3. General Description
The WZE-3 is the Wireless Zoom Extension unit for the ZMU-3. This unit can be easily attached to the ZMU-3, thus enabling light-weight wireless zoom control in combination with any member of the 3rd generation ARRI Wireless Remote System („Yellow Radio“).
Main features
• Light-weight 1-channel radio unit
• Fits perfectly to the ZMU-3 - no cabling
• Battery power supply for both the WZE-3 and ZMU-3
• fully integrated in the ARRI Wireless Remote Ssytem

Attaching the WZE-3 to the ZMU-3
Plug the WZE-3 onto the ZMU-3 and secure the connection using the ZMU-3 bracket D photo.
K4.65860.0 ZMU-3 Bracket assy.
Slide the bracket over the ZMU-3 rosette, rotate it, until the lug hides under the WZE-3‘s knurled screw. Fasten the bracket on the WZE-3 and use a 3mm hex wrench to secure the bracket on the ZMU-3‘s rosette edge.
Selecting the radio channel
The radio modem in the WZE-3 utilises a specific scheme of constantly changing frequencies, making the connection between the different radio units very robust against interference. The even channels on the radio channel selector switch (numbers 0, 2, 4, 6) utilize the upper half of the bandwidth (2444 - 2472 MHz) while the odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7) use the lower frequencies (2406 - 2435 MHz).
To establish a connection between one or more Wireless Main Units (a maximum of three per radio channel is possible), the WZE-3 must be set to the same radio channel as the receiving URM-2/-3, UMC-3, LDB-2 or ARRIFLEX 416 plus (HS).
It is not possible to control two receiving units with one WZE-3.
Note: In case two remote systems with the "-2" or "-3"
series modems (yellow antenna washer) are on the same set, it is recommended to set one of the systems to an upper (even) channel and one system to a lower (odd) channel number.
Page 13
Quality of the radio connection
Setup
Due to local telecommunications regulations, only certain channels are allowed in some countries. The WZE-3 must be used in odd numbered channels in France.
In all other countries, radio channels from 0-7 may be programmed if there are no local telecommunication restrictions for the 2.4 GHz ISM-band.
• Set the desired channel with the rotary selection
knob D photo on the WZE-3.
• Using the selection knob on the LDB (Lens Data Box), the FEM-2, the UMC-3 or ARRIFLEX 416 plus(HS), select the same channel as on the WZE-3.
Selector switch number 9 switches the radio modem off, number 8 is reserved for special purposes.
The RF-LED D photo (page 10) shows whether the quality of the radio transmission is sufficient. As long as the RF-LED is green, the radio connection is perfect. If the LED is illuminated briefly red, this means that a data packet has been lost. The packet is cyclically transmitted and the lens adjustment is still correct.
If the LED lights up red several times briefly, or continuously, it must be assumed that lens adjustment is no longer being performed correctly. If the LED flashes red, the radio connection has been interrupted for longer than a second.
The radio connection is best when there is visual contact between the antennas of the LDB, UMC-3, URM-2/-3 or ARRIFLEX 416 Plus(HS) and the WZE-3 is as small as possible. The maximum range inside buildings depends on the particular building and is typically approx. 30m. Outdoors the range is approx. 100m.

5. Operation of the WZE-3
Slide-in the battery into its compartment. Switch-on the WZE-3 using the blue „on/off“ button. The unit tries to connect to a corresponding radio unit. If ok, both the „ready“ and „RF-active“ LEDs glow green after a few moments. If not, check the following table:
LED signal description solution

Battery maintenance
The following batteries are recommended for use with the WZE-3:
SONY NP-FM Series (e.g. NP-FM 500H)
Recommended Charger:
SONY BC-VM50
For safety purposes do not use other than the recommended charger and battery types. Please also take note of the following directives for battery handling:
Do not incinerate
Do not expose to temperatures beyond
-20 to +50°C ( -4 to +122°F)
Do not disassemble
Re-charge the battery, if the „bat“ LED on the WZE-3 lights up.
The charger must be used indoor only. Do not expose it to humidy or high temperatures.
Note: For achieving full battery capacity, leave the . battery about one hour in the charger after .. the charge LED has gone out.
From time to time discharge and re-charge the battery completely to maintain full long-term capacity.
Defective batteries must not be thrown into domestic waste, but disposed of onshore in a safe manner consistent with all applicable regulations.
