port in the firewall for the gauge you are installing. Also
locate the appropriate 12V ignition switch wiring or fuse box.
3. Determine the best route for tubing to follow. Choose a path
free of hazards of moving parts or hot engine components.
4. Determine correct mounting location illustrated above. Note:
It is important that each gauge be placed as indicated except
for the optional Fuel Level gauge (explained later), each
gauge is designed with its own hardware to fit the designated
position.
5. All efforts have been made to determine the correct gauge
location for Shelby Cobras. Although many cars were built
differently (special orders), the gauge locations indicated
above are logical and vintage original photos of CSX 3022

indicate this layout. We suggest you follow this pattern. If you
chose to install your gauges in different locations Auto Meter
Products will not be responsible for any unfortunate results that
may occur. In order to retain our suggested original integrity,
follow the instructions correctly for the gauge(s) you purchased.
6. Assemble tools and parts required for installation.
WARNING – If you have purchased more than one gauge DO
NOT mix assembly parts between gauges.
7. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable from the battery during
gauge installation.
8. See each gauge installation instructions on the following

OIL TEMPERATURE
The oil temperature gauge is installed to the left of the steering
column.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the
gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the Mechanical gauge installation (Temperature
Gauges) for installing the oil temperature gauge.
4. If removal of the temperature sensor and adapter fitting
is necessary, do not allow the adapter fitting to rotate when
removing the sensor. Failure to follow this procedure may
break capillary tubing internally thus voiding warranty.
WATER TEMPERATURE
The water temperature gauge is installed above and left of the
speedometer (See Drawing).
1. Use only the installation components provided with the
gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the Mechanical gauge installation (Temperature
Gauges) for installing the water temperature gauge.
4. If removal of the temperature sensor and adapter fitting
is necessary, do not allow the adapter fitting to rotate when
removing the sensor. Failure to follow this procedure may
break capillary tubing internally thus voiding warranty.
OIL PRESSURE
The oil pressure gauge is installed directly above the steering
column.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the
gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the Mechanical gauge installation (Pressure
Gauges) for installing the oil gauge.
4. Install the 90o brass fitting on the back of the gauge using
Teflon tape. Make sure the fitting is tight and pointing down
and away from the bracket and case studs.
5. Instead of nylon tube use #4 stainless braided hose
(also known as –4AN) to the brass adapter. ONLY USE
STAINLESS STEEL BRAIDED HOSE FOR COUPLING
THE GAUGE TO THE ENGINE.
6. Position the hose away from hazardous moving parts or hot
engine components to the point of attachment.
FUEL PRESSURE
The fuel pressure gauge is installed above and to the right of
the speedometer (see drawing). WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL
ELECTRICAL GAUGES IN THIS DASHBOARD/HOLE LOCATION.
The wires and electrical connections on the back of the gauge will
short out on the steel support tubes on the cobra frame.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the Mechanical gauge installation (fuel pressure
Gauges) for installing the fuel pressure gauge.
4. Position the hose away from hazardous moving parts or hot
engine components to the point of attachment.
FUEL LEVEL
The electric fuel level gauge can be installed instead of
the fuel pressure gauge, but it cannot be installed in the same
location. To avoid possible fire hazards, if the electric fuel level
gauge is desired, mount it in the dash above and to the left of the
speedometer. Move the water temperature gauge to above and to
the right of the speedometer. WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THE
FUEL LEVEL OR AMMETER IN HOLE DESIGNATED FOR THE
FUEL PRESSURE. The wires/terminals on the back of the gauge
will short out on the steel support tubes and cause a fire hazard.
AMMETER
The ammeter gauge is installed directly above the speedometer.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the
gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the short sweep electric gauge installation (Ammeter
Gauge) for installing the ammeter gauge.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the short sweep electric gauge installation (Fuel
Level Gauge) for installing the fuel level gauge.
4. Use # 8 Ring terminals. Ring terminals must be both crimped
and soldered to the circuit wires. This will avoid inaccurate
gauge readings from increased resistance in the connection.
5. This gauge is designed to work with a gas tank sender that
has 33 ohms when full and 240 ohms when empty.
VOLTMETER
The voltmeter gauge is installed directly above the speedometer.
1. Use only the installation components provided with the gauge.
2. Do not cut hole in firewall. Use hole already provided.
3. Refer to the short sweep electric gauge installation (voltmeter
level Gauges) for installing the voltmeter gauge.

4. WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE VOLTMETER
ACROSS THE BATTERY.
5. Use # 8 Ring terminals. Ring terminals must be both crimped
and soldered to the circuit wires. This will avoid inaccurate
gauge readings from increased resistance in the connection.
