Operation
Push-Pull control knobs
The appliance is provided with pushpull control knobs (see picture). These knobs can be completely sunken inside the control panel when the oven/hob is not working.
Ceramic hob cooking zones
To switch on a cooking zone, turn the relevant control knob clockwise to the required heat setting. The control knob is numbered 0 - 9. 0 - OFF 9 - Maximum. The hob has two types of cooking zones:
3 normal cooking zones (back left,3 normal cooking zones (back left,

- To switch on the smaller circular
cooking zone, turn the relevant con-
trol knob clockwise to the required
heat setting.
- To switch on both heating elements,
turn the control knob clockwise to
maximum heat setting (9) then turn the
knob further to nearly reach the "0"
symbol. You will hear a "click" and the
wider cooking zone will switch on.
Then turn back the knob to position 9
and adjust it to the required heat
setting.
Please be aware that the two heating elements will now operate together, giving a higher power output than a normal cooking zone.

Residual heat indicators
The hob is fitted with four residual heat indicators corresponding to each cooking zone. The corresponding indicator will remain on until the temperature falls below 30°C, even after the cooking zone is switched off.
When a cooking zone is switched on, a short buzzing may be heard. This is quite normal and does not affect the hob operation in any way.
Mains on light
The mains on light will come on when the oven function control knob and/or the cooking zone control knobs are set.
Using the ceramic glass hob
Ceramic glass surface
The glass is hard, and has been tempered to withstand heat, cold and temperature shocks. But like all glass it is sensitive to impact. Do not stand on the ceramic glass surface.

Keep all objects and materials which can melt away from the cooking surface, e.g. plastics, aluminium foil.
Care should be taken when preparing food or drinks containing sugar. If anything of this nature accidentally comes into contact with the ceramic surface it must be scraped off immediately while still hot and wiped away to avoid damage to the surface.
Energy consumption
To save energy, you should:
- use only cooking and frying utensils
with smooth, flat bases.
- place pots and pans in position
before switching on the cooking
zone.
- wherever possible, cover pots and
pans with a lid.
- switch off the cooking zone a few
minutes before the end of the
cooking time, in order to make use of
the residual heat.
- use the residual heat of the cooking
zones for keeping food warm or for
melting.
- position pots and pans centrally on
the cooking zones.
Saucepans and frying pans
Saucepans and frying pans should not be smaller than the cooking zone, and preferably not more than 10-15 mm larger than the diameter of the cooking zone.
Always use cooking and frying utensils with smooth, flat bases.
The bases should always be clean and dry. Cook with a lid in place.
Check that the bases of utensils are smooth and undamaged; bases with burrs and sharp edges will scratch the ceramic glass surface.
To avoid scratching or damaging the ceramic cooking surface, pots and pans should be moved on the plate by lifting them, and not by sliding.
Utensils with aluminium and copper bases can leave behind metallic discolourations which can only be removed with difficulty or sometimes not at all.

on the oven base and do not cover any part of the oven with aluminium foil while cooking, as this could cause a heat build-up which would affect the baking results and damage the oven enamel. Always place pans, heat-resisting pans and aluminium trays on the shelf which has been inserted in the shelf runners.
Carefully supervise cooking with fat or oil, since these types of foodstuff can result in a fire, if over-heated. For the same reason, be careful when placing or removing food in the oven, not to let any fat or oil fall on the oven base. If this happens, carefully clean the oven to avoid unpleasant smells or smoke.

