ADCOM PROTECTION PLAN
(USA ONLY)
ADCOM offers the enclosed valuable Limited Warranty. Please read the details on the Warranty Card carefully to
understand the extent of the protection offered by the Warranty, its reasonable limitations, and what you should do in order
to obtain its benefits.
Be sure to verify that the serial number printed on the rear panel matches the serial number on the outer carton. If any
number is altered or missing, or if the ADCOM Waaanty Card is not included in the carton, you should notify us immediately
in order to ensure that you have received a genuine ADCOM product which has not been opened, mishandled, or tampered
with in any way.
UNPACKING
Before your new GCD-700 left our factory, it was carefully inspected for physical imperfections and tested for all electrical
parameters as a routine part of ADCOM's systematic quality control. This, along with full operational and mechanical testing,
should ensure a product flawless in both appearance and performance. After you have unpacked the GCD-700, inspect it for
physical damage. Save the shipping carton and all packing material as they are intended to reduce the possibility of
transportation damage, should your CD player ever need to be shipped again. In the unlikely event damage has occurred, notify
your dealer immediately and request the name of the carrier so a written claim to cover shipping damages can be initiated.
THE RIGHT TO A CLAIM AGAINST A PUBLIC CARRIER CAN BE FORFEITED IF THE CARRIER IS NOT NOTIFIED
PROMPTLY IN WRITING AND IF THE SHIPPING CARTON AND PACKING MATERIALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR
INSPECTION BY THE CARRIER. SAVE ALL PACKING MATERIALS UNTIL THE CLAIM HAS BEEN SETTLED.
INSTALLING THE GCD-700
Although the GCD-700 does not generate much heat, you will ensure its long-term, trouble-free operation if you keep it away
from external sources of heat such as radiators or heat registers and provide reasonable ventilation. The GCD-700 should
never be placed with other heat producing components in a cabinet or enclosure that lacks proper ventilation.
When placing the GCD-700 with other stereo components, do not stack more than thirty pounds of additional equipment on top
of the CD player as damage may occur.
For use in professional installations, the GCD-700 may be mounted in a standard 19-inch rack using the optional RM-4 rack
mount adapters available through you local ADCOM dealer.
NOTE
WHEN PLACING THE GCD-700 ON A SHELF OR IN A RACK ENSURE THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE DRAWER
TO FULLY OPEN. YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST NINE INCHES OF SPACE IN FRONT OF THE CD PLAYER TO
GUARANTEE PROPER CLEARANCE.
REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS
The performance of the GCD-700 depends greatly on the interconnection cables used for the player itself and its associated
equipment. All the output signal connections should be made using only high quality, low-loss audio cables such as the one
supplied with the GCD-700. The Fixed, Variable, and Digital outputs are clearly labeled on the rear panel, as well as their
respective LEFT and RIGHT channels where applicable.
WHENEVER CONNECTIONS TO OR FROM THE GCD-700 ARE BEING MADE, BE SURE THAT THE GCD-700 AND ALL
ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS ARE TURNED OFF.
REAR PANEL DIAGRAM

FIXED OUTPUT ®
The decoded, analog audio signal is available at this output at a level compatible with most preamplifiers, tuner/preamps, and
receivers. Simply connect one end of the supplied audio cable to the FIXED OUTPUT terminal of the GCD-700, left (L) and
right (R), and the other end to the CD, AUX, or TAPE IN/PLAY input terminals, left (L) and right (R) of the preamplifier or
receiver.
VARIABLE OUTPUT ®
The decoded, analog audio signal is also available at this output, however, the level can be adjusted using the VOLUME control
buttons on the RC-700CD remote control, The VARIABLE output will be most useful when using the CD player to drive an
amplifier directly. It can also be used to drive a second system simultaneously in conjunction with the FIXED output.
Furthermore, it is useful when you want the CD playback level to match those of other sources such as a tuner or cassette deck
which may be considerably different. This can be accomplished by monitoring the different sources and making the necessary
volume adjustments using the RC-700CD remote control.
To use the VARIABLE output, connect one end of a high quality RCA audio cable to the VARIABLE output terminal of the CD
player left (L) and right (R), and the other end to the CD, AUX, TAPE IN/PLAY or main input terminals, left (L) and right (R) of
the preamplifier, tuner/preamp, or amplifier.
NOTE
THE VOLUME CONTROL ON THE RC-700CD REMOTE CONTROL WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON THE FIXED OR
DIGITAL OUTPUTS OF THE GCD-700.
The digital output from the CD being played is available at this output. This signal is designed to be used with an external
digital-to-analog converter, digital tape recorder, or other component with the necessary digitai conversion circuits built in that
accept the Sony/Phillips Digital Interface Format (S/PDIF) standard.
REMOTE ®
The DIN jack connection is for use with other ADCOM components such as the GFB-800II Music Control Center. It allows the
GCD-700 to be controlled using the remote control transmitter of the main ADCOM controi center or preamplifier by use of a
special cable. Rease consult you local ADCOM dealer for more information.
