LED DESCRIPTION MR Modem Ready
Lights when power is applied to the modem. Flashes when the is in test mode.
HS High Speed (Reserved func t i o n)
In Command mode, lights when DTE-to-modem speed is 4,800 bps or above.
AA Auto Answer
Lights when the modem is in auto-Answer mode. Flashes when ring signal is received.
CD Carrier Detect
Lights when carrier signal is received from remote modem.
OH Off-Hook
Lights when the modem was picked up or answer the telephone line.
SD Send Data
Flashes when the local DTE transmits data to the modem.
RD Receiv e Data
Flashes when the local DTE receives data from the modem.
TR
Lights when the modem receives the DTR signal from the local DTE.

Hardw ard Connection

1. Lo cate an available RJ-11 modular jack telephone outlet.
2. Take one end of the modular cord supplied with the modem and plug it into the LINE modular jack on the back of modem.
3. Plug the other end of the modular cord into the modular jack on the wall outlet.
4. Connect the telephone's modular cord into the PHONE jack on the back of your modem. (An active telephone line and telephone set are needed if you need to use a telephone with your modem)
5. Lift your telephone's handset an d listen for a dial tone.
6. Connect the microphone to the mini-phone jack marked MIC (optional).
7. Connect the speaker to the mini-phone jack marked SPK (optional).

Installation Procedures for Windo w s 9x
1. Restart the computer after connecting the modem to PC. Power on the
modem. When Windows detects the modem, the message "This wizard searches for new drivers for: AOpen FM56-EXV Modem" is displayed. Click Next.
2. To search for the best drivers for your device, click Next.
3. Insert driver CD and specify the location: F:\Drivers\Win9x. (F is your
CD-ROM drive.) Click Next.

4. Windows will show the message ”Windows driver files search for the device
“AOpen FM56-EXV Modem” and show the location of driver. Click Next.
5. Windows has finished installing the software. Click Finish to complete
installation.

1. Restart the computer after connecting modem to PC. Power on the modem and then insert the driver CD into your CD-ROM drive. When Windows detects the modem, the message "Windows has found the following new hardware: AOpen FM56-EXV Modem " is displayed. Select “Automatic search for a better driver” or ”Specify the location of the driver”, then click Next. If you select ”Specify the location of the driver” only . The path of driver is F:\Drivers\WinME. (F is your CD-ROM drive.)
2. Select AOpen FM56-EXV whose location is F:\DRIVERS\WINME (F is your CD-ROM drive.) and then click OK.
3. Windows has finished installing the new device. Click Fi nish to complete installation. And then Windows will complete the installation of wave device automatically.

1. Restart the computer after connecting the modem to PC. Power on the
modem. When Windows detects the modem, the wizard will help you to install the new device. Click Next to begin installation.
2. Select “Search for a suitable driver for my device”. Then click Next.
3. Insert the driver CD into your CD-ROM drive. Select “Specify a location”
only and then click Next .

4. Choose Browse to specify the location: F:\Drivers\Win2k. (F is your
CD-ROM drive.) and then click OK.
5. Wizard will find the correct driver for the new device. Then click Next .
6. Read the Digital Signature and then click Yes.
7. Windows has finished installing the software. Click Finish to complete
installation.

1. Power on the modem and then double click “Modems” from StartàSetti ngs àContro l Pan el.
2. Click Add to add a new modem.
3. Check ”Don’t detect my modem; I will select it from a list” and then click Next .

4. Click Have Dis k .
5. Insert the driver CD into your CD-ROM drive and then indicating the path: F:\Drivers\WinNT. (F is your CD-ROM drive.) Then click OK.
6. Select the m odel of your modem and then click Nex t .
7. Select the COM port that you connect the modem to your PC and then click Next .

8. Windows might notice you to restart the system before you can use this new device. Click OK.
9. Windows has finished installing the software. Click Finish to complete installation.
10. You can see the modem set up on your PC. Click Close to go into next step.
11. Click Yes to configure Dial-up Network.
12. Click Add to add the device you installed.

13. Select the correct device you want to use and then click OK.
14. Click Con fi gu re to select port usage.
15. Select the port usage and then click OK.
16. Click Netw ork to select network configuration.
17. Select network configuration and then click OK.

18. Click Continue to go into next step
19. Click Yes to restart your PC.

Installation Procedures for Win do w s XP
1. Power on the mode m and then restart the computer. When Windows detects the modem, the wizard will help you to install the new device. Select “Install the software automatically” and then click Next to install the driver automatically.
2. Click Cont in ue Anyway to continue this installation.
3. Click Finish to complete the installation.
