This section describes the first steps you should perform to determine if your
Inf inity S er ies H.110 MC3 Mu lti-Chassis Interconnec t & Conference Board is
communicating correctly with your
quick chec k without connecting any c ables. The exact pr oc edure wil l vary
depending on which operating system you are running. For each operating
systems, drivers are requ ired t o interface to the boards. The drivers supplied by
Amtelco have tests built into them to verify communications with the boards.
These drivers al s o c om e s upplied wit h utilit y programs that all ow the developer to
test communications with the board. Please c onsul t th e approp r iate
documentation for the driver and op erating system you are usin g.
Quick S t art P rocedure
1. With the chassis power off, insert the board into a slot.
2. Tu r n on the com puter.
3. If the Amtelco driver is not already installed, inst all it now, following the
ins tructions suppl ied with th e driver.
4. Most Amt elco d r iv er s will displ ay a lis t of boards that are installed (see the
doc umentation for the particular d river that you are using). If the H.110
MC3/Conference b oar d is list ed, sk ip to step 6.
5. If the board is not lis ted, ther e m ay be a probl em with th e boar d not being
seated correc tly in the backp lane. Th er e m ay also b e a pr oblem with a m em or y
or in terrup t conflict. Power down the chassis and check that the boar d is properly

unable to fi nd the board, cons ult the nu mb er at the end of th is s ec tion.
6. Run the pr ogram “xdsutil” su pplied with th e dr iver. S end the message “IN” to
the H.110 MC3/C onference b oar d. Th e boar d should r es pond with the mess age

8. If the Communications screen shows th e correct command responses, your
H.110 MC3/Conference Board is communic ating with the PC. You m ay now
power down th e computer and att ac h the neces s ar y c ables ( s ee s ec tion 3. 4)

As Infinity S er ies board s c onform to t he PCI standard s, there are n o s witches to
set to configure the H.110 MC3/C onference Board's m em or y address, I/O
addresses, or interrupt. The host processor’s bios will automatically configure the
board at boot time to avoid confl icts with other boards in the system.

3.5 Ho t S wappin g a Board
The In finit y S er ies H.110 MC3/Conferencing Board can be “h ot swapped,” that is
it can be removed from a functioning system without turning th e power off or
interrupting applications. However, to be able to do this, the host processor must
be equipped with suit able hot swap dr ivers as well as a hot swap m anager wh ich
will aler t applications when a board has been ins er ted or removed from the
system so that resources can be p roperly managed. It is beyond the scope of this
man ual to describe the operation of eit her the hot swap dr iver or hot swap
manager.
Each H.110 boar d is equ ipped with a switch linked to th e lower ej ec tor tab and a
blue LED. Th is combination is used to c oor dinate th e ac tions of an operator with
the system software. When inserting a board, the board is push ed in part of the
way until the blue LED is illuminated. The insertion may then be completed.
When the connection process is c om plete, the LE D will go out. To r em ov e a
boar d, the l ower ejector handle is depressed until it is in the unlatched position.
When the blue LED comes on, the board may be removed from the system.

To in st al l the board in a system under p ower:
1. In s er t the b oar d with th e ejector tabs spread apart unt il partially eng aged.
2. W ait until the blue LED is illum inated.
3. Finish inserting the board by pushing the ejector tabs towards each other. The
LED should then go out.
To remo v e the f r ont board from a system under power :
1. Depress t he lower ej ec tor tab until it is in the unlat c hed position.
2. W ait until the blue LED is illum inated.
3. F inish removin g the board by sp r eading the ejector tabs apar t until the board is
