Audio Note AX One Loudspeaker
The AX One loudspeaker is a two way design with split crossovers for biwiring, it uses a 5 inch woofer and a ¾ inch tweeter.
It is designed as a bookshelf loudspeaker with good efficiency to size ratio and easy drive, making it ideal for both smaller valve and transistor amplifiers Efficiency, easy to drive, small, good bass extension, wide dynamic response
These are all parameters that are desirable in a loudspeaker of any size, Audio Note makes low power valve amplifiers and to us the above parameters are of the utmost importance, conserving energy is paramount when you only have 10 high quality watts available, transistor watts may be less expensive but this saving in cost comes at the price of fidelity which at the end of the day is less satisfactory as well.
Traditionally, small speakers are always less efficient, nature is not kind to our domestic considerations, we want small, but we also want to be able to play loud with both deep and strong bass and cabinet size is a direct measure of low end bandwidth, regardless of what the advertising of many speaker manufacturers may lead you to believe, a fact which has lead many speaker designers to make small speakers where the prime consideration is lots of bass, lots of treble and complete disregard for the area of the harmonic envelope where most of the sound is, the midrange.
As a company Audio Note believes in balancing all possible parameters to maximise the inevitable compromises in any product to get the most out of the parts used at the relative cost, in the past this has prevented us from offering products at a very low price, simply because we have always felt that the compromises involved were unacceptable in terms of sound.
When we designed the AZ range of quasi horn loaded loudspeakers in 1999, we realised that the drivers would be highly suited to a well tuned conventional box, so we decided to study the requirements of smaller speaker designs, the culmination of this work was the AX speaker range.

The Audio Note AX Speaker range.
In line with our fundamental philosophy, the AX range is designed to give the maximum sonic performance for it size and price and despite its conventional appearance the three AX models contain much innovative thought and design to achieve ease of drive, good bandwidth to size and a fine tonal balance. The AX range is designed to suit all amplifiers whether valve or transistor, they are designed to be tolerant to the higher power of transistor amplifiers.
All the speakers in the Audio Note AX range offer the following features,
Two way with second order crossovers and very high quality drivers with paper cones Completely separate crossovers for each driver allowing biwiring High quality discrete components in the crossover For finishes in high quality vinyl wrap, Beech, Rosewood, Cherry and Black Ash Stand or wall shelf mounting
Despite their small size they all have excellent efficiency and bass performance.
The AX One and AX Two are ported designs.
