1. Overview
1.1 Introduction
The GSM/GPRS wireless network combines the world’s leading wireless standard—the
Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)—with fast, packet-switched access to
data networks such as the Internet. Providing this fast access is the General Packet
Radio Service (GPRS).
SG6001 is designed to operate in GSM/GPRS networks. Two data services are
available in the GSM/GPRS networks: GPRS, a packet switched connection, and SMS,
a short message service.
GPRS
GPRS is an IP-based service that offers fast, packet-switched access to data networks
such as the Internet. It is a mobile service that improves the peak-time capacity of a
GSM network. GPRS gives packet-switched access over GSM to external data
networks with high peak transfer capacity. The main objective of GPRS is to offer
access to standard data networks such as TCP/IP. GPRS is a non-voice service
designed specifically for transmitting data. It breaks data messages into separate
packets for transmission from the mobile device and sends them to destinations in an
external network.
Most Internet-based application or service will run on GPRS. GPRS offers peak
throughputs of 40 Kbps (53.6 Kbps raw) because GPRS capacity is shared among
active users in the same coverage area, actual throughputs may vary.
SG6001 GPRS Serial Server
SG6001 GPRS Serial Server is a stand-alone device, enabling various kinds of legacy
devices with simple I/O and proprietary serial protocols to communicate over
GSM/GPRS network and the Internet easily and freely.
In addition to the standard GSM/GPRS modem functionality; SG6001 is supplied with
easy-to-use APIs and GPRS Gateway Software that streamline application development
process, freeing system integrators from dealing with complex communication protocols
of GPRS and the Internet.

With versatile I/O and flexible RF modules selections, SG6001 can be easily connected
to a wide range of RS-232/422/485 equipments, making it an ideal solution for
automation, M2M (Machine-to-Machine), environmental monitoring and remote device
management. SG6001 also includes Management Software that can be used to
remotely configure, monitor, and troubleshoot the attached device.

5.Troubleshooting
Q: When SG6001 does not successfully connect to GPRS, the GPRS LED always flashes, why?
A: Please check
1. If GPRS antenna is properly installed.
2. If the APN name, PPP name, PPP password, server IP address are correct. If the problem still exists, please directly contact your distributor or retailer for support.
Q: When GGS prompts me to reconnect again in ADM, I just can’t connect to GGS even though I follow the instruction. What can I do?
A: Please check GGS server as it may be shut down or a GGS server system error
occurs. Or ADM may be disconnected due to another new connection to the GGS server. If it is the case, wait for a moment and then connect again.
Q: When I use an RS-232 cable to connect my computer with the GDT, I just can’t get any response.
A: Please check the RS-232 cable. You MUST use the RS-232 cable for NULL MODEM;
otherwise, the connection will fail. Meanwhile, please make sure that you connect your computer with the GDT well. Any improper connection will cause failure. For example, the pin of the RS-232 may be damaged; change a new cable instead.
Q: When I right-click on GDT in ADM, why can’t I find all options of the GDT?
A: Please left-click on GDT and then right-click on GDT again. All options for GDT will
appear.
Q: My ADM tries to connect GGS, however it always fails and no error message can be found. What should I do?
A: There are several possibilities for this situation. First, there might have already other
ADM which has successfully connected to the same GGS. You have to wait until the existing ADM stops connecting so you can connect the GGS. Second, you have to check the network connection status, such as Ethernet cable, RJ-45 jack. Third, make sure you have the correct GGS IP Address. Please directly contact MIS for support and assistance.
