DST 814
25.6TB Quad Automated Cartridge Library
• DD-2 19-mm helical scan tape format
• 25.6 terabyte capacity in only 21 square feet of floor space
• Sustained transfer rate of 20MB/sec per drive
• Burst transfer rate of 40MB/sec per drive
• 2.7 GB/sec search speed - 300 in/sec
• Smart DD-2 quad density tape format
with multiple system zones
• Volume tape partitioning
• Three levels of Reed-Solomon error correction
• Read-after-write verification and automatic rewrite
• Up to four DST drives, each with independent Ultra-SCSI interfaces
• Aggregate sustained data rate up to 80MB/second
• 16 seconds average access time to any file
• Read compatible with ER 90 “D2C”
cartridges and with single and double density DST/DIS cartridges
The DST 814 quad density library is unrivaled by any other library system in the market. The fast robotic cartridge exchange operation of less than 7 seconds, combined with a search rate of 2.7 GB/sec, delivers an average access time of less than 16 seconds for any file within the entire 25.6 terabyte library. Each drive has its own UltraSCSI data path, producing an aggregate transfer rate of up to 80MB/second for the library. The DST 814 library holds 256 100GB DST tape cartridges, putting a total storage capacity of 25.6 terabytes online in only 21 square feet of floor space. By using the cartridge partitioning feature in the DD-2 tape format, the library storage capacity can appear as thousands of logical volumes to the host server.
The DST 814 library delivers disk-like performance and huge capacity that makes it the subsystem of choice for applications requiring rapid storage and retrieval. Combined with storage management software, the DST 814 library can enable data mining applications, allow building of data warehouses with high accessibility, reduce the cost associated with adding more disk, and backup an entire database in a few hours.
Ampex works with leading software companies to provide backup and recovery, archiving and HSM applications for the DST 814 library.
