1.0 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this Model 9A67 VGA to Component Video Signal Converter from Audio Authority. This product is designed to convert RGBHV video sources to YPbPr Component video for use with HD television displays. With compatible sources and televisions, it permits video images generated by a set top box (STB) or personal computer to be displayed on an HDTV that is capable of displaying the image format being produced by the source. Audio Authority also offers an extensive line of audio and video switchers, converters, and distribution amps available for purchase online at www.audioauthority.com.
The 9A67 is not a format converter. It passes the horizontal and vertical synchronization timings and pixel content to its outputs without modication. For example, a 720p RGBHV source with a 9A67 will require your HDTV monitor to accept a 720p YPbPr component video input. Any resolution and refresh rate adjustments that are necessary for compatibility with the display device’s inputs must be done in the source device.
Generally, Model 9A67 will enable any progressive-scan video source to be displayed on a video display designed to accept the source’s video output format. However, some combinations of sources and televisions may produce undesired display artifacts, shifted image, or fail to work at all.

2.0 CHECKING PACKAGE CONTENTS
Before attempting to use this unit, please check the packaging and make certain the following items are contained in the shipping carton:
• 9A67 video converter
• 12V DC power adapter
• User manual
Note: Please keep the original packing material in case the unit
ever needs to be returned. If you nd any items are missing, contact Audio Authority immediately. Have the serial number and invoice available for reference when you call.
3.0 INSTALLATION
Connect the 9A67 to the video source using a VGA cable and apply power using the included 12 volt power pack. Connect the output of the 9A67 to the Component Video input jacks of the HDTV. Power up the system and check for a picture. If none appears on the HDTV set, turn off the power, then check and correct resolution/format compatibility before restarting the TV.
Caution: Do not operate the monitor for extended periods with an unstable picture – incompatible settings can cause damage to your display device.
3.1 OPERATION
The 9A67 continuously measures the number of horizontal lines per eld (interlaced) or frame (progressive) and displays the format having the closest number of lines. HD formats are indicated as either interlaced or progressive. Inputs recognized as non-HD formats, such as those used for computer imaging, are displayed as
Format: Interlaced
Output Resolution: 1,080 Lines

the number of lines, alternating with an “Err” message. A constant Err message indicates that the 9A67 format detector does not recognize the input format. If the format reported by the 9A67 is not one that your monitor or projector can display, you must change the format being output by the source.
3.2 HDTV-CAPABLE COMPUTERS
For viewing DVDs, use software such as PowerStrip or DisplayCongX to set the output parameters of your computer’s high-performance video card to an HDTV format acceptable to the HDTV set. A common format is 1280 x 720 @ 60Hz. For displaying normal PC video on HDTV sets for games and other PC applications, make sure the HDTV can accept the progressive-scan format of the source. Remember, HDTV sets that accept progressive (non-interlaced) video generally have a maximum vertical refresh rate of 60Hz; avoid sending higher rates from your PC or damage may result to your HDTV set.
4.0 TROUBLESHOOTING
• If no picture is visible make certain that the 9A67 is receiving power by looking at its LED display. It should always display something if its power supply is connected. If no picture appears, disconnect the 9A67 power and adjust the source to a compatible video format. Caution: Do not operate the TV for extended periods with an unstable picture – incompatible settings can cause damage to your HDTV set.
• A constant “Err” message indicates that the 9A67 format detector does not recognize the input format. An Err message alternating with the number of lines indicates the input signal is a non-HD format (e.g. a computer resolution). If the format reported by the 9A67 is not one that your HDTV set or projector can display, you must change the resolution and/or format being produced by the source.
• If your computer does not allow a resolution compatible with your display, you must install third party software such as Powerstrip (Windows®) or DisplayCongX (Mac®). For more information on using computers with HD displays, download the article The Best of Both Worlds: Viewing a PC on a TV from audioauthority.com. Click RESIDENTIAL tab, then SUPPORT, and look under the Downloads section.

• Latptop computers are not recommended for use with the 9A67 because their graphics cards are not usually adequate to drive an HD display. It is recommended to use Model 1365 Mini-scaler instead of the 9A67 for laptop applications.
• If the picture on your display is not rendering black correctly, try adjusting the 9A67 horizontal sync output control. It is accessible with a thin screwdriver through a hole adjacent to the input connector. If no change is observed, restore the control to its full clockwise position.
If a problem still persists after trying the above suggestions, contact the Audio Authority Technical Service department via email: support @audioauthority.com, or call 800-322-8346 or 859-233-4599.
