Maincon Software Load Introduction
This procedure tells you how to do these tasks on any CNC machine with a Maincon PCB:
Install a new Maincon PCB. Remove the memory and software from the Maincon PCB and install it again.
The items below list different types of software and their paths on the Haas Portal:
1. Mill Control Software : Service > Documents and Software > Control Software > Mill > Mill XXX > XXX.zip
2. Lathe Control Software: Service > Documents and Software > Control Software > Lathe > Lathe XXX > XXX.zip
3. Enet Firmware version 14.007: Service > Documents and Software > Control Software > Enet Firmware ("Floppy Version") > 14.007 > XXX.zip
4. Enet Firmware version 14.011: Service > Documents and Software > Control Software > Enet Firmware ("Floppy Version") > 14.011 > XXX.zip

Important: When this procedure is completed, make sure that the correct optional functions are enabled. ENTER THE
BILL TIME CODE IF AVAILABLE. If the Bill Time code is not available, be sure to increase the time to the maximum date
permitted from the Haas portal.
Prerequisites
Use a USB memory device with back up files created with Machine Data Backup (Mill16.xx and higher, and Lathe 9.xx and higher), check the back of the control cabinet for the USB memory stick or contact service@haascnc.com to get the backup files.
Make sure you have access to the Haas portal (https://portal.haascnc.com).
If you do not know how to download software, refer to Software Available for Download from HAAS Portal.

Machine Preparation - Monitor Mode
STEP 1
Press [EMERGENCY STOP].
Disconnect all connections to the RS-232 serial port.
Press [POWER OFF].
STEP 2
Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold [PRGRM CONVRS] while you press [POWER ON].
Maincon Electrical Test
STEP 1
Type E.
Press [WRITE/ENTER].

STEP 2
Type Y at the first question [1].
Press [WRITE/ENTER].
Type N at the second question [2].
Press [WRITE/ENTER].
Type Y at the third question [3].
Press [WRITE/ENTER].The control will conduct an electrical test.
When the test is done, press RESET.
Note: Repeat the electrical test three times if you get the error FLASH NOT ERASED AT 1000000 .
If you still get this error message, replace the maincon circuit board.
Maincon Software Load
STEP 1
Get the USB memory device that contains the correct software version. Put the USB memory device into the USB port on the pendant.

STEP 2
From Monitor Mode, type FC [1].
Push [WRITE/ENTER].
Wait until the display shows the message FLASH CLEAR COMPLETE [2].
Type M 6000000 6FFFFFF [3] .
Caution: Before you push [WRITE/ENTER], make sure you typed this correctly. Make sure M 6000000 has 6 zeros. And make sure 6FFFFFF has 6 Fs.
Push [WRITE/ENTER].
Wait until this message shows 3 times: MEMORY TEST PASSED. PUSH RESET TO STOP. [4]
Push [RESET].
Wait until the display shows the cursor (>_).
For mill software, type N M18xxx.bin. For lathe software, type N L11xxx.bin.
For example, for mill 18.10C, type N M1810C.bin [5].
Push [WRITE/ENTER].
Type UF [6].
Push [WRITE/ENTER]. The display shows the message LOADING 00XXXXX [7].
Wait until the display shows LOAD COMPLETE [8].
Push [POWER OFF].

Initialization and Activation for Mill VER18 and Lathe VER11 Software
STEP 1
The display shows the Language File Loader screen.
Press [POWER ON].
Select a language.
Press [WRITE/ENTER] to confirm.
Press [F1] to load the selected languages.
STEP 2
Enter DEBUG mode.
To initialize the machine, type the correct model.
For 40 taper machines, type VFx. For example, for a VF-1, VF1 [1].
For 50 taper machines, type VFx50. For example, for a VF-5, type VF550 [2].
Press [WRITE/ENTER] to reboot the machine.
Note: You must press a key every 15 seconds or the control will turn off.
Change SETTING 26 to the machine serial number.
STEP 3
Record the serial number, MAC address, software version, and activation code from the MACHINE ACTIVATION screen.

Go to the Haas portal (https://portal.haascnc.com).
Select Service [1].
Select Machine Activation Codes [2].
Select Machine Software Update [3].
Type the serial number into the Serial Number field [4].
Select Get Machines [5].
Make sure the correct machine is shown on the screen [6].
Select Next [7].
STEP 5
Update all information on the page, then select Next [1].
STEP 6
Enter the activation code.
In the Reason for Upgrading field [1], include the software issue title and reference number from the release notes [2].
Select Next.

Review the information.
If the information is correct, select Submit [1].
STEP 8
Record the activation code [1]. Example: JWXY7
STEP 9
Enter the activation code into the machine activation page.
Press [WRITE/ENTER].

