Lower Error Rates
The tape used for the DCRsi™ 5000 series tape cartridges is completely screened over its entire length to protect against defects. In addition, all tapes are cleaned and conditioned using a unique process developed by Ampex to remove surface and edge debris that could build up on the magnetic heads. This process has been shown to yield a more consistent tape surface which further improves the already-low bit error rates.
Higher Capacity
Certified Performance
The 5000 series tape cartridges are tested using standard Ampex DCRsi recorders at full bandwidth (240Mb/sec). The Select and Certified tape cartridges are 100% tested and certified. The error rates are evaluated using a certification algorithm built around the error correction capability of the DCRsi system. The Standard tape cartridges are sample tested utilizing the same hardware and test methods as in the Select and Certified tape cartridges. Actual error rate specifications are given in the technical section of this data sheet.
Tape Integrity
The coating and polyester used in the tape are of the highest quality and have been proven over the many years of use for this product family. The tape chemistry provides a proven blend of low abrasivity, a high degree of shed resistance and excellent multiple pass durability.
The rugged DCRsi tape cartridges are made from high impact, fiber-reinforced polycarbonate to incorporate the best possible reliability and strength. They are flame retardant, UV resistant, non-toxic and are assembled with corrosion-resistant metal parts.

Test Notes:
1. Thickness measurements are made on Standard Gage Company Inc. Smart Box.
2. Retentivity and Coercivity characteristics are those intrinsic magnetic oxide properties which are dependent upon the nature of the oxide formulation. Retentivity is a measure of magnetic efficiency, which is the magnetic strength retained in the tape oxide just after the magnetic field is removed. Coercivity of a magnetic tape is a measure of the magnetizing field necessary to reduce the remnant field to zero. All coercivity and retentivity values are obtained from a 60 Hz B-H loop tracer with a 3500 Oersted field.
3. Erasure values are obtained by employing a 60 Hz alternating field applied to the tape under test, which causes a reduction of at least 60 dB to the recorded signal. All test conditions performed with optimum bias and record level adjusted to the standard record level.
4. RF output is the output of the tape as compared to the standard reference tape.
5. Uniformity is the allowable change in output of a recorded signal measured over the entire length of the tape.
6. Resistivity is the surface electrical resistance of the coating.
* Average BER of the batch sample tested.
