Operating Instructions

1 Safety

The safety aspects of AEG electrical appliances comply with accepted
technical standards and the German Appliance Safety Law. However, as
manufacturers we regard it as our responsibility to inform you about
the following safety instructions.

Before Using for the First Time

• Refer to the "Installation and Connection Instructions" further on in
this user information.

• If units are delivered in the winter months at minus temperatures:
Store the washing machine at room temperature for a few hours be­fore putting it into operation.

Correct Use

• The washing machine is only intended for washing normal domestic
washing. If the appliance is used for a wrong purpose or wrongly op­erated, the manufacturer cannot assume any liability for any dam­ages.

• Additions or modifications to the washing machine are strictly for­bidden due to safety reasons.

• Use only detergent which is suitable for washing machines. Refer to
the detergent manufacturer's instructions.

• The washing must not contain any flammable solvents. Also bear this
in mind when washing pre-cleaned washing.

• Do not use the washing machine for dry-cleaning.

• Dyes /dye-removing agents may only be used in the washing machine

if the manufacturer expressly permits use of these products. We can­not accept liability for any damage.

• Use only water from the water mains. Use rain water or service water
only if it meets the requirements defined in DIN 1986 and DIN 1988.

• Frost damage is not covered by the warranty! If the washing machine
is in a room subject to possible frost hazards, emergency emptying
must be carried out if there is a risk of frost (see the Section "Carry­ing out emergency emptying“).

Safety of Children and Infirm Persons

• Packaging materials (e.g. films, polystyrene) can be dangerous for
children. Risk of suffocation! Keep packaging away from children.

• The appliance is not intendet for use by young children or infirm per­sons without supervision.

• Children frequently cannot recognise hazards involved in handling
electrical appliances. Therefore, ensure that they are properly super­vised during operation and never allow children to play with the
washing machine -there is arisk thatthey can lockthemselves inside it.

• Ensure that children or small animals do not climb into the washing
machine's drum.

• When disposing of washing machines pull out the mains plug, destroy
the door lock, cut off the electrical supply lead and dispose of the
plug and remaining cable. This means that playing children cannot
shut themselves in and cannot encounter a potentially lethal hazard.

General Safety

• Repairs to washing machines may only be carried out by skilled
persons. Improper repairs can cause significant hazards for the user.
If your appliance needs repairing, please contact customer service or
your dealer.

• Never put the washing machine into operation if the mains cable is
damaged or if the control panel, work top or base area is damaged in
such a way that the inside of the appliance is openly accessible.

• Before cleaning, care and maintenance work, switch off the washing
machine. Also, pull the mains plug out of the socket, or - in the case
of permanent connection - switch off the LS switch in the fuse box
or completely unscrew the screw-in fuse.

• If operation is stopped, disconnect the appliance from the mains sup­ply and shut off the tap.

• Never pull the mains plug out of the socket by the cable. Always use
the plug.

• Multiple connectors, couplings and extension cables must not be
used. Fire hazard through overheating!

• Do not spray down the washing machine with a water jet. Danger of
electrical shock!

• The glass in the filling door become hot when high-temperature
washing programmes are used. Do not touch!

• Allow the washing solution to cool down before performing and
emergency emptying of the appliance, before cleaning the solution
pump or before an emergency opening of the filling door.

• Small animals can chew on power cables and water hoses. This can
cause a danger of electric shock and water damage. Keep small
animals away from washing machines.

2 Disposal

Disposing of the Packaging Material!

Dispose of the packaging of your washing machine correctly. All pakka­ging materials used are environmentally-compatible and recyclable.

• Plastic parts are identified with internationally standardised abbrevi­ations:

>PE< for polyethylene, e.g. packing films.
>PS< for polystyrene, e.g. cushion parts (always CFC-free)
>POM< for polyoxymethylene, e.g. plastic clips.

• Cardboard packaging is manufactured from recycled paper and
should be deposited in the waste paper collection for recycling.

Disposing of your old appliance!

When you put your unit out of operation one day, please bring it to
your nearest recycling centre or to your dealer.

2 Environmental Tips

• You do not need to use a pre wash cycle or soak for washing with av­erage soiling. This saves detergent, water and time (and protects the
environment).

• When loaded to the capacities indicated the washing machine is es­pecially efficient.