If you see this message, press [CANCEL] to continue.
Conclusion
Repeat the code entry process for the other parameters: 183 SP MAX FREQ, 1287 SPINDLE MAX BEARING RPM, and 1288 SPINDLE RPM MAX FREQUENCY.
Download the parameters from the machine and run the Parameter Checker Program.
Cycle the power.
Note: Make sure the parameter values for this software version are correct.
Backup File Installation
This procedure tells you how to install the backup files from a USB memory device. The USB memory device contains backup machine files, such as .VAR, .SET, .OFS, .PAR, .ATM, .IPS, .PAL, .LSC, .PGM. files.
Prerequisites
Use a USB memory device with back up files created with Machine Data Backup (Mill16.xx and higher, and Lathe 9.xx and higher) , check the back of the control cabinet for the USB memory stick or contact service@haascnc.com to get the backup files.
STEP 1
Press [POWER ON].
Press [EMERGENCY STOP].
Press [SETNG/GRAPH].
Change Setting 7 to OFF.
Change Setting 23 to OFF.
Change Parameter 257 SPINDL ORIENT OFSET to 99999.

STEP 2
Press [LIST PROG].
Navigate to the USB DEVICE tab.
Press [WRITE/ENTER].
Press [F4].
Select Load all - Restore.
Enter the file name of the backup file.
Press [WRITE/ENTER] to load the backup files into the software.
Go to Parameter 257 SPINDL ORIENT OFSET and make sure that it is not 99999.
Make sure all available options are enabled. Enter the Bill Time code if available. If the Bill Time code is not available, make sure to extend the time to the maximum allowed date per the portal.
Spindle Parameter Activation
STEP 1
Go to the Machine Software Update section on the Haas Portal. Or go to the Machine Hardware Update section.
Note: Machine Software Update and Machine Hardware Update give you the spindle activation codes. Select the option
for your task.
Select the correct software version, for example M18.05D, and then select Get Codes.
Print or record the correct parameter values [1]. Print or record the unlock codes [2].

Press [SETNG/GRAPH].
Change Setting 7 to OFF [1].
STEP 3
Enable the Spindle RPM codes.
For example, enter 12000 [1] for Parameter 131 MAX SPINDLE RPM. The display shows the PARAMETER AUTHORIZATION screen.
STEP 4
Type the code for Parameter 131.
Example: 23624 [1].
Press [WRITE/ENTER].
Repeat the code entry process for the other parameters: 183 SP MAX FREQ, 1287 SPINDLE MAX BEARING RPM, and 1288 SPINDLE RPM MAX FREQUENCY.

Option Code Activation
STEP 1
From the Haas Portal, select the Service tab [1].
Select Machine Activation Codes [2].
Select Option Codes [3].
Type the serial number into the field [4].
Select Submit [5].
STEP 2
Print the option codes for this machine.
Make sure the option codes match what the customer ordered. If the codes do not match, call Haas service.
Press [WRITE/ENTER].
Enable the option codes for the rest of the parameters:
All the parameter numbers for options that require unlock codes are listed below:
1. RIGID TAP (Parameter 57:4)
2. ENABLE ROT & SCALNG (Parameter 57:17)
3. M19 SPINDLE ORIENT (Parameter 57:21)
4. ENABLE MACRO (Parameter 57:22)
5. *TSC ENABLE (Parameter 209:24)
6. HIGH SPD MACHINING (Parameter 315:4)
7. FOURTH AXIS (Parameter 315:14)
8. FIFTH AXIS (Parameter 315:15)
9. INTUITIVE PROG SYS (Parameter 315:31)
10. ENABLE EXTENDED MEMORY (Parameter 737:2)
11. ENABLE HARD DRIVE (Parameter 737:10)
12. ENABLE NETWORKING Parameter 737:11
*Note: For software versions before 18.07A, TSC ENABLE does not require an unlock code.

After you install and initialize the software and use the Parameter Checker Program, do these procedures:

Important: When this procedure is completed, make sure that the correct optional functions are enabled. ENTER THE BILL
TIME CODE IF AVAILABLE. If the Bill Time code is not available, be sure to increase the time to the maximum date
permitted from the Haas portal.
Note: When all of these procedures are completed, cycle the power (1) time.
Note: To operate correctly, a replacement Maincon must have a Mocon firmware version that is the same as, or higher
than, the version of the initial Maincon. The replacement Maincon must also have the the same, or higher, Communications Firmware (“Floppy”) version. If necessary, do the Mocon Firmware Upgrade and the Communications
Firmware ("Floppy Version") Replacement for a Maincon Processor.
Note: You must create new backup files.
