EN
This valve is designed for use in on/off function in a control loop. In the system, it must be associated to safety
equipment normally used in this kind of process. Its failure
can in no way be held responsible for the effects of any
deterioration or interruption of the process.
DESCRIPTION
Series 290 pressure-operated poppet valves, 2/2 NC, have
been optimised for high flow rates. The valves are equipped
with a piston-type dia. 50 mm operator. The valve body is made
of nickel-plated brass. The seals are made of NBR.
FUNCTION
See the corresponding technical leaflet for min./max.
pilot pressures, the operating pressure differential and
the fluid temperature.
PUTTING INTO OPERATION
The valves are intended to be operated within the technical
characteristics specified on the nameplate. Modifications to
the equipment may only be made after consulting the manufacturer or his representative. Bef ore installation, depressurise
the piping system and clean internally.
Read all information on the label: code , port, fluid (type, pressure, temperature), pilot fluid, pilot pressure, serial number.
CAUTION: The valv es are intended for use with special liquids
(hot water or glycol/water mixtures).
Max. fluid temperature: +60°C
Dia 50 mm operator, piloting with filtered air.
Do not exceed the max. allowable pressure of the valve (8 bar).
Installation and maintenance of the valve must be carried out
by qualified personnel only.
Fitting position
The valves ma y be mounted in an y position. The dia. 50 mm
operator can be rotated by 360° around its axis to enable
easy access to the pilot orifice.
Connection
• The connection (feed or return line, cooling or heating loop)
to the exchanger (Fig. III) is made on the valve body over
the threaded 3/4” port (NPT or GAS).
• The connection of the pilot air supply is made with a rightangle instant hose fitting 2.7 x 4 mm) (supplied mounted
on the dia. 50 mm operator).
• Use Total CERAN LT grease for mounting.
MAINTENANCE
Prolonged downtimes
For systems exposed to outdoor climatic conditions (frost),
it is recommended to purge the circuit and valve.
Cleaning
Maintenance of the valves depends on the operating conditions. They should be cleaned at regular intervals. The intervals
between two cleaning operations may vary according to the
nature of the fluid, the working conditions and the environment in which it is operated. During servicing, the components
must be checked for excessive wear. The components must
be cleaned when a slowing down of the cycle is noticed ev en
though the pilot pressure is correct or if any unusual noise or
a leak is detected. At w orst, this may lead to a malfunction of
the valve and it may not open and close correctly any more.
Sound emission
The exact determination of the sound level can only be carried out by the user having the valve installed in his system.
The emission of sound depends on the application, medium
and type of equipment used.
Preventive maintenance
• Operate the valve at least once prior to putting the system
into operation to check it opens and closes.
• The complete dia. 50 mm operator is av ailable as a spare
part (see replacement procedure of the 50 mm operator).
• If problems arise during maintenance or in case of doubt,
please contact ASCO or one of its authorised representatives.
Troubleshooting
• Incorrect outlet pressure: Check the pressure on the
supply side of the valve; it must correspond to the values
indicated on the nameplate.
Caution: observe the minimum pilot pressure values (see
the corresponding technical specifications).
• Leaks: Disassemble the v alve body and clean the internal
parts. Replace, if necessary, the dia. 50 mm operator.

Replacement of the Ø 50 mm operator
(Fig. I and Fig. II)
Actuato r K i t : X29054586000100
1. Purge the circuit and shut off the pilot air supply.
2. Disconnect the pilot hose.
3. Unscrew the cap on the optical indicator with a 30 mm
open-ended spanner (ref. 1).
4. Unscrew the red optical indicator with a 6 mm socket
spanner (ref. 2).
5. Hold support base with strap wrench/ universal pliers/
crescent wrench and unscrew cap (rep. 3) with 17mm hex
(See picture below).
9. Ret the complete new operator (Actuator Kit:
X29054586000100) by carrying out the above steps in
the reverse order. Ret the parts and tighten them to the
recommended torque values:
Ref. 1 = 0.5 daN
Ref. 2 = 0.1 daN
Ref. 3 = 3 daN
Ref. 5 = 0.5 daN
Ref. 7 = 8 daN
Ref. 8 = 3 daN
Lightly grease the O-ring (ref. 10) installed on the valve
body (use Total CERAN LT grease)
Replacement of the Seals
Seal Replacement Kit: X29050914900300
Follow Actuator kit replacement steps 1-7 and the additional
steps below:
1. Remove four 5 mm allen bolts located at bottom of valve body .
2. Split body in half to expose 2 bottom discs.
3. Remove two 8 mm nuts from stainless stem.
4. Replace 4 seals.
5. Install in reverse.
6. Remove the spring (ref. 4) and unscrew the piston
nut/lock washer assembly with an 10 mm socket spanner
(ref. 5). Remove the lock washer (ref. 6).
7. Completely unscrew the gland (ref. 7) with a 36 mm
open-ended spanner and remove the operator.
8. If necessary, dismantle the xed valve (ref. 8) and
change the gasket (ref. 9)