• For small loads, use only one half to two thirds of the recommended
quantity of detergent.

• By pre-treating stains and marks you will be able to wash at a lower
temperature.

• It is often possible to wash without using softener. Give it a try! If
you use a drier, your washing will be soft and fluffy even without a
softener.

• For medium to high water hardness (from hardness range II, see “De­tergents and Conditioners”) you should use water softener. The
detergent can then always be dosed as for hardness range I (= soft).

The programme selector defines the
nature of the wash cycle (e.g. water
level, drum movement, number of
rinses, spin speed) to suit the type of
washing, as well as the water tem­perature.

I (OFF)

Switches the washing machine off;
the machine is switched on at all
other positions.
To correct programme settings that have been selected accidentally
turn the programme selector to the I (OFF) position. The initial posi­tion is reinstated.

t } (COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-CARES)

Wash programme between 20 °C and 95 °C, may be used for all cotton
and linen washing (cottons/linen), easy-cares (blended fabrics, e.g., cot­ton/polyester) and synthetics. The wash programme adjusts to suit the
various types of fabric and quantities. If there is mostly cotton/linen a
suitable cottons/linen programme is carried out; if there is more syn­thetic material a programme for easy-cares is selected. If the machine
is loaded exclusively with easy-cares the quantity should not exceed

2.5 kg in order to avoid creasing.

w (STARCHING)

Separate starching, separate rinsing, separate conditioning or separate
soaking of damp washing (1 rinse, liquid conditioner is added from the
compartment æ, spin).
If a separate rinse is carried out do not put any conditioner into the
compartment.

v (DRAIN)

The water is pumped away after a rinse hold (without spin).

Rinse hold means: the washing remains in the last rinsing water and is

not spun.

K (SPIN)

The water is pumped out at the end of a rinse hold and spin, or hand
washed cottons/linen and easy cares are spun separately.

L (SHORT SPIN)

The water is pumped out at the end of a rinse hold and short spin, or
delicate fabrics (delicates, woollens) are given a separate short spin at
low revs.

à (DELICATES)

Wash programme for delicates at 30 °C or 40 °C.

s (WOOL) / P (Hand wash)

Wash programme (cold to 40 °C) for machine-washable woollens and
for hand-washable woollen fabrics bearing the ï care symbol (hand
wash).

(SILK) / P (Hand wash)

Ñ

Wash programme at 30 °C for hand and machine-washable silk.

As silk is a very sensitive fabric, we recommend that you only wash one

item of clothing at a time, and that such items never be washed with
other rough fabrics. A still more gentle wash is possible for extremely
sensitive silk fabrics using the ] (TIME SAVER) button.

f (FASHION)

A particularly gentle special programme at 40 °C for modern fabrics
such as viscose, modal, cupro, lyocell, with a gentler wash action than
the à (DELICATES) programme, but washing more thoroughly than
the hand wash programmes.

g (REFRESH)

A special programme lasting approx. 20 minutes at 30 °C to give fabrics
a quick wash, such as, for example, very slightly soiled sports clothes
that have been worn only once.

<(EASY IRON)

Wash programme at 40 °C for easy-care fabrics that will only need to
be ironed lightly, if at all, at the conclusion of the programme.

ECO (ENERGY SAVING)

A wash programme at approx. 60 °C that is particularly economical on
electricity and water for slightly to normally soiled cotton and linen
washing (cottons/linen) with an extended washing time.

Programme Option Buttons

The programme option buttons are used to adapt
the wash programme to suit the degree of soiling of
the washing. For washing with a normal degree of
soiling such programme options as k (PRE WASH)
and ä (STAIN) are not necessary.
The different functions can be combined with one
another depending on the programme.

k (PRE WASH )
(Pre wash/Soaking)

Cold pre wash prior to the main wash cycle that fol­lows automatically. Using the b (DELAY TIMER)
button pre wash can be changed to warm soaking.

e (SENSITIVE)

Special programme option with significantly increased rinse action (ad­ditional rinse cycle) and at the same time increased gentleness to fab­rics (reduced drum movement). Ideal if items have to be washed
frequently such as when the wearer has sensitive skin. +Á (RINSE+)
may be selected in addition.

ä (STAIN)
For treating heavily soiled or stained washing. (In-wash stain treatment

or tablets are washed in from the compartment at the optimal point in
the programme cycle.)

