IRG6 INFRARED REPEATING SYSTEM
The IRG6 system is an infrared repeating system that allows use of existing coax cable to transmit remote control signals from the TV to equipment in another location. The IRG6 consists of two units. The transmitter uses dual-band Stealth technology to intercept signals from the remote control and transmit them over standard coax cable (such as RG-6 or RG-59). It has jacks for cable input and output, power and an infrared eye. The receiver connects the coax to one or more emitters allowing the components to be controlled from the transmitter's location. This unit has jacks for cable input and output and an emitter output. Both transmitter and receiver are available in a compact die cast housing or on a Decora wall plate.
INSTALLATION
Installation is easy as all connections are made via plug-in jacks. The IRG6 receiver module may be located where the cable, satellite box and any other equipment is located. Connect a coax cable from the source equipment to the front connector (next to the emitter jack) on the IRG6 receiver. Connect the coax cable that runs to the TV location to the rear jack. Plug the IRBug emitter into the emitter jack and attach it over the sensor of the device to be controlled. The IRG6 transmit module is usually located near the TV. Connect a coax cable from the TV's cable input to the IRG6 transmitter's front connector (next to the red LED). Connect the coax coming from the IRG6 receiver to the rear jack. Plug the Stealth eye (the larger plug-in piece) and the 12 volt power supply into the jacks on the front of the IRG6 transmitter. The Stealth eye should be mounted near the TV where it can "see" your remote control. Due to it's small size it can easily be concealed.
Test the system by sending commands for the device being controlled to the Stealth eye. The device should respond as though it is being dircetly controlled. If a problem occurs, check the red talk-back light on the transmit module. It should flash only when signals are being sent. If there is no talk-back light, check the power supply. If the TV is not getting a signal, check the coax cable and connections. If the talk-back light is stuck on or twinkling, try moving the Stealth eye away from the source of interference. If the controlled equipment does not work properly, try relocating the IRBug emitter to a different position.
NOTE: Never plug an emitter into the sensor eye jack on the transmit module and vice versa.
The coax running between the IRG6 transmit and receive modules should be a direct run with no splitters, switchers or other devices. Multiple emitters can be connected to the IRG6 receiver by using the Audioplex IRS-1 or by using a connector block. (To attach to a connecting block, use a cable with a 1/8" plug on one end and stripped leads on the other. The tip connection goes to the signal terminal, and the sleeve connection to ground. On most connector blocks, the Power connection is not needed. Be sure that the Stealth eye can't "see" any of the emitters. This might create a loop that could cause erratic operation or lockup. This shouldn't be an issue if the emitters are in another room or behind closed doors.
