AudioSource Amp Six, Modular Dual Channel Amplifiers User Manual

Basic Guidelines
The Amp 6.2 and 6.3 are dual channel power amplifiers. These amplifier uses Tripath’s Class T technology, which combines the efficiency of digital with the sound quality of analog. The power amplifier is the engine of the audio system, supplying clean power to your speakers. This manual applies to both the Amp 6.2 and 6.3, as they differ only in size and output.
Using The Controls
Power
Press this switch to turn the unit on or off. The red LED will light when the power is on.
Turn this control clockwise to increase the volume level. Be careful not to set the volume so high as to cause distortion, which could damage the speakers.
Low Cut Control
This button may be used to filter out the lowest frequencies. This feature is useful when the speakers driven by the Amp Six are small and/or when your system has a powered subwoofer to reproduce the low bass signal.
Balance
Turn this knob clockwise or counterclockwise to change the proportion of the signal output to either channel. The 12:00 position indicates equal output to each channel.
Monitor Jack
This quarter-inch headphone jack allows you to monitor the signal being fed to the speakers.
Signal LED
This light indicates that a signal is present at one of the inputs.
Protect LED
This light indicates the unit is overheated, or a shorted load or DC is detected in the amplifier output. When this is severe, the amp will shut off. Turn the power switch off and on to reset.
Peak LED
This light indicates when the unit is near clipping. Occasional blinking is normal, but if it remains lit for more than a few seconds at a time, either turn down the level control of the Amp Six or reduce the output level of the component feeding the Amp Six. This will avoid audible distortion.
Back Panel Controls
Auto-On Switch
With this switch set to Auto and the front panel power switch on, the auto-on feature is engaged. The Amp Six will automatically turn on when it senses audio signal and will turn off after you have stopped using it. Setting this switch at Manual overrides the auto-on.
Bridging Switch
Setting this switch at On (Mono) bridges the stereo channels. This reduces the Amp Six to a single, but more powerful, channel. When bridging, use only the Channel 2 input and the positive speaker outputs.
Voltage Selector Switch
The setting on this switch depends on the country in which you live. In general, North America is 115 VAC. Check the voltage in your country.
Hooking It Up
When connecting the Amp Six, turn off or unplug your components. This prevents loud “pops” that might damage your speakers while you connect the cables.
The diagram above shows the Amp 6.2 in conjunction with other components from AudioSource’s modular separates line. The equalizer and preamplifier are optional. You also can substitute any amplifier and/or equalizer; the setup is the same.
1. Connect the source component (e.g. DVD player, CD player, cassette deck, microphone) to the preamplifier input.
2. If you are using a graphic equalizer, connect the two output channels of the preamplifier to the equalizer inputs. Connect the Channel 1 and 2 outputs from the equalizer to the Amp Six inputs. If you are not using a graphic equalizer, connect the preamplifier outputs to the Amp Six inputs.
3. Connect the Amp Six speaker outputs to the inputs on your speakers.