When s (WOOL)/P (Hand wash) has been set the programme op-

tions cannot be selected using the buttons.

] (TIME SAVER)

Shortened wash programme for less soiled washing; may be selected in
three stages for the t } (COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-CARES) pro­gramme and in two stages for other programmes.

Consumption Values and Wash Times

The values given in the following table for selected programmes were
calculated under standard conditions. Apart from the settings selected
(optional functions), the consumption values also depend on external
conditions such as water temperature or the detergent used. They pro­vide a useful guide for operation in the home.

depend on the usual washing practice and
the ambient conditions at the place of in­stallation. The washing type and quantity,
the type of washing detergent, the water temperature and the room
temperature etc. can influence the duration of the wash programme.

What does “UPDATE” mean?

The wash programmes in your washing machine are controlled by soft­ware.
New types of fabric or new detergents may require new wash pro­grammes in the future. In most cases, the software can be adapted to
this.
For further information on a possible “update” please contact customer
service.

Anti-flood system Aqua Control + +
Aqua Alarm

In the event of damage to the supply hose, the system blocks the fur­ther supply of water to the unit directly st the water tap.
If water escapes at another point, the drainage pump pumps the water
off automatically - even if the unit is switched on. It is merely neces­sary for the washing machine to be connected to the mains. If the anti­flood system responds, a warning signal sounds at the same time.

Before the First Wash

0 Run a wash cycle without washing; t } (COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-

CARES 95) programme with half the amount of washing detergent. This
removes any residues from the drum and solution container which may
have been left during manufacturing.

Preparing a Wash Load

Sorting and preparing a wash load

• Sort the washing according to care symbol (see “Washing Types and
Care Symbols”).

• Empty all pockets.

• Remove metal objects (paper clips, safety pins etc.).

• In order to prevent the washing tangling and being damaged: close

zippers, button up duvet covers and pillow cases, and tie up loose
straps such as from aprons.

• Turn articles with double layered fabric inside out (sleeping bags,
anoraks etc.).

• In the case of knitted coloured fabrics and also wool and fabrics with
jewellery attached: turn inside out.

• Place small and delicate articles (baby booties, stockings, bras etc.)
into a washing net, a pillow case with zipper, or in large socks before
washing.

• Handle curtains with particular care. Metal fittings or burred, plastic
fittings must be removed or tied into a net or bag. We cannot accept
liability for damage.

• Do not wash coloured and white washing together. This could trans­fer colour to white washing or turn it grey.

• New coloured items often have an excess of colour. It is better to
wash such items separately the first time.

• Mix small and large items of washing. This improves the wash effi­ciency and the washing is more evenly distributed during the spin cy­cle.

• Shake out washing before placing into the washing machine.

• Do not place folded washing into the drum.

• Observe such washing instructions as “wash separately” and “wash

separately several times”!

Washing Types and Care Symbols

The care symbols help you choose the correct wash programme. Wash­ing should be sorted according to type and care symbol. The tempera­tures indicated in the care symbols are all maximum temperatures.

Cottons ç

Fabrics made from cotton and linen with this care symbol will with­stand maximum wash actions and high temperatures. The t }
(COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-CARES) programme is suitable for this type of
washing.

Linen èë

Fabrics made from cotton and linen which carry this care symbol will
withstand maximum wash actions. The t } (COTTONS/LINEN,
EASY-CARES) programme is suitable for this type of washing.

Easy-care washing êí

Fabrics such as treated cotton, cotton mixed fabrics and synthetics
which carry this care symbol need a gentler wash action. The t }

Woollens, silk and particularly delicate wash items 9ìï

Fabrics such as wool, wool mixtures and silk which carry these care
symbols require a very gentle wash cycle. The s (WOOL)/P (Hand
wash) and Ñ (SILK)/P (Hand wash) programmes are suitable for this
type of fabric.
Important! Fabrics which bear the care symbol ñ (Do not wash!)
may not be machine washed!

Detergents and care agents

Which detergent and care agent?

Use only detergents and care agents which are suitable for use in wash­ing machines. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

How much detergent and care agent?

The required quantity depends upon:

• extent of soiling of the washing

• on the hardness class of the mains water

• the amount of washing

If the detergent manufacturer does not give any metering quantities

for small loads, add a third less for half a load or only half the amount
of detergent for small loads for < (EASY IRON) which is recommen­ded for a full load.
Observe the instructions for use and dosing provided by the detergent
and conditioner manufacturer.

