OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1 ON-OFF POWER BUTTON
Press this button to turn the unit on or off. The unit will also turn on automatically when a cassette tape is inserted if the ignition switch is "on".
2 VOLUME LEVEL CONTROL (VOL+ / VOL-)
To increase the volume level, press the “VOL +” side of the button. The volume will increase and the level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 80. To increase the volume quickly , keep the button pressed. T o decrease the volume level, press the “VOL -” side of the button. Keep the button pressed to decrease the volume quickly . The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last volume adjustment or when another function is activated. These buttons are also used in conjunction with the Select (SEL) button 3 to adjust the bass, treble, balance, and fader levels as described in 4 , 5 , 6 and 7 .
3 SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
DISPLAY CLOCK
This button is used to select the audio function (volume, bass, treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted using the Level Control
2, as well as the indication (time, frequency, or radio pre-set
number) shown on the display panel. A momentary press of the button will change the display from radio frequency to clock time. After 5 seconds, the display will automatically return to frequency .
Additional momentary presses of the button will set the unit for bass adjustment (level number above “BASS” will flash on display panel), treble (level number above “TRE” will flash), loudness ("LOUD" on display), balance (“bAL” on display), fader (“FAd”) or volume (level number). The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment is made or when another function is activated.

NOTE: Release the button as soon as the display changes from
frequency to time (approximately 2 seconds). Holding the button in for too long will put the unit into time setting mode (flashing time display). See section on “Setting the Clock”.
4 BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the level number above the “BASS” indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass mode, press the + or - side of the Level control 2 to adjust the bass response as desired. The bass level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum of 7 (0 is flat response). The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another function is activated.
5 TREBLE CONTROL
To adjust the treble level, first select the Treble mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the level number above the “TRE” indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Treble mode, press the + or - side of the Level control 2 to adjust the treble response as desired. The treble level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum of 7 (0 is flat response). The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another function is activated.
6 LOUDNESS CONTOUR (LOUD)
T o adjust the Loudness Contour , first select the Loudness mode by pressing the Select (SEL) 3 so that "LOUD" indication appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds press either (+) for "On" or (-) for "Off". When listening to music at low volume levels, this feature will boost the bass and treble ranges to compensate for the characteristics of human hearing.
7 LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance, first select the Balance mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the “bAL” indication appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Balance mode, press the - side of the Level Control 2 to adjust the stereo balance to the left channel speakers or the + side to adjust it to the right channel speakers. When the volume level between the right and left channels is equal, “0-0” will be shown on the display panel. Adjusting the balance toward the right will increase the number on the right side of the display to a maximum of “0-9” (full right). Adjusting the balance toward the left will increase the number on the left side of the display to a maximum of “9-0” (full left). The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last balance adjustment or when another function is activated.
8 FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
To adjust the front-rear speaker balance, first select the Fader mode by pressing the Select button 3 so that the “F Ad” indication

appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Fader mode, press the + or the - side of the Level Control 2 to adjust the front-rear speaker levels as desired. When the level of the front and rear speakers is equal, "0-0" will be shown on the display panel. Adjusting the fader toward the front speakers will increase the number on the right side of the display to a maxi­mum of “0-9” (full front). Adjusting the fader toward the rear speakers will increase the number on the left side of the display to a maximum of “9-0” (full rear). The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last fader adjustment or when another function is activated.
9 AM/FM BAND SELECTOR (BND)
AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
During radio operation, each momentary press of this button will change the radio band. The indication “AM”, “FMI”, or “FMII” will appear on the display panel according to your selection.
Pressing and holding the button for longer than 2 seconds will activate the Auto-Store Tuning function which will automatically scan the AM or FMII bands and enter strong stations into the pre-set memory positions for that band. If you have already set the pre-set memories on the AM or FMII bands to your favorite stations, activating the Auto-Store feature will erase those stations and enter new ones. This feature is most useful when travelling in a new area where you are not familiar with the local stations.
bl MANUAL UP/DOWN TUNING (TUN+ / TUN-)
AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Each time the + side of the button is tapped, the radio will tune one frequency step higher. Similarly , each tap of the - side of the button will tune one frequency step lower. To manually tune in a station, tap the button of the appropriate direction until the desired frequency is reached.
Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0.5 seconds and then releasing will activate the Automatic Seek Tuning function in the selected direction. The radio will seek the next available station and stop at that frequency. The Seek function can be stopped by pressing the butto n again or activating any other tuning function.
Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0.5 seconds will cause the radio to continue tuning rapidly in the selected direction until the button is released, at which point it will seek to the next available station.
bm LOCAL/DIST ANT SELECT OR (LO/DX)
This feature is used to select the strength of the signals at which the radio will stop during Automatic Seek Tuning. Pressing and holding the button for two seconds will select the Local setting (“LOC” will appear on the display panel) and only strong (local) stations will be received. Pressing and holding the button again for two seconds will select the Distant setting (“LOC” will disappear from the display panel) and the radio will stop at a wider range of signals, including weaker (more distant) stations.
