Simplified IP/MPLS management with
integrated route and path analytics
“When expanding our IP based business, scaling network operations becomes a significant
issue. Retraining our entire workforce to become CLI driven IP experts is not realistic;
therefore, we need management tools to simplify troubleshooting services over an
IP/MPLS routed core.
We looked at IP control plane tools but Alcatel-Lucent’s expanded IP/MPLS management
solution is far superior. One simple tool would offer integrated service and control plane
management, allowing our entire networking staff to monitor, validate and trouble
shoot across all layers of the network resulting in unmatched operational efficiency.”

Finally, real-time, visual control
plane management
The customer’s experience can make or break their relationship with their service
provider. Whether they are meeting the increasing demands of residential subscribers
or delivering business-critical services, service providers know they cannot afford
to let their customers down. For profitable services, they must deliver a positive
customer experience and adhere to strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs). As a
result, they must do everything they can to prevent service-affecting outages and
accelerate problem resolution.
With IP/MPLS technology, service providers gain control plane capabilities
that dynamically reroute services around failures to help ensure a consistently
high-quality customer experience. But managing complex control plane activities
in a multivendor network with legacy management systems and command line
interfaces is slow. And it does not let network planners and operators assess the
direct impact of IP routing and MPLS path changes to services. Control plane
misconfiguration, undetected routing topologies and MPLS path changes can
lead to provisioning problems, service failures and troubleshooting delays. With
no simple tools to help network operators understand the control plane’s impact
on services, these inefficiencies can lead to accidental customer-affecting issues
and SLA violations.
“Alcatel-Lucent brought
transparency to the
network configuration via
their 5650 Control Plane
Assurance Manager (CPAM).
The 5650 CPAM is a vendor
agnostic route analytics solution,
which provides a real-time
configuration insight into the
IP/MPLS network.”

The Alcatel-Lucent 5650 Control Plane Assurance Manager (CPAM) provides
multivendor IP/MPLS route and path analytics to fill the gap in IP/MPLS control
plane management. Network operators can overlay Layer 2 and 3 services, MPLS
tunnels and service validation traces on the control plane topology map to visualize
multiple layers in a single, integrated view. When operators can see and understand
the relationships between the layers in real time, they can limit the number of
problem escalations and decrease troubleshooting time for faster problem resolution.
This comprehensive approach to control plane assurance is tightly integrated
with the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), giving service
providers the industry’s first and only fully integrated platform for service-aware
element, network, service and control plane management of IP/MPLS networks.