Water softener

For medium to high water hardness (hardness class II upwards), you
should use softener. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions. Then al­ways add the appropriate amount of detergent for hardness class I
(= soft). The responisable water works will provide information on the
local water hardness.

Since the water softener is rinsed in before the main detergent (water

pre-softening), 80% of the stated quantity of softener shown on the
package is sufficient.

Running a Wash Cycle

Brief Instructions

A wash cycle consists of the following steps:

0 1. Set the correct wash programme:

– select the programme and temperature using the programme selector
– if required, select programme option

2. If required change the spin speed/select o (RINSE HOLD).

3. If required, set the b (DELAY TIMER).

4. Open the door and load the washing.

5. Close the door.

6. Add detergent/conditioner.

7. Start the wash programme by pressing the O/s (START/PAUSE)

button.

When the wash programme has ended:
Important! If the wash cycle has ended with a rinse hold, activate

v (DRAIN), K (SPIN) or L (SHORT SPIN) before opening the door.

8. Open the door and remove the washing.

9. Switch off the washing machine: set the programme selector to

I (OFF).

Setting the delay timer/soaking time

Delay timer

The b (DELAY TIMER) button makes it possible to delay the start of a
wash programme by 1 to a maximum of 19 hours.

0 1. Select wash programme.

2. Press b (DELAY TIMER) button.

3. Press O/s (START/PAUSE) button.

With a delay in the start, the b (DELAY TIMER)
display lights up.
Depress the b (DELAY TIMER) button until the desired start delay ap-
pears, e. g. in the form of 12h for a delay of the programme start of
12 hours. If19h is displayed and the button is pressed again, then the
delay timer is annulled. There will appear the duration of the set wash
programme (display in minutes, e. g.120).
The set delay timer can also be annulled in that the programme knob is
set to the I (OFF) position.

Soaking duration

With depressed k (PRE WASH) button, by pressing the b (DELAY
TIMER) button, the duration of soaking can be extended by 1 to a max­imum of 19 hours.

0 1. Press the k (PRE WASH) button.

2. Press b (DELAY TIMER) button.
Soaking is set, the X (DURATION) display lights up.
The soaking time is now ca. 1 hour.

3. By repeated pressing of the b (DELAY TIMER) button, the soaking times

Opening and closing the filling door

The display K/W (DOOR/LIGHT) indicates when the unit is switched on

– green: The door can be opened (not if Programme protection is ac-

tivated, for details see the section "Programmeprotection“)

– off: Door cannot be opened temporarily
– red: Door is open

The washing drum is illuminated when the filling door is open. The illu-

can be opened. Then close the door and press the O/s (START/
PAUSE) button again.

• Changing the delay time or aborting: Press the b (DELAY TIMER)

button until the desired time is displayed; With a display of the
programme duration (display in minutes, e. g. 120) the wash pro­gramme starts immediately.

Sequence of the programme

Programme progress display

Before the start, the programme steps to be carried
out will be displayed by the Programme sequence
display. During the washing cycle, the current
programme step is displayed.

Multi display

The expected remaining wash time (in min­utes) up to the programme end is displayed in
the Multi display.

During the wash cycle, the remaining wash time can lengthen or re-

main static for a short time as the washing programme adapts itself to
the different conditions during washing, (e.g. type of washing or quan­tity, imbalance recognition during spinning, special rinse cycle, etc.).

Changing speed of spinning

During the wash programme, the spin speed can still be changed or
o (RINSE HOLD) can be set. Other settings cannot be changed.

Abort programme

0 For early aborting of the wash programme, turn the programme knob

to I (OFF).

The programme can be interrupted at any time with the O/s (START/

PAUSE) button and can be continued by means of a repeated pressing

of the button.

Wash cycle ended/Remove washing

After the wash programme has been ended, L (END) is displayed on
the programme cycle display.

• If programme < (EASY IRON) has been selected, then a crease

guard programme of ca. 30 minutes is carried out after the pro­gramme end. The multi-display then additionally shows a rest time of
1 minute and the display L (END) lights up. During the crease guard
programme, the door can be opened at any time and the washing can
be removed.