Condensation and Steam
The oven is supplied with an exclusive system which produces a natural circulation of air and the constant recycling of steam. This system makes it possible to cook in a steamy environment and keep the dishes soft inside and crusty outside. Moreover, the cooking time and energy consumption are reduced to a minimum. During cooking steam may be produced which can be released when opening the oven door. This is absolutely normal.

up of steam or heat to release.up of steam or heat to release. When food is heated, it pro-
duces steam in the same way as a boiling kettle does. When steam comes in contact of the oven door glass, it will condense and produce water droplets. To reduce condensation, ensure the oven is well heated before placing food in the oven cavity. A short oven pre-heating (about 10 minutes) will then be
necessary before any cooking. We recommend you to wipe away condensation after each use of the appliance.
Hints and Tips for using the oven
electrolux 53
Traditional cooking
As heat originates from top and bottom, dishes should preferably be placed in the middle. If cooking requires more heat from the bottom or the top, use the upper or lower level.
Fan cooking
Heat is produced by a circular heating element placed at the back of the oven and transmitted to dishes by hot air forcibly circulated by a fan. By this method, heat is quickly and evenly circulated throughout the oven, permitting several different dishes to be cooked at the same time on different levels.
With this cooking method, through the elimination of humidity in the air and a drier environment, smells and tastes are not given off and do not mix with those of other dishes. You can also cook on only one level. In this case, it is advisable to place the dish on the lower level for better cooking control. This oven is particularly suitable for defreezing rapidly, sterilizing preserves, homemade jams and, finally, for drying mushrooms and fruit.

For the cooking of cakes
Pre-heat the oven, unless indicated differently, for at least 10 minutes before use. Do not open the oven door when cooking dishes which must raise (e.g. raised pastries and soufflés); the jet of cold air would block the raising process. To check if cakes are cooked, insert a toothpick into the mixture; if it comes out clean the cake is ready. Wait until at least 3/4 of the cooking time has passed before doing this check.
As a general rule remember that:
a dish which is well-cooked on the outside but not sufficiently cooked inside would have required a lower temperature and longer cooking time. On the contrary, a “dry” texture would have required a shorter time and higher cooking temperature.
For the cooking of meat
Meat to be cooked in the oven should weigh at least 1 kilo to avoid its becoming too dry. If you want roasts with a good colour, use very little oil. If the piece is lean, use oil or butter or a little of both. Butter or oil are on the other hand unnecessary if the piece has a strip of fat. If the piece has a strip of fat on one side only, put it in the oven with this side upwards; when melting the fat will grease the lower side sufficiently.
Red meat should be removed from the fridge one hour before cooking otherwise the sudden change of temperature could cause it to become tough. A roast, especially if of red meat, must not be salted at the beginning of cooking as
54 electrolux
salt causes juices and blood to seep out of the meat, thus preventing the formation of a well-browned crust.
It is advisable to salt the outside of the
meat after just over half the cooking time.
Place the roast in the oven in a dish
having a low rim; a deep dish shields heat.
Meat can be placed on an ovenproof dish or directly on the grill, under which the dripping pan will be inserted to collect juice. Ingredients for gravy should only be put in the dish immediately if cooking time is brief, otherwise they should be added during the last half hour.
Begin cooking rare meat at a high temperature, reducing the temperature to finish cooking the inside.
The cooking temperature for white meat can be moderate throughout.
The degree of cooking can be checked by pressing the meat with a fork; if it does not give the meat is cooked.
At the end of cooking it is advisable to wait at least 15 minutes before cutting the meat in order that the juices are not lost.
Before serving plates can be kept warm in the oven at minimum temperature.
Grilling
The following types of meat are suitable for grilling. Mostly meat or offal cut in slices or pieces of various sizes, but not usually very thick, poultry cut in half and flattened, fish, some vegetables (e.g. courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, etc.), skewers of meat or fish and seafood.
Meat and fish to be grilled should be lightly brushed with oil and always placed on the grill; meat should be salted upon completion of cooking; whereas fish should be salted on the inside before cooking. The grill should be positioned in the guides nearest or furthest from the grill element according to the thickness of the meat, in order to avoid burning the surface and cooking the inside insufficiently. The

