1. EXPRESS 6503 OVERVIEW

The Express 6503 is a serial (DCE) to SHDSL data service unit (DSU) designed for small offices and branch offic es to provi de cost -ef fective acce ss to high- spee d SHDSL services. The Expr ess 6503 pre serves the customer's investment in existing business class routers, allowing them to take advantage of New W or ld applic ation s and Pac ket Telephony. It of fer s an e conomical mi gration pa th ut ilizing ATM and Frame Relay over SHDSL without requiring replacement of existing networking equipment.
The Express 6503 provid es small of fi ces and branch of fi ces wit h fast, af for dable , and easy-to-us e acce ss to the Internet and corpora te network. The Express 6503 makes DSL servic es and applications accessible to the office r outer or to the des ktop. It supports a n integrat ed SHDSL WAN interface and a serial interface to the router and can operate at symmetr ic speeds of up to 2312 kbps.
On the Express 6503, the terminal menu is the access point to all other operations. Each terminal menu item has several functions a nd submenus tha t identify and provide access to specific operations and parameters. These menu selections are described later in this User Interface Guide (p ages 18 and following).
See Appendix A. Navigating the Terminal Menus on page 48 for instructions about navigating the terminal men us.