• If o (RINSE HOLD) has been selected, the display next to the O/s

(START/PAUSE) button blinks.

0 1. After a rinse stop, the water must first be pumped out:

– Either press the O/s (START/PAUSE) button (water is pumped out

and the washing is spun according to the position of the programme;
with the o/RINSE HOLD spin speed, the speed of spinning can also
still be changed during spinning),
or

– Turn programme knob to v (PUMP) and press the O/s (START/

PAUSE) button (the water is pumped off without spinning),

or

– Turn programme knob to K (SPIN) or L (SHORT SPIN) and press

O/s (START/PAUSE) button (water is pumped out and the washing
is spun or short spun).

After the end of this programme step, the L (END) display lights up.

2. Open filling door.
As soon as the display next to the K/W (DOOR/LIGHT) lights green, the
door can be opened (not when the programme security is activated. For
this see „Programme security“).

3. Remove washing.

4. Turn programme knob to I (OFF).

5. After washing, pull the washing agent drawer out a little so that it can

dry out. Lean door only against frame do that the washingmachine can
vent out.

If the indicator Å (OVERDOSING) lights up, too much deter-

gent was used in the washing program just ended. Observe the
dosing recommendations of the detergent manufacturer as well as the
filling quantity for the next wash.

Caution! If the washing machine is not used for a long time:
Close the water tap and disconnect the washing machine from the
electricity mains. (Anti-flood system Aqua Control with Aqua Alarm
does not function if the power supply is interrupted.)

Control panel

Important! Do not use any furniture cleaning agents or aggressive
cleaning agents in order to clean panel and control parts.

0 Wipe control panels with a damp cloth. When doing so, use warm wa-

ter.

Detergent Drawer

The detergent drawer should be cleaned from time to time.

0 1. Pull the detergent drawer out as far as it will go.

2. Remove the detergent drawer by pulling sharply.

3. Take the conditioner insert out of the

middle compartment.

4. Clean the conditioner insert under
running water.

5. Clean the compartments with warm
water from the rear side. It is best to
use a flat brush.

6. Push on the conditioner insert as far as it will go so that it is securely in
place.

7. Use a brush to clean the entire
rinsing-in section of the washing
machine, particularly also the noz­zles on the top side of the rinsing­in chamber.

8. Set the detergent drawer into the
guide tracks and push in.

Washing Drum

The washing drum is made of stainless steel. Rusting foreign bodies in
the washing can cause rust deposits on the drum.

Important! Do not clean the stainless steel drum with decalcifying
agents containing acids, scouring agents containing chlorine or iron, or
steel wool. Our Customer Service can provide suitable agents.

0 Remove any rust deposits on the drum using a stainless steel cleaning

agent.

Main door

0 Check on a regular basis to see if deposits or foreign objects are present

in or at the rubber sleeve behind the door, and remove.

Cleaning the drain pump

Paper clips, nails and so on can sometimes get into the washing ma­chine with the washing and remain in the drain pump casing. Fluff and
strands of fabric can gather on these items and block the drain pump.
Therefore the drain pump should be cleaned at least once a year.

Warning! Switch off the washing machine and pull out the mains plug

before cleaning the drain pump!

0 1. First carry out emergency emptying (see section "Carrying out emer-

gency emptying").

2. Place a towel on the floor in front of the cover of the drain pump. Re­sidual water can run out.

3. Unscrew the drain pump cover anti­clockwise and pull it out.

4. Remove any foreign bodies from the
pump housing.

5. Replace the cover. Insert the webs on
the cover laterally into the guide slots
and screw on the cover securely clock­wise.

6. Close the emergency emptying hose and
place it in the holder.

In the event of a fault, try to solve the problem yourself with the aid of
the information provided here. If you use the Customer Service for one
of the faults listed here or to remedy an operating error, the Customer
Service technician's visit will not be free of charge, even during the
warranty period.

If the washing results are not satisfactory

If the washing has turned grey and if limescale is deposited in the
drum, then

• Too little detergent was used.

• The wrong detergent was used.

• Special soiling was not pre-treated.

• Program or temperature not set correctly.

• If multi-component detergents are used, the individual components

were not used in the correct ratio.

If there are still grey spots on the washing,

• Washing soiled with ointments, grease or oils was washed with too

little detergent.

• Too lower temperature was used for washing.