formation of smoke caused by drops of juice and fat can be avoided by pouring 1 or 2 glasses of water into the dripping pan. The grill can also be used to brown, toast bread and grill certain types of fruit, such as bananas, halved grapefruit, slices of pineapple, apples, etc. Fruit should not be placed too near the source of heat.
Cooking times
Cooking times can vary according to the type of food, its consistency and its volume. It is advisable to watch when cooking for the first time and check results since when preparing the same dishes, in the same conditions, similar results are obtained. The “table of cooking times” relating to cooking in the oven and by grill is provided as a guide. Experience will show possible variations to the values set out in the table.
Nevertheless carefully follow the indications given in the receipe you intend to follow.
Attention: do not place any utensils
such as dripping pan, cake tins, casseroles, pyrex dishes, aluminium foil or other on the base of the oven when the oven is in use. A stagnation of heat would result which would compromise the results of cooking and could damage the oven enamel.
To open the oven door, always hold the handle in the centre.

electricity supply. Never use steam or high pressure steam cleaners to clean the appliance.
Before cleaning, make sure the hob is cool.
Never use aggressive or abrasive agents, such as oven sprays, stain or rust removers, scouring powders, or sponges with an abrasive effect.
Special cleaning agents such as Hob Brite and ceramic hob scrapers are available from your local Service Force Centre.
Cleaning after each use
Slight, non-burnt soilage can be wiped off with a damp cloth. Burnt soilage has to be removed with a scraper. Afterwards wipe off the ceramic hob with a damp cloth, and Hob Brite.
Special problems
Stain removal
Light metallic stains (aluminium residues) can be removed from the cooking zone with a ceramic hob cleaning agent such as Hob Brite when cool.
Sugar solutions, food stuffs with a high sugar content must be removed immediately with a scraper. If this type of soilage is not removed immediately it can cause irreparable damage to the ceramic surface. When the surface has cooled wipe over with a damp cloth and Hob Brite.
Before using any detergent or cleaning agent on the ceramic top, ensure they are recommended by the manufacturer for use on ceramic hobs.
Do not apply any cleaning agents to hot cooking zones. Ensure any residues are wiped off before the cooking zones are used again.

Cleaning the Oven
The oven should be kept clean at all times. A build-up of fats or other foodstuffs could result in a fire, especially in the grill pan.
Cleaning materials
Before using any cleaning materials on your oven, check that they are suitable and that their use is recommended by the manufacturer.
Cleaners that contain bleach should NOT be used as they may dull the surface finishes. Harsh abrasives should also be avoided.
Never use steam or steam machines
to clean the appliance.
External cleaning
Regularly wipe over the control panel, oven door and door seal using a soft cloth well wrung out in warm water to which a little washing up liquid has been added.
To prevent damaging or weakening the door glass panels avoid the use of the following:
• Household detergent and bleaches
• Impregnated pads unsuitable for non-stick saucepans
• Brillo/Ajax pads or steel wool pads
• Chemical oven pads or aerosols
• Rust removers
Bath/Sink stain removers
Clean the outer and inner door glass using warm soapy water. Should the inner door glass become heavily soiled it is recommended that a cleaning product such as Hob Brite, or Bar Keepers Friend is used.

Electrical Connections
Prior to making the electric al connection, make sure that:
- The protection fuse and the
domestic wire system are suitable to
carry the total electric load of the
oven (see rating plate).
- Your domestic wiring system has an
efficient earth connection in
compliance with the rules and laws in
force.
- The wall socket or the omnipole
switch used for the electrical
connection can easily be reached
after the oven is built in.
The appliance is delivered without an electric supply cable, therefore, you will have to fit to it a supply cable with standard plug, suitable for the total electric load shown on the rating plate.
The plug is to be inserted into a suitable wall socket.
If you require a direct connection to the electric network (mains), it will be necessary to fit between the appliance and the mains an omnipole switch, aith a minimum gap between contacts of 3 mm. suitable for the required load and in compliance with rules in force. The green 1 yellow ground wire must not be interrupted by the switch.
The supply cable must in all cases be laid out in such a way as to ensure that it does not reach at any given point a temperature 50°C higher than the ambient temperature.
The manufacturer disclaims any liability in case these accidentpreventing rules are not observed.
Suitable power supply cables are the following types, considering the respective necessary section of cable.

