Auralex RC8 Users Guide

RC-8
Spacing and Installation :
Wall Installation: Secure RC-8 horizontally 3” from the bottom and top of your wall, then approx. every 24” on center (Example:
An 8’ high wall would require (5) 8-foot sections of RC-8 per 8’ of wall width). RC-8 is installed with the flange on bottom as shown
in the figure 1.
Ceiling Installation: Secure RC-8 to ceiling joists every 12” on center if using multiple layers of drywall and/or SheetBlok. Space every 16” on center if using only a single layer of drywall.
Floor Installation: DO NOT use RC-8 on floor installations. RC-8 is NOT intended or designed for floor installations. Auralex recommends using U-Boat Floor Floaters when isolating a floor.
General Notes:
RC-8 creates a nominal 1/2” spacing between the wall stud or ceiling joist and the drywall.

Installation Guidelines
Figure 1
• When mounting two sections of RC-8 to a single wall stud or ceiling joist, overlap the pieces and secure them together with the same screw. Do not butt the ends of the channel together, see figure 1.
• When mechanically fastening drywall to the RC-8, do not anchor the drywall to the wall stud or ceiling joist. Auralex recommends securing the drywall at the midpoints between studs and joists to prevent accidental coupling.
• Up to two layers of ” drywall may be hung on RC-8 OR one layer ” drywall, one layer of Auralex SheetBlok™ mass loaded vinyl barrier and one layer of ½” drywall.
For best sound isolation, Auralex recommends incorporating the following products into your room construction as shown in figure 2:
SheetBlok™ Sound Barrier

Resilient