• A frequent cause is that softener - particularly that in concentrated

form - has reached the washing. Wash out such spots quickly and use
the softener concerned carefully.

If at the end of the last rinse foam is still visible

• Modern detergents can also cause foam in the last rinse. However,

the washing is still sufficiently rinsed.

If there are white remnants on the washing

• These are insoluble components of modern detergents. They are not

the result of an insufficient rinsing effect.
Shake or brush out the washing. In future, perhaps you should turn
the washing inside out before washing it. Examine your choice of de­tergent and if necessary use liquid detergent.

Operating Instructions

Carrying out emergency drainage

• If the washing machine no longer pumps off the washing solution,

emergency drainage must be performed.

• If the washing machine is in a room where there is a risk of frost,

emergency drainage must be performed if there is a possibility of
frost.
In addition: unscrew the inlet hose form the water tap and place it on
the floor. Empty the drainage hose.

Warning! Switch off the washing machine before performing emer-

gency drainage and pull out the mains plug.
Caution! The washing solution escaping from the emergency drainage

hose may be hot. There is a risk of scalding! Allow the washing solution
to cool down before performing emergency drainage.

0 1. Place a flat collecting vessel in order to collect the washing solution

which is draining off.

2. Fold open the flap in the right section
of the base outwards and pull it off.

3. Remove the emergency drainage hose
from its holder.

4. Place the container under the hose.

5. Detach the plug of the emergency

drainage hose by turning it anticlock­wise and pull it out.

The washing solution runs out. Depend­ing on the amount of solution, it may
be necessary to empty the collecting
vessel several times. To do this, close the
emergency drainage hose temporarily
with the plug.

However, for persons who suffer from allergies to detergents, it can be
helpful to rinse with extra water.

If this function is set, an additional rinse cycle is carried out for the

Water Cooling

It may be necessary to cool down the water before pumping it out in
order to prevent thermal damage to the plastic drainage pipes.

The water is cooled down before pumping out at the end of the main

wash cycle (by adding cold water). This setting only works on the
t} (COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-CARES) programme when the temper­ature is above 40 °C.
When the appliance is supplied water cooling is not set except for the

Variomatic Loose Spin

A spin function that can be set as an integrated part of the final spin.
The washing clings less to the drum wall and can be removed more eas­ily. May be selected with t } (COTTONS/LINEN, EASY-CARE).

Setting loose spin:

0 1. Turn the programme selector to L (SHORT SPIN).

2. Press the ä (STAIN) button for at least 5 seconds.
After the button has been kept pressed for 5 seconds, L (END) flashes
on the programme progress display for 5 seconds.

3. Release the ä (STAIN) button while L (END) is flashing. Once it has
stopped flashing, the loose spin function has been set. It will remain set
until it is cancelled again.

4. If you wish to check whether the loose spin function is set:

– Turn the programme selector to L (SHORT SPIN).
– Press the ä (STAIN) button briefly.

If L (END) flashes in the programme progress display, the loose spin
function has been set.

Cancelling loose spin:

0 1. Turn the programme selector to L (SHORT SPIN).

2. Press the ä (STAIN) button for at least 5 seconds.

L (END) flashes in the programme progress display as soon as the but­ton is pressed. After 5 seconds L (END) will stop flashing and remain
constantly illuminated for 5 seconds.

3. While L (END) is constantly illuminated, release the ä (STAIN) button.
Once L (END) is no longer illuminated, the loose spin function has
been cancelled.

Programme Protection

To safeguard a programme setting against unwanted changes (e. g.
programme selector turned, option buttons pressed etc.), you can set
the programme protection. This prevents your washing being damaged.

It is possible to set or cancel the programme protection at any time

during a programme.

Selecting programme protection:

0 1. Select the desired wash programme settings.

2. Press the O/s (START/PAUSE) button to start the programme.

3. Press and hold down the k (PRE WASH) and e

simultaneously for 5 seconds. The programme progress indicator will
flash for 5 seconds; programme protection has been set.

As long as the programme protection is set, you cannot make any other

settings. The door cannot be opened using the K/W (DOOR/LIGHT)
button. Even after the wash cycle has finished you will need to cancel
the programme protection before you can open the door.

If an attempt is made to change the selected settings during the wash
cycle by activating a button, the programme progress display will flash
for 5 seconds.