AC POWER CORD ®
This polarized AC line cord can be connected to the preamplifier’s or receiver’s auxiliary AC oufiet (switched or unswitched) or
directly into a standard wall outlet provided they suppiy a voitage consistent with the voltage requirements printed on the rear
panel of the GCD-700.
NOTE
The GCD-700’s power cord is supplied with a “poiarized” AC piug as required by UL/CSA standards and the Nationai
Electrical Code, To minimize the risk of electrical shock and to ensure minimal hum from the system, do not defeat
the polarity ensuring feature of the plug (one wide blade and one narrow blade). To prevent electrical shock, do not
use this polarized plug with an extension cord or other outlet unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent blade
exposure.

CARING FOR YOUR GCD-700
Great care has been taken by ADCOM to ensure that your new CD player is as flawless in appearance as it is electronicaily.
The front panel is a heavy gauge, high grade aluminum exhrusion carefully finished and anodized for durability. The chassis, top
cover and rear panel are heavy gauge steel that has been powder coated and baked to ensure a lasting finish. If the front
panel, top or sides become dusty or finger printed, they can be cleaned with a soft lint free cloth, slightly dampened with a very
mild detergent solution or glass cleaner.
WARNING
DO NOT SPRAY OR POUR LIQUIDS OF ANY KIND ON THE SURFACES OF THE GCD-700.
PRECAUTIONS
Be sure to connect the AC power cord only to a correct source of power. The operating voltage and frequency for which the unit
was manufactured is printed on the rear panel of the player.
Do not handle a compact disc, operate the GCD-700, or unplug it from its source of power when your hands are wet.
Do not attempt to open the unit or remove its cover. There are no user serviceable parts inside the player and there is the
potential of shock and radiation hazards within the unit.
Do not place any objects other than compact discs in or on the CD drawer, or permit objects to fall inside the player as damage
may result.
9
Do not move or tilt the player when discs are loaded in the drawer as damage to the player and/or discs may result.
Make sure the player is turned off, and remove the power cord from its AC power source if you plan to leave the system
unattended for long periods of time.
Do not use or store the GCD-700 on or near vibrating surfaces, sources of heat, in extremely cold areas, in areas of high
humidity in dusty or smoky environments, or in poorly ventilated areas as the proper operation of the player may be adversely
affected.
Try to avoid conditions which will cause condensation to form on the optical system of the player which will impair or prevent
proper playback. This includes bringing the player into a warm house when it is cold outside or storage in areas where the
temperature will cycle between the extremes. In the event condensation occurs, wait at least thirty minutes before use.,
If the GCD-700 is operated while listening to an AM or FM broadcast, there may be the unlikely possibility of noise or
interference being radiated into the tuner degrading its reception. If this occurs, please turn off the CD player.
If the CD player or its interconnecting cables are placed near a television or other component, a humming sound may develop.
In the unlikely event this happens, please relocate the player or reroute its cables.
IN CASE OF DIFFICULTY
Player fails to play a loaded disc:
Check that the disc is loaded properly, label side up.
Make sure the disc surface is dean.
Check the disc for scratches or other damage. Try another disc.
Be certain that there is no condensation on the optical elements of the player as would be the case if brought into a warm
house from a cold environment. In the event condensation has occurred, wait at least thirty minutes before use.
If playing a three inch disc, make sure it is seated properly in its depressed, center tray position.
>rogramming cannot be initiated:
Be certain that a disc is loaded in the drawer.
Check that the disc is loaded label side up.
Make sure that the disc surface is dean and not scratched or damaged in any way.
If using the remote control, make sure the transmitter’s signal is not blocked and that it can reach the sensor.
Check that the remote control batteries are not weak.
Make sure the RANDOM function is not in the on position.
Sound level drops suddenly or a clicking noise is heard:
Make sure the disc surface is dean and not scratched or warped. Try another disc.
Double check the surface the player is seated on to ensure vibrations are not reaching the unit and that it sits firmly on the
surface. Try placing the player on a different surface if problems persist.
When making track selections, searching, or if the player is subjected to a strong impact, the disc’s rotational speed
changes greatly and may cause a small noise to be emitted from the player. This is not a malfunction and doe not indicate
a problem.
10
player does not play through the stereo system:
• Make sure the correct output of the player, FIXED, VARIABLE, or DIGITAL is connected to the proper input of the system.
• Be certain the selector switch on the preamplifier or receiver is set to the input which the GCD-700 is connected to.
• If using the VARIABLE output, make sure the level is not at its lowest setting.
Player does not operate when the remote is used:
• Make sure the batteries in the RC-700CD remote control are not dead.
• Be certain that the remote control unit is within operating range of the CD player. This is typically 25 feet or approximately 8
meters in length and the acceptable angle of operation is normally 30 degrees off axis from the sensor window.
