1. GENERAL
This practice provides installation and maintenance
procedures for the ADTRAN Total Access 1000
DSLAM Local Power ATM Power Supply Unit.
Figure 1 is an illustration of the Total Access 1000
DSLAM ATM PSU.
Revision History
This is the initial release of this document. Future
revisions to this document will be explained in this
subsection.
Features
The Total Access 1000 DSLAM Local Power ATM
PSU, P/N 1179018L1, includes the following features:
• Converts incoming -48 VDC local power to
regulated buss voltages
• Provision free plug and play
• Front Panel status LED
• Meets FCC, NEBS Level 3, and UL 60950
requirements
General Description
The Total Access 1000 DSLAM Local Power ATM
PSU is a common module plug-in unit designed for
use in the ADTRAN Total Access 1000 DSLAM
channel bank. The PSU accepts local power (-42 VDC
minimum -56 VDC maximum) from local power

terminal on the backplane. Through switchmode
operation, the PSU converts the local voltage to four
buss voltages: +5 V, +3.3 V, +2.5 V, and +22 V.
These voltages are distributed on the Total Access
1000 backplane for use by other cards in the system.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference,
and (2) this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause
undesired operation.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by
ADTRAN could void the user’s authority to operate
this equipment.

After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is noted, file a claim with the carrier, then
contact ADTRAN. Refer to Warranty and Customer
Service.
3. MAINTENANCE
The Total Access 1000 DSLAM Local Power ATM
PSU does not require routine maintenance for normal
operation.
Field Repairs
ADTRAN does not recommend that repairs be
attempted in the field. Repair services are obtained by
returning the defective unit to ADTRAN Customer
Service Department.
The Total Access 1000 DSLAM ATM PSU inserts
directly into the common card area in the position
labeled PSU.
To install the PSU, grasp the unit by the front panel
while supporting the bottom side. Align the card
edges to the guide grooves and insert the unit until the
edge connector seats firmly into the backplane. Lock
the card in place by pushing in on the lock levers.
Provisioning Options
The Total Access 1000 DSLAM Local Power ATM
PSU has no options or adjustments. It does not
require provisioning prior to insertion into the channel
bank.
Front Panel LED
The front panel LED will indicate GREEN when
proper local power voltage is present and system
voltages are present. An off LED indicates the loss of
a system voltage.
Compliance Codes
Table 1 shows the Compliance Codes for the Total
Access 1000 DSLAM Local Power ATM PSU. This
product is intended to be installed in a Total Access
1000 Chassis providing a Type “B” or “E” enclosure,
with Restricted Access.

5. WARRANTY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE
ADTRAN will replace or repair this product within
ten (10) years from the date of shipment if it does not
meet its published specifications or fails while in
service. Refer to ADTRAN U.S. and Canada Carrier
Networks Equipment Warranty, Document
