A handle replace m en t pr ogr a m w ill be initiated starting A pr il 2000. Customer Engineers
(CEs) will con ta ct all cus tomers to advise the m of the r eplacement program, and will trave l
to customer sites to replace the original handles with handles that provide greater inward
force. In the limited circumstances where CEs cannot travel to customer sites, the CE will
advise the customer of the nea r e st A gilent Service Ce nte r , wh e r e the h an dle will be replace d.
CEs will remove all or iginal handles from the customer site, an d dispose of them in a proper
manner. Planned c ompletion date for the replacement progra m is October 2000.

Situation:
When the instrument is carried by the handle, lack of inward force on the original handle
rotation points may cause the instrument to rot at e on the h an dle axis. This rotati on ma y
cause injury to the person carr ying the instrume nt or ma y r es ult in damage to the instrument.
Solutio n / A ction:
Handles with an inward force of 10-12 lbs. (+-1 lb) have been tested and specified as the
optimal inward for c e for the repl ace me nt handles. Additionally, warning labels ha ve be en
affixed to the replacement handles to provide customers with additional guidance concerning
proper usage.
1. CEs should repla c e all or iginal instrument handles, including the handles on r ack mounted instr uments, as soon as pos sible.
2. CEs should mak e ab solutely sure that the ori gina l ha ndle is removed fro m the
customer locati on .
