Introduction and Overview
The 8001 IP Alerter is an add-on device
that allows external visual or audible
alerters (purchased separately) to be used
with Nortel’s IP 2002 and 2004
telephones with a Communication Server
1000 (CS 1000).
By connecting to the back of the
telephone, the IP Alerter is able to decode
information to provide two relay outputs –
one for Ring and one for In-Use. Each
relay output is compatible with Algo’s
1825 Duet Plus Loud Ringer, 1127 Visual
Alerter, or 1126 Strobe Light.
Typical applications include ring
notification in noisy or noise-sensitive
environments such as factories,
warehouses, hospital nurseries and
recording studios. Other applications
include use in emergency service
environments where telephone answering
and quick response are critical (e.g. fire,
ambulance, and police).
How it works By connecting to the telephone’s Key
Expansion Module (KEM) port, the IP
Alerter is able to decode information to
provide two relay outputs – one for Ring
and one for In-Use. These outputs are

compatible with Algo’s 1825 Duet Plus
Loud Ringer, 1127 Visual Alerter, and
1126 Strobe Light.

Using the Alerter
Connecting to
Phone or KEM
1. Remove telephone or KEM from stand
2. Attach the loose ribbon cable connector of the 8001 IP Alerter by pressing
it firmly into the Expansion module
port on the telephone or KEM
3. Press the 8001 IP Alerter firmly
together with the telephone or KEM
until the alerter locks into place
4. Reattach the telephone or KEM stand
Configuration The 8001 IP Alerter appears to the CS
1000 system just as a KEM would. To
configure the device, set Key 0 of the
Alerter (the “KEM”) in System
Programming as an appearance of the
line to be monitored.

The IP Alerter has two different output
connections, one for Ring indication and
one for In-Use indication
Each of the outputs can be connected to
one of two different external visual
alerting devices (from Algo):
• 1127 Visual Alerter (for low-intensity
desktop/office or near-area visual
notification)
• 1126 Strobe Light (for high-intensity
wide-area visual notification)
As an alternative to one of the above
alerting devices, the Ring output can be
connected to the Algo 1825 Duet Plus
Loud Ringer. In addition, the output of the
1825 can be connected to an external
loud speaker such as the Algo 1185 Horn
Speaker.

Hardware Warranty and Repair
Each 8001 IP Alerter is warranted to be
free of defects in material and
workmanship for a period of 18 months
from the date of manufacture. A label on
the bottom of the unit identifies the
manufacturing code in the year and week
format (0820YYXXXX for the twentieth
week of 2008).
If you need to return the product for
repair, please contact Algo
Communication Products Ltd for a Return
Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number
and instructions prior to shipment. All
products returned for repair should be
shipped freight prepaid with the RMA#
clearly visible on the package. Products
will be returned freight collect for out-ofwarranty repairs or returned prepaid for
warranty repairs in Canada or the USA.
