Alcatel-Lucent
5670 Reporting and
Analysis Manager
Application traffic flow intelligence
for business VPN sites and
residential subscribers
The Alcatel-Lucent 5670 Reporting and Analysis
Manager (RAM) is an integral part of the
Alcatel-Lucent Application Assurance (AA) portfolio
for enterprise VPN services and residential managed
online services. It delivers accurate, timely,
application-level intelligence for service providers
and enterprise business and operational planning.
The 5670 RAM also provides insight into improving
application performance and quality of service
(QoS) opti mization by collecting, warehousing,
aggregating and analyzing application performance
and volumetric data for application traffic flows.
With the 5670 RAM, service providers are able
to better understand their network usage and
make informed decisions to ensure a positive
customer experience, sustained revenue growth
and operational flexibility while increasing profits.

Understand application
use to make informed decisions
With demand for bandwidth-intensive
and time-sensitive applications on the
rise, it is crucial for service providers
to understand exactly how customers
are using applications. Faced with
increased competitive pressure, service
providers need this information to
ensure a positive customer experience
and compliance with strict Service
Level Agreements (SLAs). At the same
time, service providers know they must
offer differentiated services and deliver
more value with existing resources to
be profitable.
The first step to addressing these
challenges is to gain a solid and
detailed understanding of how the
network is being used; for example,
in the case of residential services:
• Whyareresidentialsubscribers
calling about problems with
their VoIP service when the fault
management systems are not
showing any service issues?
• Whereispeer-to-peer(P2P)trafc
impacting the customer experience
with regard to over-the-top video
and applications?
In the case of enterprise VPN services:
• WhyistheITmanagerofan
important enterprise customer upset
that there were quality problems
during his CEO’s live webcast when
no SLA parameters were violated?
• Whatperformanceisbeingdelivered
between various VPN sites for various
enterprise applications over the WAN?
• Are“socialapplications”androgue
applications having a significant
impact on network utilization? In
which cases can these applications be
limited or blocked over the business
network to boost performance?
And in general:
• Hastherebeenachangingpattern
in application traffic volumes and
mix over the past three months?
• Wherecantheexistingnetwork
infrastructure be optimized to
accommodate higher volumes for
revenue-generating applications?
Does capacity need to be added?
And, if so, where and how can it
be monetized to its fullest extent?
The Alcatel-Lucent 5670 Reporting
and Analysis Manager (RAM) gives
service providers the capabilities they
need to explore the usage trends of
applications over IP/MPLS networks,
including the performance and volume
levels of their traffic flows across
service segments or through specific
points in the network. The 5670 RAM
is an integral component in the
Alcatel-Lucent Application Assurance
solution and allows massive volumes
of application-level information to
be efficiently collected, warehoused,
aggregated and analyzed by service
providers and their customers.
“The Alcatel-Lucent
solution supercharges our
IP network and enables us
to expand the converged
services we can offer.
Our business depends
on us being able to
deliver quality of
service guarantees that
ensure our customers’
mission-critical traffic
is prioritized and
managed according to
strict quality standards.”
