1 Before Using the AV230
1.1 Important Notices
1. For Windows 98/98SE, please install driver before plugging in the
AV230 MP3 Player.
2. For maximum performance of the AV230 MP3 Player, it is best to use
a motherboard and operating system that support USB specification revision 2.0.
Note: The AV230 MP3 Player is backwards compatible with USB 1.1
mode if the computer is configured with USB 1.1 hardware and operating system.
3. Device playback or standby time will vary due to different types or
brands of batteries. If the device will not used for a long period of time, it is best to remove the battery to avoid possible damage caused by battery leakage.
4. The memory size of the AV230 MP3 Player may appear to be smaller
than what is stated on the package. This is normal, the discrepancy mainly arises from different file management and algorithms run by different operating systems and also from reserved space for error block.
1.2 Safety Notice
1. To prevent electrical shock or other injury, please do not disassemble
or repackage this product.
2. To prevent fire, electrical shock, or device malfunction, please do not
use this product in a wet environment such as a shower room.
3. This product is an electronic device; please avoid dropping it or
subjecting it to other severe shocks.
4. When transferring files, do not turn the power off or restart this device.
No responsibility is provided for any damage to or loss or any program, data, or other information stored on any media or any part of this device serviced hereunder.
5. Remember to set the volume at a moderate level. Listening to music
at high volumes can impair your hearing.

6 Driver Installation
6.1 Windows OS
1. NO drivers are required for Windows ME / 2000 / XP.
2. For Windows 98/98SE
Insert the Installation Tool CD into your CD-ROM. “Click“ on the Windows 98 driver Follow the pop-up window instructions to finish the driver
installation
6.2 Mac OS
1. No driver is required for Mac OS 8.6 and above.
2. For Mac OS 8.6 users, please FIRST download the patch file from
the following URL. http://www.apple.com/support/
6.3 Linux Kernel 2.4.0 or above
1. Mount the MP3 Flash Drive with the following command:
# mount –t vfat /dev/sda1 <expected mount point>
2. If this fails, change the MP3 Flash Drive format to FAT file system
with the command
# /sbin/mkfs.vfat /dev/sda1
Note: Backup your data before formatting the MP3 Flash Drive
3. Try once again to mount the MP3 Flash Drive with the command.
# mount –t vfat /dev/sda1 <expected mount point>

7 Removing the AV230 MP3 Player from Systems
Please remove your MP3 Flash Drive via one of the following methods. Incorrect removals of MP3 player may result in data loss.
7.1 Windows ME / 2000 / XP
Remove the device by clicking the icon “stop USB Mass storage Device” before unplugging the device from the USB port
7.2 Mac OS 9.x or above
Drag the “Removable Disk” icon to “Trash Can”; wait till the LED dimms before removing the device from the USB port.
7.3 Linux Kernel 2.4.0 or above
1. Unmount the MP3 Flash Drive with the command:
# umount <expected mount point>
2. If this fails, change to the other path with the command:
# cd ..
3. Then, try to unmount with the following command again:
# umount <expected mount point>
8 Using the AV230 MP3 Player
The device can be used as an MP3 player ONLY, when it is NOT connected to the PC and powered by battery
1. Play / Pause / Power:
Power On - Press and hold the button for 2 seconds to
power on the device.
Power Off - Press and hold the button for 2 seconds to
power off the device.
Play/Pause - When the device is turned on, music will start
playing automatically; press the button again to pause.
2. Volume Up / Volume Down:
Volume Up - Press the button once to increase volume Volume Down - Press the button once to decrease volume
3. Next Song / Previous Song:
Next Song - Press the button once to advance to the next
song
Previous Song - Press the button once to go back to the
previous song

4. LED Indicator (Green)
LED glows a steady green when device is paused. LED flashes green when playing music.
9 Using USB Flash Drive or SD/MMC Card Reader
When connected to a PC, the AV230 MP3 Player functions as a USB flash drive or SD/MMC card reader. Stored data/files can be transferred among different platforms via the USB 2.0/1.1 port of computer systems.
9.1 Viewing embedded flash drive or expansion SD/MMC card
1. Connect your player to your computer's USB port using the supplied
USB cable.
2. Confirm that your player is recognized as a Removable Disk in
Windows Explorer.
Note: Depending on your model, you will see either one drive (if you are using just
embedded flash drive or just an expansion card) or two drives (your embedded flash drive and an expansion card)
3. Click on drive to view contents
4. Drag or “copy and paste” files to or from the preferred drive
5. LED Indicator (Red)
When plugged into a USB port, the LED will glow RED. The LED will flash RED when transferring data (when
copying, moving, deleting data.).
When the computer is in SLEEP or STANDBY mode, the
Red LED will turn off.

Q: My computer does not detect the AV230 MP3 player. What should I do?
A: If you are using Win98/98SE, please install the driver. (See driver installation). If you are using Windows ME / 2000 / XP, please make sure the USB function is enabled in the System BIOS
Q: What kind of data can be stored on the AV230’s Flash Drive?
A: You can save any type of file on the AV230’s Flash Drive. Text, graphics, program, music and multimedia files can all be stored.
Q: Can a SD/MMC card be formatted in the drive? How?
A: Yes, a SD/MMC card can be formatted using Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 and Windows XP using the normal formatting function.
Q: If the MP3 Flash Drive gets wet, what should I do?
A: Dry the MP3 flash drive thoroughly before using it again, otherwise the humidity may cause a short circuit during operation.
Q: Can the AV230 MP3 Player work with a Windows NT or DOS operating
system?
A: No. Windows NT and DOS do not support USB devices; therefore, the AV230 MP3 Player cannot work under these operating systems.