Declaration of guarantee terms
Declaration of guarantee termsDeclaration of guarantee terms
Our appliances are produced with the greatest of care. However, a defect may still occur. Our consumer services department will repair this upon request, either during or after the guarantee period. The service life of the appliance will not, however, be reduced as a result.
This declaration of guarantee terms is based on European Union Directive 99/44/EC and the provisions of the Civil Code. The statutory rights that the consumer has under this legislation are not affected by this declaration of guarantee terms.
This declaration does not affect the vendor’s statutory warranty to the end user. The appliance is guaranteed within the context of and in adherence with the following terms:
1. In accordance with provisions laid down in paragraphs 2 to 15, we will remedy
free of charge any defect that occurs within 24 months from the date the appliance is delivered to the first end user. These guarantee terms do not apply in the event of use for professional or equivalent purposes.
2. Performing the guarantee means that the appliance is returned to the condi-
tion it was in before the defect occurred. Defective parts are replaced or repaired. Parts replaced free of charge become our property.
3. So as to avoid more severe damage, the defect must be brought to our atten-
tion immediately.
4. Applying the guarantee is subject to the consumer providing proof of purchase
showing the purchase and/or delivery date.
5. The guarantee will not apply if damage caused to delicate parts, such as glass
(vitreous ceramic), synthetic materials and rubber, is the result of inappropriate use.
6. The guarantee cannot be called on for minor faults that do not affect the value
or the overall reliability of the appliance.
7. The statutory warranty does not apply when defects are caused by:
a chemical or electrochemical reaction caused by water,
abnormal environmental conditions in general,
unsuitable operating conditions,
contact with harsh substances.
8. The guarantee does not apply to defects due to transport which have occurred
outside of our responsibility. Nor will the guarantee cover those caused by inadequate installation or assembly, lack of maintenance or failure to respect the assembly instructions or directions for use.
9. Defects that result from repairs or measures carried out by people who are not
qualified or expert or defects that result from the addition of non-original accessories or spare parts are not covered by the guarantee.
10. Appliances that are easy to transport may be delivered or sent to the consu-
mer services department. Home repairs are only anticipated for bulky appliances or built-in appliances.
11. If the appliances are built-in, built-under, fixed or suspended in such a way that
electrolux 67
removing and replacing them in the place where they are fitted takes more than half an hour, the costs that result therefrom will be charged for. Connected damage caused by these removal and replacement operations will be the responsibility of the user.
12. If, during the guarantee period, repairing the same defect repeatedly is not con-
clusive, or if the repair costs are considered disproportionate, in agreement with the consumer, the defective appliance may be replaced with another appliance of the same value. In this event, we reserve the right to ask for a financial contribution calculated according to the length of time it has been used.
13. A repair under guarantee does not mean that the normal guarantee period will
be extended nor that a new guarantee period begins.
14. We give a twelve month guarantee for repairs, limited to the same defect.
15. Except in the event where liability is legally imposed, this declaration of
guarantee terms excludes any compensation for damage outside the appliance for which the consumer wishes to assert his rights. In the event of legally admitted liability, compensation will not exceed the purchase price paid for the appliance.
These guarantee terms are only valid for appliances purchased and used in Belgium. For exported appliances, the user must first make sure that they satisfy the technical conditions (e.g.: voltage, frequency, installation instructions, etc.) for the country concerned and that they can withstand the local climatic and environmental conditions. For appliances purchased abroad, the user must first ensure that they meet the qualifications required in Belgium. Non-essential or requested adjustments are not covered by the guarantee and are not possible in all cases.