If you attempt to change the selected setting by turning the pro­gramme selector, the programme progress display will flash until the
original setting of the programme selector is restored. The wash cycle is
not influenced in either case.

(SENSITIVE) buttons

The programme selector must be in its original position in order to can-

cel the programme protection.

Cancelling programme protection:

0 Press and hold down the k (PRE WASH) and e (SENSITIVE) buttons

simultaneously for 5 seconds. The programme progress indicator flashes

Installation Safety Precautions

• Do not tilt the washing machine onto its front or onto its right side

(viewed from the front). Electronic components can get wet.

• Check the washing machine for transport damages. A damaged unit

must never be put into operation under any circumstances. In the
event of damage, please contact your supplier.

• Ensure that all parts of the transport safeguard are removed and that

the unit is splash protected, see "Removing transport safeguard".
Otherwise, the units or neighbouring furniture can be damaged when
spinning.

• Always insert the plug into a correctly installed earthed socket.

• In the case of permanent connection: A permanent connection may

only be made by an authorised specialist.

• Before putting the machine into operation, ensure that the mains

voltage and current type shown on the unit's rating plate correspond
with those at the place where the machine is being installed. The fuse
rating is also found on the rating plate.

• Should work be carried out on the water supply installations in order

to allow the machine to be connected properly to the water supply,
this work must be carried out by an authorised installer.

• Should work be carried out on the mains supply in order to allow the

machine to be connected properly to the electricity supply, this work
must be carried out by an authorised electrician.

• The mains lead may only be replaced by the customer service or by an

authorised electrician.

Installation of the appliance

Washing machines with curved panels are not suitable for installing

under units.

Transporting the appliance

• Do not place the washing machine on its front or on its right side

(viewed from the front). Otherwise, electrical components can get
wet.

• Never transport the unit without the transport safeguard. Do not re-

move the transport safeguard until the appliance is at the installation
location. Transporting the unit without the transport safeguard can
damage it.

• Lift the appliance neither by an open filling door nor by the base.

When transporting the unit with a sack trolley:

• Attach the sack trolley only at the side. The sack trolley shovel must

not be longer than 24 cm, otherwise the float switch can be de­stroyed.

Remove transport packaging

Important! It is essential to re-

move the transport packaging be­fore putting the appliance into
operation. Keep all parts of the
transport packaging in a safe
place for future use.

Prepare the installation place

• The installation surface must be clean and dry, free of floor polish

residues and other greasy coatings so that the unit does not slip
away. Do not use lubricants as a sliding aid.

• Installation on a high-veil carpet or floor tiles with soft sponge backs

is not recommended because the standing safety of the appliance is
then no longer ensured.

• By installation surfaces with small-format tiles, lay a conventional

rubber mat underneath.

• Minor unevenness of the floor surface should never be levelled out by

laying pieces of wood, card or similar materials, but rather should al­ways be compensated for by adjusting the screw feet.

• If, for space reasons, it is not possible to avoid setting up the unit di-

rectly next to a gas or coal-fired cooker: install a thermal insulation
panel between the cooker and washing machine (85 x 57cm) which
must have an aluminium film on the side against the cooker.

• The washing machine must not be set up in a room where there is a

danger of frost. Frost hazard!

• Flexible feed and drain tubings may not be crinkled or squeezed.

Installation on a concrete base

If the unit is set up on a concrete base,
for safety reasons it is essential to fit
stand plates in which the washing ma­chine is adjusted. The stand plates are
available from Customer Service under
the spare parts number 645 425 058.

Installation on vibrating floors

Where the floor vibrates, particularly in the case of wooden beam
floors with pliable boards, securely screw a water-resistant wooden
panel at least 15mm thick onto at least 2 floor planks. If possible, set up
the unit in the corner of a room, as the wooden floor is optimally re­strained there and is therefore least likely to be subject to resonance vi­brations.

Compensate for floor unevenness

Automatic adjustment foot: The rear left foot of your washing ma-

chine is designed as a spring leg. This means that it guarantees that
your unit will stand securely even at high spin speeds.

If, nevertheless, the washing machine is unstable during spinning,
please proceed as follows:

0 1. Set the three adjusted feet at the

nominal value of 10 mm. To do
this, use the supplied special
spanner to remove the transport
safeguard.

If the automatically adjusting
foot does not reach the floor:

with a spirit level.

Caution! Never use wood, card or

Electrical connection

Details of the mains voltage, current
type and required fuses can be
found on the rating plate. The ra­ting plate is located at the top
above the filling door.

For permanent electrical connection
within the electrical circuit, provi­sions must be made which allow for electrical disconnection of the ap­pliance from the mains with a contact opening of at least 3 mm at all
poles. Suitable devices include circuit breakers, fuses (threaded fuses
must be entirely removed from the socket), ground fault circuit inter­rupters and contactors. Permanent connection may only be carried out
by an authorised electrician.

This appliance complies with the following EC directives:

– The "Low Voltage Directive" 72/23/EU with changes
– The "EMC Directive" 89/336/EU with changes

Water connection

The washing machine has safety features which prevent back-contami-

nation of the drinking water and which conform to the national regu­lations of the water authorities (e.g. for Germany: DVGW guidelines).
This means that additional protective measures in the installation are
not necessary.

Important!

– Units for connecting to cold water must not be connected to hot wa-

ter.

– Use only new hose sets for the connection.

Permissible water pressure

The water pressure must be at least 1 bar (= 10 N/cm2 = 0.1 Mpa), max­imum 10 bar = 100 N/cm

• If more than 10 bar: Connect a pressure-reduction valve upstream.

• If less than 1 bar: Unscrew the inlet hose on the unit side at the sole-

noid intake valve and remove the flow regulator (to do this, remove
the filter with pointed pliers and take out the rubber washer behind).
Replace the filter.

Water inflow

A pressure hose 1.5m in length is supplied.
If a longer inflow hose is required, only a VDE-approved, complete set
of hoses with fitted hose screw connections offered by our Customer
Service is permissible.
– Hose sets in lengths of 2.2m, 3.5m and 5m are available for washing

machines without Aqua-Control.

– Hose sets in lengths of 2.0 m, 2.9m and 3.9m are available for wash-

ing machines with Aqua-Control.

Caution! Never cut into pieces in order to extend the hoses!

Sealing rings are supplied either in the plastic

nuts of the hose screw connection or in the enc­losed pack. Do not use other seals!

0 1. Connect the hose with the angled connection to

the machine.

Caution!

– Do not lay the infeed hose ver-

tically downwards. Instead, turn
it to the right or left as shown
in the diagram.

– Tighten the hose connection

only by hand.

2. Connect the hose with the straight connection
to a water tap with a R 3/4 (inch) screw thread.
Caution! Only tighten the screw connection ma­nually.

3. By slowly opening the water tap before putting
the washing machine into operation, check that
the connection is free of leaks.

Water drain

The drainage hose can either be connected to a siphon or hung in a
wash basin or discharge basin or a bath tub.

Only original hoses may be used for extensions (max. 3m laid on the
floor and then up to 80cm high). Customer Service stocks drainage
hoses in lengths of 2.7 and 4m.

Important! It is essential to lay the drainage hose without kinks.

The grommet on the hose end fits all
standard siphon types.

0 Secure the connection between the

grommet and siphon with a hose clamp.

Important!

– Small basins are not suitable for

drainage. Water could overflow!

– The end of the drainage hose must not

be submerged in the pumped-out wa­ter. Otherwise, the water could be
sucked back into the unit.

– When hanging in a wash basin or a

bath tub, the drainage hose must be
secured with the supplied attachable
bend to prevent it slipping. The back­surge force of the escaping water
could otherwise force the hose out of
the basin.

0 Tie the bend to the tap or the wall using

a piece of string.

Delivery heads over 1m

To pump off the washing / rinsing solution, every washing machine has
a drain pump which carries liquids up to a height of 1m via the drain­age hose, calculated from the machine's standing surface.

remedy yourself. Look there first if a fault occurs. If you do not find any
information there, please consult your Customer Service. (You can find
the addresses and telephone numbers in the section "Customer Service
Centres“.)

Always prepare in advance for the discussion. By doing so you will sim­plify the diagnosis and the decision on whether customer service is
necessary.

When do you incur costs even during the warranty period?

– If you could have remedied the fault yourself with the aid of the fault

table (see the section "What to do if..."),

– If several journeys by the customer service technician are necessary

because for example he did not receive all the important information
before his visit and must collect spare parts. These multiple trips can
be avoided if you prepare your phone call as described above.
